You are absolutley right about that. They can drink it like crazy. Fortunately for me I do not like the taste of it or anything like it. ( I compare it to ouzo or sambuca) but it is much stronger.

Yesterday I had business to attend to so I didn't have a lot of time to monger, but I did manage to gather a bit of information.

I was in the El Cangrego area for lunch and a tout grabbed me and was telling me about the chicas bonitas at the club nearby. I had told the tout I was going to do nothing if the price was too expensive. He said not to worry.

I followed him forever it seemed and we ended up walking into this alley that opened up into a strip mall and a sign that said "River Club". He pushed the doorbell but nobody answered and an old man washing his car on the other side of the parking lot called him over and had me and the tout follow him into the mall.

A door opened and an older blonde with huge boobs led me down a hallway to a tiny room with 4 pretty girls sitting on a couch. I didn't see any other men and the girls seemed bored. It was funny how they all leaned forward from the couch and looked around the corner at me as I walked in. I would have done any of them in a heartbeat in different circumstances. The woman started at $80 but after I said no she quickly dropped the price to $65 then $60. When the tout held out his hand to the lady to get paid I said no and told the tout I was ready to leave. We walked outside and I gave him $2 for his effort.

I went by the Elite II but it was closed. I asked the security guard about the place. He said the business hours were from 8pm to 6am, the cover charge is $18, and the girls are $250. Seems like a lot of money in a city where there's a pretty girl in every direction you look.

Speaking of the locals, everywhere I go the local girls and women smile and come up to me to chat and try to practice their English. It's a little like being a celebrity. I was going to change hotels today but one of the girls I met on the hotel staff said she wanted to hang out after work tonight so I just added another night. I'm letting the little head think for the big one.

I like the Montreal all right, but it seems like it's a cab ride to everywhere. The heat in Panama City is nothing like I've ever experienced, and with the high humidity my clothes are soaked after just a short walk. I saw a bunch of pensionado hotels around the Hotel San Remo in Bella Vista for only $10 a night, so depending on how things work out with the Hotel Montreal chica I will probably try a few other hotels. Early last night the park about 3 blocks from the San Remo was packed with pretty girls, but by the time I went to the hotel, cleaned up, and got back there had been a heavy rain shower and there were only a few girls around waiting for the bus.

Someone had mentioned how easy it was to just approach a girl and ask her back to your room. I'm a fast operator in general, but it was a stretch for me to walk up to a girl on the street and proposition her. My Spanish is sucktacular, but she seemed interested at first but then said she didn't understand and looked away. I was tired after a long day so I went back to the room and pulled out my Spanish book. I'll try again later and will be successful.

I found Hotel Montreal to be a total dump. The tiny TV barely worked. They didn´t give me a remote for it initially and the buttons were missing. The window wouldn´t lock. The bed was hard and there was tons of street noise.

Getting a jack daniels at the hotel bar was an exercise in futility. Even after pointing right at the bottle for 2 minutes they were unable to see the bottle. When they did see the bottle they couldn´t come up with a price. After about 5 mins of this I gave up and went with Ron Abuelo, which is a good rum.

I never saw those alleged in house hookers, though I didn´t spend much time at the hotel (for obvious reasons).

A much better option is Hotel Andino. It´s at Avenida Peru & Calle 35. It´s guest friendly. Costs the same, about $20 a night for a single or double. They have safe deposit boxes in rooms. The room was about triple the size of my room in Hotel Montreal, with a much nicer bed. One of the managers speaks fluent English. The TV gets many stations, including HBO. Hardly any street noise. This was one of the best value hotels I've ever stayed at, and I´m comparing it here to the nice clean cheap hotels I´ve stayed at in Bangkok.

On pricing again, it's true that just 6-12 months ago the indy chicas at Veneto, or Habanos, would have been in hog heaven to get a minimum $70/lay. What's changed since then? Hyperinflation in PTY living costs? Nope. Only thing to change has been PTY gaining recognition as a monger's destination, mongers plowing in without the sort of "compass" re pricing and everything else as ISG.info provides, and they're paying whatever the chica demands, presumably tricked into thinking, "when in Rome..."

