Hi mate, it's worth noting over 3,500 people die in Australia each year of the normal flu and no one thinks of cancelling flights to and from China, let alone not visiting Chinatown and the restaurants. No one has died here yet from it.

The symptoms of this new strain appear to be the same as normal flu and I think the media are doing their usual fear mongering to spread panic etc. In saying that, I won't be planning a China work trip until this clears up or settles down in a few months, LOL.

Would he have built a massive hospital in 10 days if he thought this disease was just a common cold? Would he have arrested 8 doctors back in December for alerting people of this disease?

I may get an opportunity to go Indonesia / Philippines by end of March. I know no one has the crystal ball to predict it whether is safe or not by then.

I'm going to do some pseudoscience. Assuming we got it under control today, we can assume there will still be human to human transmission for sometime. So on that basis let's assume three to five half lives as a handy rule based on elimination of medicines from the body. With a 14 dy incubation and then maybe another fourteen to get rid of it, it could be floating around for 6 weeks to two months.

Depends on your company rules but that might mean avoiding most of east and south east asia until end of Easter or later.
