The camareras did not knew what happened, they hadn't been so busy serving drinks for a long time. Ad and the owner Carlo, went from customer to customer to have a chat and were visibly pleased with this overwhelming interest. There were many customers (Germans, Canadians, Belgians, Dutch, Americans) of the Black Box present. It was a great start for the new manager of 'La Gran Velero'. Personally I don't care for rap or hip-hop but if that's your flavor enjoy it. I love the latin music and I lived and loved the70's era of music and DeeJayed in the 80's in nightclubs so I'll definitely be stoppin in to check it out Thanks for the update I'll be there in a couple of weeks.

The girls have energy and one of the waitresses is half of the sisters at Latinos.

Deafening loud music and low lighting makes it impossible to have a conversation, but encourages people to get physically very close together and shout into each other's ear, hopefully leading to later intimacy. There may also be dancing. If that is the business model, so be it. On the other hand if you want to attract groups of drinkers who may want to talk to each other, then the deafening music has to go and you may want music that reminds your patrons of their salad days, or tunes that people can sing along to. If you have televisions showing non-stop German soccer, then it is obvious what client base you are going after.

I don't know to what extent local business study the demographics of tourist data. I was in La Sirena in Puerto Plata recently and the cashier asked me if I lived locally. I asked what this was about as she placed some check marks on the form on her clipboard, and she said the cashiers were conducting market research to determine how many "gringos" lived locally and used La Sirena. I hope they are not planning to change the music, as I like the background music they play which is mostly US music.

It is all just business, and of course you can change the model overnight.

I was on the way to meet Gogo at Barra Payan on night about 9:30. But first I had to make sure my Cupid girl was able to get a ride home. From my understanding I would be dropping her were there were taxis or guaguas or something. Well this girl had me driving all across town. You know if there were only a couple of turns then I could have made it back. But once we passed Av Venezuela I was like wait. Maybe you don't understand that I am not from here and I don't know where the hell I am. She kept saying we are really close but we were nowhere near close. More turns and what not. Meanwhile I'm complaining to her about the shitty streets and there being no lane markings. I finally told her look, you will just have to come to Barra Payan with me and I will give you money for a taxi from there.

So we are on the way to Barra Payan and she really doesn't know where it is. I told her to just get me to the president's house and I know from there. We passed Av. Mexico and I remembered 30 Marzo being off Av. Mexico. But maybe she knew something I didn't. The area looked familiar though because Jao had taken me around and I knew that I was close to the US Embassy. I told the girl that I thought it was the embassy but she said no that is a university.

Just then two Fed police came up beside us on a motorcycle. He was telling me to pull over. I was playing stupid just saying yeah okay but kept driving. They came up beside us again and did the same thing. So I finally pulled over. They were saying that I ran a light and asked for my driver's license. I handed it over and he went back to the motorcycle. That is when I separated my money putting it in my underwear, only keeping 500 pesos accessible in case I needed to hand it over to them.

He came back to the car and I was acting as if I did not speak Spanish. So he was trying to go through my girl saying something like the fine is 1000 pesos because of running a light. He told her that I could understand her. So I was talking in broken Spanish saying yeah this is my amante. She told him that we were looking for the sandwich shop because I had to meet a friend. He kept saying ticket ticket. So I said yeah just give me the ticket and I will go to the embajada manana. This happened a couple of times. I guess he was trying to stall out for me to offer him money. So they finally decided to give us a police escort us to Barra Payan. We followed them. It was about 10 minutes away. I called to let Gogo know what the deal was.

When we arrived he came back to the car still talking about a ticket and hoping to get some money. I told him the same thing. Yeah, just give me the ticket and I go to embajada manana. He finally got frustrated and just gave my license back. Then he said they brought us all the way to Barra Payan, still hoping for money. I shrugged my shoulders and they finally left. I got out of the car laughing my ass off and saw Gogo.

Jao has since informed me that the Federal Police can not issue tickets. Only Amvet can do that. You will see them out and about with neon green vests, a hat, and a ticket book.

Well played Mr International. The "dumb gringo" who pretends to not understand or speak any Spanish can come in handy in situations like this.

Play dumb all the way, speak bad spanish, act like you don't understand, etc. Unless you do something stupid (like my last time) and get caught getting a blow job in the car. That cost me a little.

I have been a member of this site for years, but have never posted. All the insight and info on this site served me great in my European trips in the last few years, and I want to thank all of you fellow mongers for your great posts and contributions. I have booked my first trip to Sosua for Mar. 23-29, and I am as Giddy as a schoolboy to finally get to smack some DR Ass. LOL. I need the opinion and insight of you fellow mongers to settle a disagreement I am having with my travel partner about accomodations. He wants to do Sosua Bay Resort or Terralinda, because he wants to be in the middle of the action. I myself am leaning towards Hispaniola Beach condos which are about a mile down Pedro Clisante, because they are gorgeous, right on a Semi-Private Beach and the price for a 2-2. 5 is less than what we would pay for 2 seperate rooms at the afore mentioned hotels.

My questions are.

#1-Is this so far away from the action that we MUST rent a car or scooters?

#2-Is it dangerous to travel so far back to homebase at night on foot or scooters?

#3- Are there enough restaurants and shops on the East end of El Batey to keep us satisfied for a week?

#4- Can anyone recomend a nice oceanfront hotel near the action that won't break the bank?

I want a nice luxury room, and I am willing to be farther from the action to get a more affordable one. My buddy is more FuFu than he realizes, and I know he won't dig a run down musty room or deal with power, internet or water outages.