I'm among the wave of gringos who's here looking at property offerings, with an eye towards fleeing the USA-Titanic. I've been around here several months. The Panama land/real-estate scene has gone from merely heated, to insane. There are many examples of areas where land is selling for 10 times more per meter than 5 years ago. Local Panamanians who've got some land, have all heard stories by now of how this and that land in their area just sold for some (recently unimaginable) price per square meter. They're getting drunk with dollar signs in their eyes. Nowdaze should someone approach them about their land, they ask double what the plot across the street sold for last week. It's truly frothy... you know, the little bubbles on top of the big bubbles? Just to let you in on the latest goings on the city. Just some general info on the local happenings

Hotel San Remo is $20 per night. You can go around the corner to Dos Mares and I believe it is $10 or $11 per night. San Remo is not a bad hotel, only a few years old and serves it's purpose well. Just around the corner to the right is where the working girls stand about dark. Some nice looking young girls. The park is across the street to the left and about 2 or 3 blocks up. You can bet if the girls are there and by themselves or in small groups they are available. It is a big leap the first time to ask them to go back to the hotel. Panama City is a neat place and for my first time visiting a Latin American country I'm surprised how easy it is to get around and get things done. The people are extremely friendly and seem glad that Americans come to visit their country.

No matter where I've been, if I'm having trouble communicating and no amount of miming or trying to Spanish-ize English words has done the trick, there is an English speaker somewhere nearby that has been willing to help.

The lady barber in Bella Vista got a security guard from the nearby bank to find an American pensionado to help me locate the park, and a nice French man helped the guy at the mobile telephone store understand that I was not trying to buy a gun, but only asking why the guys on the motorcycles were wearing body armor and carrying machine guns. It turns out there are lots of banks and casinos in the area, and machine guns minimize problems with theft.

Around the Veneto Casino there are dozens of shops selling cell phones, accessories, and prepaid minutes. I was able to get a brand new Motorola C115 plus a case and a bunch of minutes for $35, but if you know Spanish you should be able to get better deals.

This area is also home to the sex clubs like Oasis and Life Girls, plus the independents in the Veneto. This is right in the middle of everything you would want to do, and there are a bunch of hotels within a few blocks for just about any budget. There was a guy standing across the street from the Veneto handing out cards offering service at the Oasis for $50, but I didn't have time to enter. I did take a stroll through the Veneto, and just like the reports said, there are many girls hanging out playing penny slots and looking around. Some of them were pretty, some not so pretty, but it's nice to know they're there if you need them.

A couple of blocks down there is a bridge over the road and underneath there are several bus stops and a bank of telephones. As I walked through this area I noticed a bunch of pretty younger women standing around and checking me out. I have had more than one expatriate tell me that every woman in Panama is probably available, so if that is the case these are good hunting grounds.

i just returned from a two week trip to panama and costa rica.

here are some of my observations:

this was my first trip to panama, although i have been to costa rica many times.

panama - i was in several locations in panama: panama city, colon, david, puerto armuelles, and paso canoas.

i was pretty impressed with panama. yes it was warm, but i found a nice hotel in pamama city with a nice swimming pool. the latino hotel - $ 20. 00 per night, chica friendly-no chica fees, and centrally located.

roads in panama - way better than costa rica. the panamerican highway is just like the 'best super interstate system' in the usa.

the women - saw lots and lots of them all over the place in panama city.

seems like most of the gals were in or around the casinos. ......the veneto and the fiesta casino. they were just standing around like at the entrance to the lounge at the fiesta casino. sometimes they would be in groups of 6 - 7 or more. you could easily approach them and start talking to them, if you knew some spanish, but many of them spoke good english too.

i met a nice gal named lily, age 24, from columbia. we negeoaited the price for 1 hour for $ 40.00 and then went by taxi to my hotel - the latino hotel.
had an enjoyable session with her, and then she left by taxi, and i went to bed.

she gave me one of her cards, which simply said "lily" with her cell phone number. 6628-9241.
and also "acompanante total discresion" printed on the card.
on a 1- 10 scale she was about a 7-8 in looks, and about a 5 in sexual satisfaction.


manolo's restaurant -
a good place to eat & to pick up ho's .........

i ate several times here and had pretty good food, with moderate prices. and i also discovered that around 9 pm. the chicas start coming in an setting at the tables (outside - on the patio ).
you can stroll down the sidewalk and stop and chat with them as you go by. they are "working" and will want to meet you, and this is a great informal place to 'pick them up' for a date to take them back to your hotel. the general going rate should be about $ 40-50. 00 per hour.

