Buying a local SIM card is not mandatory but cheap and anonymous. You can buy one for only 9 zl at the airport (newspaper store): no passport required and you will have a 9 zl credit. It means the SIM card is free! Additionnal credit: 25 or 50 zl. But you must have a sim-lock free phone.

And SIM are cheap and available in most kiosk or phone shop/stand.
