I've been to Bonsucesso and enjoyed the bairro. Many beautiful girls on the streets. I passed by Black & White but didn't enter as I was together with a GF.
There is a bus from Copacabana that goes all the way to Bonsucesso. It takes a while to get there. It could be worth the ride if you combine the B&W visit with a teleferico ride over Complexo do Alemão. Very nice and only cost R$1. I found it perfectly save as the favelas are under control of UPP.
Thanks for rec. Seems there is a Metro stop for Bonsucceso also which is at the same street Av. Paris as one of those boates.
You enjoyed the Complexo do Alemão trip? I have never visited the favelas. I have always been uncomfortable with the idea of "touring" a poor area, like it was a zoo or something. Maybe I am just overly self-conscious. Curious about other people's experience in this regard.
Copa is a shithole. The only problem with staying in Ipanema these days is that, at least for a while more, the metro is closed at General Osorio as they build out the line towards Barra. I wouldn't stay somewhere that didn't have easy Metro access to get to Centro and other places.
I'd prefer Copa over Ipanema for nice beach days. First I'd skip Posto 9 at Ipanema (gay area) but 2nd and more important I think people at Ipanema are more poshy. Therefore imo it is a lot easier to find locals / GdPs at Praia Copacabana.

The teleférico isn't build for tourists (even though it's getting visited by more and more tourists). It's built for the people living in Complexo do Alemão. It has several stations: Bonsucesso, Adeus, Baiana, Alemão, Itararé and Palmeiras. You can get off at any station to have a drink and enjoy the views. I've been to many favelas in Rio, but this is one of the most impressive when it comes to size. The teléferico isn't a zoo-tour like the ridiculous jeep-tours going to Rocinha.

Posto 9 is the section for "the young and beautiful people" and maconheiros. The area you mentioned is located a little bit further to the east.

Thanks for the feedback
Café 400 is the best I know iin that area of Rio. They open Mon-Fri because Saturday is a swinger club only for couples and Sun is closed. Ancoras is new for me. Paris Café has lower level of girls and customers. Anyway if you have time it is worthy to go Solarium at Lagoa and Montecarlo at Copacabana. It is no cheap but the most beautiful chicks are there. Damage can go from 200 to 300 USD, depending on drinks and time with the girl.
Thanks For the intel Leo I do hope to be able to slip away to Solarium or Montecarlo or both! But since Cafe 400 is so close I'm glad it's a viable option even if not the best Rio has to offer.
Thanks again for helping a fellow monster out!
So Solarium is open on Sunday?
I never sat my foot in Monte Carlo, and I propably never will.
30 seconds of googling, looking at MC website it says:
Segunda a Sexta 15:00hs às 2:00hs.
Sábado das 15:00hs às 24:00hs.
Domingo das 16:00hs às 24:00hs
Btw, it says entrance R$70, not R$90.

Solarium open Sunday?
So Solarium is open on Sunday?
Yes, it is.
Yes, it is.
I just looked at Solarium website and it does not show any hours for Sunday. Are you sure its open on Sunday?
I just looked at Solarium website and it does not show any hours for Sunday. Are you sure its open on Sunday?
All the termas are closed on Sunday so the GDPs can go and spend the day with their kids and management can count their Rheais.
You will have to make due with strip clubs, massage places or just take a GDP to Panda Motel for a change.
In Centro the only place I know thats open on Saturday even is Bar Florida-as area caters primarily to business people.
