I've been back in Manila for about 3 1/2 weeks now and will be leaving next week. I have to say that this has been quite an experience. If I have time, I will try to elaborate later.

I have been to Miss Universal in Pasay about a dozen times since I have been here. I have a "regular" there and she has met me a few other times outside of work also. Probalby 75% of the time I have taken one to three people and have paid for them every time.

I was in Manila the last time they did this and it provided some colorful entertainment to watch and snarled traffic a little more than usual for a while, but was otherwise of no consequence whatsoever for anyone but those who were directly involved. Unless you are a member of one of the Philippine political cliques or you are in the business of renting one of them to protect your interests there is no reason to care, since the government doesn't govern anything and the process of occasionally passing it back and forth between cousins involves nothing more than a lot of symbolic theatrical performance art. Treat it like you would one of those big movie musicals Hollywood produced in the 1930s, with lots of bad acting and colorful props and plenty of paid extras milling about in the background in cheap garish costumes to provide atmosphere.
