I have a friend in Ghana who says that we can now exchange all denominations of bills in addition to the $100. I haven't attempted it so, I will take mostly $100 notes. I wish someone could confirm this however. I like to verify my info.

Also, how many "Giftys" have you met in Ghana? It seems like every other Ghaniana is named Gifty.


I was one of the 1st posters on the original WSG in the early 1990s. This is no longer what I need info for. If some are exchanging info for the purpose of sex with minors, I'm outa here.

I've changed $100's, 50's and 20's without any problems for the old as well as the new cedis.

I sure hope it not for the purpose of sex with a minor ! The legal age of consent is 18 in Ghana as verified by a senior police officer friend.

Do not risk!
Visa is only issued by embassies abroad.
Enter Ghana with a valid visa in your poket.

Visa is released by Embassies of Ghana to people who are able to submit a valid passport, 2 or 3 pictures, a certificate of vaccination against yellow fever received at least 10 days before, a return ticket, a hotel reservation or an invitation letter or a credit card. Those three last points are frequently missed by the embassies.

Frequently I have heard about rejected people.
In spite od the concept that in Africa everything ios possible - bribery - begin your journey troubleless.

Visas are issued on arrival only to those who commenced their trip from a country where Ghana is not represented in the form of an embassy or consulate or high commission. A couple of years ago I landed in Accra without a visa and since I had arrived from London where there is a Ghana embassy, I was denied a visa and kept waiting for 8 hours before they decided to issue one!! Do Not Risk!!

I will be in Accra for 25 days this December. After months of reading all you guys experiences LOL I have decided to test the waters. Thanks for your post, one question? Is the Newhaven Hotel easy enough to find. I am sure the Paloma is a good landmark but I read that the taxi drivers are not the sharpest tools in the shed, if I use Paloma Hotel as a guide, what directions would I give the taxi from there. I will be coming from the airport and arriving about 8pm. Do you think they would rip me because it would be late and they would have me helpless by then? Is there a number for this hotel? I have searched but was unable to find one.

I don't know exactly how long I will stay there because I also want to travel to cape coast and maybe Kumasi.

Is the hotel considered safe and secure?

An official taxi from the airport will likely cost you around 8 cedis, dont pay more, tell him to go to Paloma, when you get to the turn off, instead of going into the Paloma parking lot, head straight on up the dirt road for maybe 30 metres, take the first left, 30 metres ahead on the right hand side is the Newhaven Hotel with a white lit up sign outside. It is not a large place but you should easily find it. If you can't, but you are in the Paloma area, just ask anyone on the street. Google search "newhaven hotel accra" and this is copied from the first response

I don't know if the number is accurate. The hotel is often quite busy with Ghanaians and a few budget travellers, not surprising at their prices so if you can reserve ahead, I would. Be warned, the receptionists are a miserable bunch, don't expect a smile, but excellent vfm.

Thanks for the info, if you have any other suggestions about finding beautiful black ladies feel free LOL. I need all the help I can get. I promise a full report when I get back. I have chatted with many ladies through AFF and other sites but when I traveled before this never worked out, I always found my pussy by walking around. I do plan a trip around maybe to Kumasi and cape coast also. I will travel wherever the pussy seems the most promising LOL. I will probably change hotels from what I have read about here.

Well the ladies come in all forms, if you want the pros then just head on down to Macumba or Jokers, they look good though I prefer regular girls. If you have the time and inclination, you can hook up via social networking sites, always worked for me. I never tried AFF and afrointroductions is a waste of time in my opinion. By using networking sites you can arrange to meet regular girls who live in places like Lapaz, Spintex or Dansoman who would never dream of going to some of the clubs in Accra and generally lead a relatively simple existence, though in my experience, the most enthusiastic in the bedroom. Often though they will be looking for a relationship so that is an issue you have to deal with. If you hook up this way, one tip, don't bother arranging to meet a girl who lives in Tema, it's too far away and they will always be so late.

On my last trip I met a great girl via a networking site who lived out in Spintex, worked in a fast food joint up there by day, she was insatiable and I ended up sticking with her for a few days.

In Kumasi, I recommend to stay at a place called the Kumasi Catering Resthouse, it is around $25 a night but you get a huge chalet and it's quite central. There is also an excellent restaurant attached. The times I have been there I went to "Roses", an air con bar not too far away where you can find female company, they are semi-pros but not as hard core as you find in Accra.

Cape Coast you will find many students, though I don't know the nightlife there too well and again, many don't go out so it's always worth hooking up in advance if you are pushed for time.

Enjoy Ghana, it's a great country and well worth travelling, many visitors also on this forum never get to travel out of Accra. Last time I went I travelled down from Tamale via the Volta region back to Accra, it was tough but fascinating.

If you feel adventurous you could go to one of the local hairdressing saloons. Many of them have a lot of girls as apprentices. Most of the time they are not so sure what to do with western hair. Make sure they don't spoil it!

But . . .

You will have a lot of young non-pro girls around you who are very interested to get to know you. At this point it is easy to set up dates for later.

I think its like Cuba vs Colombia, if you can relate to this comparison. Ghana is more like Cuba. Kenya like Colombia. The infrastructure is more primative in Ghana but, Ghana is safer. Its easy to travel on your own and you can get away from the cities. The women don't dress as well and there's many refugees from Liberia, IC, and then there's those nasty Nigerians. In public, Ghanian women are well mannered but, the first out-of-the-way corner you find yourself alone, she will be all over you. Ghana is not a party destination. Most Ghanians are in bed by 8:00 pm. Kenya has more toursists and you can party until you drop but, is much more dangerous even outside the cities. Women generally are more attractive and dress better than the western Africans in Ghana. Kenya has more to choose from with many Ugandans, Ethiopians, and other eastern varieties. In both places, I think 90% of the women are "*****s". Kenyans are more aggressive in the clubs. Both are ruthless just hide it differently. My experiences are different because in Ghana, I was a bachelor. In Kenya, my Kenyan (ex wife) watched me and every other woman who may have looked at me closely. I think Kenya is better for women because they weren't as fat but, you won't be alone either places, whether you want to or not.

Yes, in both the countries I was more than once! Be assured, in terms of mongering it makes actually no difference in which African country you are! Ghana, Kenya, Cameroon or Gabon: you will always find plenty of pretty young ladies and virtually all of them are available for you! :)

I can not agree in a whole with you. I just came back of 2 weeks in the Gambia, and I was very disappointed. It was nowhere near comparible to Kenya. What is the going rate in Ghana for a nice woman? In Kenya it is approx. 10-15 €, in the Gambia 30€.
