San Ysidro border crossing
How many countries have you gone to the DIDN'T ask for a passport? And I can't think of any, except maybe Canada, that don't stamp your passport. They are simply enforcing a law that's been on the books for, at a minimum, several decades. If you fly into Tijuana (or anywhere else in Mexico) you'd better have a passport and they're going to ask where you're going and when you're leaving. Why should walking into the country be any different?
Do not confuse the San Ysidro border crossing with the Tijuana airport. San Ysidro is regarded as a Business crossing and not your everyday airport type crossing and the rules have been relaxed on both the USA and the Mexican side. Looking at the Ready Lane going into USA, just tell me how many of those Mexican grand mas and children really need the quick entry into the USA? But USA allows it. Hence MX was allowing easy entry into MX Tijuana for economic reasons. Not all entries into other countries are the same. There are other border crossings between USA / Canada and USA / Mexico that are considered business crossings.
MX Tijuana international airport
Can you fly international from Tijuana maybe I can save some serious dough when I do?
I flew to Cuba over 10 years ago from Tijuana airport. Great service on the plane, very pretty attendants and drinks all the way to Cancun and then Havana. At that time due to USA embargo, Cuba did not stamp my passport.