mp's- only went to one- downtown- the osasis massage parlor. $ 35. 00 up front fee - 30 minutes. then you negeoaite with your gal for perhaps another $ 30-40. 00 for full service. bj & sexo. so the total will be about $ 75. 00. i visited it a couple of times, but did not participate here. there were 7-8 girls working when i stopped by.

hablanos (sp)- panama city ..... cigar shop and bar:

there is an outside patio area (across the street from the mariott hotel).
this is a local hangout for many ho's....especially the gals from columbia.
they are seemingly stuck on themselves.....and also on their price of "cien por una hora".
go there, take a look, have a drink on the patio, and then move on to 'greener pastures'.

food- the food in panama, especially in the restaurants is really cheap compared to costa rica.

examples= hamburger - 50 cents; french fries - 50 cents; coffee or tea- 30 cents; american style breakfast w/ eggs, bacon, toast, orange juice, & coffee or tea, - $ 2. 00; a typical meal of chicken, potatoes, or rice/beans and salad is around $ 1. 50-2. 00- most of the smaller restaurants.
restaurant food in panama seemed to be about 30-40 % cheaper than similar fare in costa rican restaurants.

taxi's - you could go just about anywhere (except the airport) for only
$ 1. 00.

hotels in panama :
good 2-3 star hotels were about $ 20. 00. some with pools too in this price range.

panama city - hotels :
stayed at the hotel costa inn for the first night - $ 20.00, (no visitors allowed) but moved next day to hotel latino w/a pool- which i liked better for $ 20.00. chica friendly, no chica fees.

david, panama - i stayed at the hotel alcala. chica friendly, no chica fees, real clean, and above average - $ 20.00.
others in david - hotel occidental - (two gringo friends were staying there in the same room for only $ 14.00 total-for both.)


before leaving the us, i had made in inquiry with the hotel marparaiso, as they had free airport pickup (which would have saved $ 25-28. 00 on the airport taxi ride). but did not reserve or confirm a room with them, when i found out that they did allow 'visitors' in the rooms.

never-the-less. when i got off the plane in panama city. there was a guy waiting for me, from that hotel with my name on his card at the airport when i landed in panama city. guess they were hungry for business.......but it was speculation on their part to send their van and driver to pick me up at the airport.

i had met a fellow on the plane, who sat next to me, and he had a rental car and had offered me a free ride into panama city i would deliver me at my hotel - the costa inn. he was from new jersey, but had been born and raised , in panama city. .....later moving as a young man to the usa. he had 'family' still in panama city. thanks rock for the free ride...........

goods - clothing and shoes were way cheaper than similar goods in costa rica.
i bought a pair of size 12 shoes (loafers) in colon that were made in the usa for only $ 7. 00. (and it's hard to find a size 12 shoe in any central american country. ) they have smaller feet - i guess).

casinos - panama city......the veneto casino and the fiesta casino (only ones i visited) will rival many of the good casinos in las vegas, for sheer size and plushness.

and i particullary enjoyed playing the penny slots.......putting in a dollar in the slot machines (panama city) and getting 100 credits ( at 1 penny per credit) to play the slot. that's 100 'pulls' for a buck....if you do it right. ((( the best you will do in costa rica is 25 cent or 100 colone slots....with only 4 'pulls per $ 1.00 there.........

i also got free drinks while playing the slots (of course) and also actually got credit slips (from those machines....they are nicer and newer slot machines than in costa rica ) for a total of about $ 15.00 in winnings.....for only a one dollar investment. and i did cash those in....as i can gamble, but can simply walk away and quit at any time.....
really i only gamble on the slots for the free drinks........

ho's - most i paid was $80. 00 in the city of david. for an exceptional local beauty. who looked a lot like angeline jole (the american actress who is brad pitt's lady). with the pouty lips and great body. but the $80.00 included a $ 40. 00 bar fine to take her out for the night from the la esmeralda night club where she worked.

the least i paid. was $ 10. 00 for 10 minutes. this $ 10.00 was for the same young lady at the la esmeralda club in david. we went to her room in the back of the club for a 10 minute quickie. the bouncer/waiter started knocking on her door after 10-15 minutes. but if she likes you. she will let you stay 20-30 minutes for the $ 10. 00. (she is of course hoping for a tip. which is up to you to give or not to give).

i will not reveal this gals name......as i really liked her, and may want to return to david to see her again.....maybe for a real gfe next time.

