Don't know how well Mexico will do her checking. They need a massive data base similar to CBP with a lot of on-line intelligence to do it well. Of course the pros like terrorists, hitmen and Cash mules etc. Can always buy fake passports to fool the system.

This is shit because I just renewed my new passport I don't need 30 TJ stamps on it if I enter 30 times I don't mind answering questions but why they have to fuck with the US passports.
They built that building for this reason. To do what they are doing not just to say hey look at our new building. Where were they going to do this before? That little room after you cross the gates. Yeah that would have worked. Have you even been in the new building? I guarantee they won't stamp it 30 times if you enter that many times. You are complaining just to complain. Go through the process they report back with your yelp rating. I've been in the new building 3 times since it opened and still haven't received a stamp to my passport. I'm looking at getting a passport card after tequila festival next month since I'll be away from Tijuana fir a couple of months because of the holidays. The week after it opened I went to the otay Mesa border because I also didn't want my passport stamped. No stamping going on there. Shit there was no one even there as I crossed with 3 other people. But there was a shit load of construction going on. That's been going on for about 6 months strong. I mean a shit load. So this new system might be going to otay Mesa shortly.

I'm not a happy camper either. I do have a passport card which they can't stamp.
It's Mexico and anything can happen for no apparent reason.
I think the goal is nothing more than money driven; not securing their border.
If you are a regular here, than you are targeted. I first took the time to get the 7 day free visa, but fuck, I do not want to do that on a weekly basis; time is money. So they steer you to buy the 180 day visa, which is 332 pesos. I bought one because I'm there almost every week.
So if you buy the 180 day visa, they will only stamp your passport once during that time frame.
I'm getting mixed reports from other sites that they are and are not stamping the passports.
Some are raising hell that they need a passport or passport card to enter the country. My take; you should have a passport to enter any country!
Be aware, they are doing spot checks inside the back of the building as well. They put a lot of money and time into this new building and exit walkway, so the policy will not be stopped anytime soon.
Will the local business lose money, yes, but as far as I know, this policy is directed from Mexico City.
Just my 2 lousy pesos.

Guess what, when I tried using my chip USA passport in the Ready lane, the CBP told me that the chip passport did not work. Back to MX crossing passport stamps. They stamped my passport even when I told them that they were not supposed to do so. They said that I am entering their country. I asked if they stamp the Passport card and they do not stop cars and trucks of gang bangers. I got dumb looks and had I asked another question, I bet they would have called over those marinas with guns bigger than them who would have tossed me out. One thing. I can handle one stamp but not any more. If they decide to stamp my passport again, I would rather reverse course and spend my money in the gaslight district in San Diego.

And I can't think of any, except maybe Canada, that don't stamp your passport. They are simply enforcing a law that's been on the books for, at a minimum, several decades. If you fly into Tijuana (or anywhere else in Mexico) you'd better have a passport and they're going to ask where you're going and when you're leaving. Why should walking into the country be any different?
If passport stamps are a major problem, and you can't afford a Passport Card, cross at Otay. It's no big deal, parking is free if you know where to park, and it's only a few pesos more for the taxi. Or drive. An experienced Tijuana expert such as yourself can surely find a way around such a minor inconvenience until they get everything sorted out.
Frankly, I'm amazed that they haven't done this before now. It was always a joke that anybody could get into Mexico, but getting out was difficult.

So I had to pay 332 pesos for the useless fucking thing, thus, I started out on my trip pissed! No one ever asked for the visa. ".
Even though I was staying less than 7 days, they still fucked me!
