Lady boys (LB's) or Katoeys. As for being able to tell if it is really a woman, well there's a few obvious signs, but some of them are very convincing, and you may not be able to tell.
Look out for tall girls with big (false) tits, big hands and feet, Adams apple, deeper voice than the girls etc, but don't rely on it.
Well said "don't rely on it"!
Fake tits, big hands and feet are not uncommon on real Thai ladies, deeper voice too, Adam apple can be surgically removed.
The best way to handle it is just (politely) ask. Unless you are drunk (and then you might not even be conscious of who you brought to bed and what you are going to do with) so that little head take the leads and dreams of those nice lips wrapped around him, by asking you will get in most cases a very honest reply.
It is of course recommended not to pick up the "lady" in well known joints where LB prevails or fill the crew.
Well said "don't rely on it"!
Fake tits, big hands and feet are not uncommon on real Thai ladies, deeper voice too, Adam apple can be surgically removed.
I was on Walking Street the other night and a scantily clad girl asked to go with me. Now I reign supreme at being able to pick out a lady boy from 100 meters away, but this one almost had me fooled. None of the tell tale signs of abnormal voice or constant playing with hair, no apparent breast implants, no big ass feet and manly toes. But what gave it away for me was that she was dressed too provocatively in the street. Even when you go up and down Beach Road you see the working FEMALES dressed quite conservatively. Soon after I declined the invitation 3 lady boys strolled up and this one joined the pack. It was still not apparent, but as we all can attest to, lady boys run in packs. Now granted at times you will see one ladyboy with a group of females. (I have female friends that sometimes have 1 lady boy in their circle.) But you will never see a group of lady boys with one female.

I did this when I arrived a month ago, and the lady at the stand said 1500? When I turned around she went down to 1300 quickly. Are there more than one stand?
What the fuck?
When you fly into BKK, walk down to the ground level and follow the sign out the door to the taxi stand. The official rate for a taxi from BKK to Pattaya is 1050 baht. The girl at the stand will ask you where you are going. When you say Pattaya, she'll write 1050 be on the dispatch sheet and give it to you. No negotiation, no rip-offs, and certainly no tips (this is SE Asia, not the United States). These are licensed, official taxis, and this is absolutely the best way to go. I've done it ten times in the last 2 years.
Have the phone number of your hotel because the taxi drivers speak little no intelligible English, can't read the Latin alphabet, and don't know how to take directions.
I broke the rule
Golden Rule. Do not fall in love!
Great advice given to me by an eighty something gent at a bar in Soi Bukao.
This is not new to anybody that knows these bar girls are going to bang for bucks as soon as U-turn your back.
It's the ones that have been around, speak very good English and seem "normal", that are most dangerous.
My problem is that I have too much access to Thailand. Once I got it into my head that I wanted to live there, I thought about finding a regular that can help me assimilate into the place. I met a woman that speaks great English, lived in the states for years, even has a green card.
I started taking care of her. When I met her she was shy, and didn't know anyone in town at all.
Make a long story short, I dumped her after two years for lies and just really being f*cking stupid.
She now works in a bar and is basically on the road to being a straight up wh*re. She easily with a little effort could have gone the other route of learning a regular job and time to be with her kid with just a litte help from me.
No, she chose the route of loud, smokey bars and dealing with drunks and maybe losing some hearing from the loud music.
They really can't help but be sucked up into the life that's going on around them for the extra baht to be made in a bar.

DON'T FALL IN LOVE
Most of these girls are uneducated and lazy. The easy way out is the way most will take. Also, the value systems in Isaan does not really gel with ours. Falling in love with a working girl is really not in your best interest. Enjoy the entertainment.
Rates. LT The birds from the Gogol will probably want 2000 baht, while the birds from the beer bars will only really want a 1000 baht.ST the Go Go birds will want 1000 baht, and the beer bar girls will want 500 baht.
Excellent report and very comprehensive. The only contribution I would like to make is regarding the price. Go-go rates are more like ST = 2, 000 baht and LT = 4, 000. The beer bars are definitely cheaper, the BF is around 300 baht, ST between 500 and 1, 000 and LT between 1, 500 and 2, 000. That aside a very good guide for the first time visitor to Pattaya.
Final addition is concerning the chemical stimulus. I have used one of the newest ones on the market called "Cappra". It is a herbal based drug (legal) , can be found in pharmacy's and now in 7/11, 4 capsules for around 1, 100 baht. The benefits are that it lasts for about 12 hours, helps you perform after a good few beers, but only gives a hard-on via direct stimulation. Unlike Viagra you can avoid the ignominy of walking round with a trouser truncheon, I highly recommend it.
Regards.

As I said in the second sentence, that is easy to avoid because you see it coming.
The point of the story is she BECAME all that, despite her exposure to the first world.
But your right, laziness and fast buck attitude is inherent to the culture.
.But your right, laziness and fast buck attitude is inherent to the culture.
One of the things we like about Asian girls (and also Brazilian and Central American, I would add) is their easy approach to sex.
Having sex with strangers, not holding long relationships, is what makes them appealing to us, apart the overall cheap costs when you come to the monetary settlements (especially compared to the first world rates, back home).
I am not saying any Asian girl can be taken to bed with a wink, but I don't think either all girls get into the p4p system as they are money desperate.
They combine the economic advantage if earning money with something they are keen to do, don't have a problem to do and even enjoy to do: sex.
We then can't complain too much if they are unreliable on long term relationships, if they keep in working even when supported monthly from somebody abroad, if they prefer their own "home" environment rather than moving to the first world and spend the rest of their life with the stranger, often having little to share (apart the comfort of a much different life) , away from friends and relatives, in a different climate.
Certainly it looks strange to our eyes, that is for sure.

More Bullshit
Don't forget. Just as you can open the room safe so can everyone else.
A room safe is an incentive for those with intentions to do harm. I always pick a hotel with safety boxes in reception. I just use a room safe for small change.
If you stay in a crap hotel where the manager has given the 'open sesame' security key to all the staff then this may be true. But in decades of travelling I have never had a
Problem with room safes; the reputation of the hotel is at stake if the security is breached.
Once I used front desk security, lost the key to my personal safe box and the lad on the front desk found a duplicate in a drawer in less than 30 seconds.
Thieves are opportunists. I find a combination padlock secured suit case with an electric cable tie the best solution if I stay in dubious hotels.

Wasting a holiday on
I always pick a hotel with safety boxes in reception. I just use a room safe for small change.
I should have added. For FFS do you spend a day driving around a dozen hotels looking for one with front office safe (s).
Time better spent on mongering methinks.

I was at the Greenery room once and I lost my key. She had to call the owner and it took him a half day to show up, drill it out and replace the lock. I suppose you could ask them up front what would happen if you loose the key.

Or maybe on one of the upper levels?
The fare is set by law, so there is no wiggle room. That's precisely why they write the price on the dispatch sheet, which gives you numbers to call if you're asked for extras.
I've literally done this dozens of times, including again last month. Always the same price. Never any hassles or even questions other than "where you go?"

Does anyone know if Grand Sole Pattaya Beach is girl friendly?