i actually asked her to accompany me on up into costa rica for the rest of my trip......and she agreed.....but i then decided the next morning not to take her..........as any good schooled englishman would say, " why carry coals to newcastle ".

i will say that one gal from columbia, named luna (from la esmeralda's) ......who was her friend spoke nearly flawless english, and acted as a translator for this gal and i.
and it was really quite ironical that i had been with luna for the $ 10.00 quickie....before finding the second girl a little later on....in the same club the same evening.

if you want to know more about the city of david......then pm - don - "wants to play" ..... on this forum. he is the # 1 proponent of david, panama......and rightly so, as i think it is a real nice place to go.

at la esmeralda's night club in david, i was such a good sport that i even paid $ 10.00 for my taxi driver to get laid there too. he thought that was great....and i probably made a "friend for life" with that gesture. i also picked out my amiga luna, to get the business from me/him so as to give her a small propina for helping me with the spanlish translations. later i also gave her another $10.00 propina for her translating help.

colon- free trade zone:

i found some great prices on hard goods at the "free zone" shopping area in colon, panama also. i did not buy anything there, as we were pressed for time to get on the train back for panama city.
you could really save some hard cash if you wanted to buy small motorcycles, or outboard motors, or such in the "free zone" in colon. i think you could save a lot of money shopping for most everything there.

recommendations-

go to and see the mira flores locks on the panama canal. this was the real highlight of my whole trip. also i would recommend the train between panama city and colon. or vice versa. for $ 22. 00 - one way. a little pricey, but worth the cost, as you get to see a lot of lake gatun and the canal along the way.

town of puerto armuelles. on the beach. just down the road from paso canoas (the frontier - on the border with costa rica).

nothing going on here. except it would be a great place to "get lost" and lay around and drink your life away. and i met 4 gingos there in a bar, who were obviously doing just that.


panama travel:
i flew into panama city from atlanta.....then flew from panama city to city of david via panana air....$ 54.00 ticket......then took the bus from david to paso canoas - on pan american highway, then via bus from the costa rica border (paso canoas) to san isidro (good trip - good roads), then, as i wanted to stop in golfito cr to check out the free trade zone there..... i took the bus to golfito......which was ok....but the part of the trip from dominical to quepos was on a dirt road....and the bus was simply loaded.....stopping every 3-4 minutes to load and unload people.....and that 60-70 mile part of the trip was at a blazing speed of about 5-10 miles per hour.....it simply took forever for that leg of the trip......so if you are planning on making the trip from the panama/cr border at paso canoas via bus........i would suggest an alternate route, if possible, so you don't to have to endure the 'dirt road' leg of the trip from dominical to quepos, cr.

border crossing at paso canoas was pretty 'painless' though....only took about 10 minutes to walk across the border, and get my passport stamped...... with a 'local guide' - whom i tipped with a $ 3.00 propina.
then got on another bus for the trip on into costa rica.

some people had previously expressed that they had had bad experiences crossing the border at paso canoas. that it had taken a long time and that they were hasseled along the way.......my trip ,on the contrary , was very pleasing....crossing there....no problems at all......and very quick.

i also picked up some information from others who have 'been there - done that' ....that you can go to paso canoas.......after you have been in costa rica for your alloted 90 days.......but if you go on the 88th or 89th day....then you can get your passport stamped.....and do not have to spend the extra three days in panama......you simply go, get your papers stamped, and then turn around and leave the same day (all within the law) ..........this will be great for future trips .....if and when i decide to move to central america.

next time i will go via bus from paso canoas to san jose......then on over to jaco beach from san jose......and not try to go up the pacific coast of cr.


my final thoughts on panama:

in general from my observations i think you will get "more bang for the buck" in panama than in costa rica.

i will make a separate report on my trip to costa rica ..... in that section.

Nice report. The observations about Pan vs. CR prices really resonates. I spent 3 weeks in CR recently, mostly San Jose, and I had price shock, after having spent 3 months in Pan. And San Jose was also palpably more dangerous than PTY... unsafe at night, razor wire everywhere. But #1 reason I left there was, my cash burn rate was so much higher than I-d grown used to throughout Panama (including the month I spent in David area).

Incidently I wrote up a few paragraphs yesterday and submitted to this PTY thread, and it seems to have fallen into a black hole?

Last night I was hanging out around the casinos in Bella Vista and after spending some time checking out the girls near the bus stops I met a local guy and asked him how to know which girls are available. He said he knew a pretty girl and would hook me up.
