I've made my stance on condom use abundantly clear in this forum. I believe 90% of the difference in sensation occurs in the big head, not the small one. But I would like to direct you toward some more concrete information about this. It was written by Emily Oster, and I think it is called "Whither Africa?" It is a fairly long and technical paper. I think it's higher than that. The lowest transmission rate from a study I've read about for normal couples was 1/10,000, and I think that some were using condoms. That's overall, and admittedly female-to-male would be less than the average.

On the other hand, when you're talking about prostitutes and their customers, like Clandestine says, you've got STD's entering into the picture, which would boost the transmission rate a lot, as indicated by the study of the Thai hookers and the military recruits.

I wonder what percentage of ISG members who actively pursue this hobby and who don't use condoms have untreated bacterial sexually transmitted infections at any given time? Please note that 10-15% of men (and 80% of the women we screw) with gonorrhea have no symptoms. For chlamydia, 50% of men and 75% of women don't have symptoms. There are millions of cases of these diseases in the U.S. annually. And we're a lot more promiscuous than your average American. Then there's herpes. I think about 25% of sexually active women and 15% of sexually active men in the U.S. have the disease. It wouldn't surprise me if 50% of active ISG members have herpes, comparable to the figure in Africa.

So, if a person is going bareback all the time in someplace like Pattaya where there's a lot of HIV among prostitutes, just how much safer is he than the average African? I will admit we are safer -- African prostitutes are maybe 5X or 10X more likely to have the virus versus prostitutes in Pattaya. And we're less likely to have STD's. But again, how much safer? Is it worth playing Russian roulette, even if the gun has, say, a thousand chambers?

BTW, the numbers for unprotected sex with hookers in Africa are worse than the military concripts in northern Thailand -- 0.1 infections per contact in one study.
