Then the other cabbies joined in and formed a chorus line chanting 80 pesos. I said to myself "fuck this BS" and told all of them I'd walk to Adelitas rather than pay their Taxi Cartel.

So I started to walk to the bridge. It took less than 10 seconds for this young dude in a Taxi Libre to come up, honked me to get in, and gladly accept my 50 pesos. I turned to the Cabbie chorus line and waved goodbye. It sucks that we Americans are often price gouged. Can't let that to continue.

Today one of my favorites sent me a message that the 500 pesos note I gave her last week was a counterfeit. She is a regular that I normally have dinner with when I am in town and whom I have lent money without hesitation in the past, so it is unlikely that she is lying to me.

I received this bill from the currency exchange across from McDonalds outside the Border Patrol office. Unsure what I am going to do. Possibly make another exchange, keep the receipt then swap it out and give it back to them claiming that they just gave me a counterfeit bill?

I looked on the internet and apparently this is a new thing this year because in the past, counterfeits were in 200 pesos bills. Apparently these new counterfeit 500 pesos bills are of excellent quality and workmanship that the normal eye cannot identify let alone us non-Mexicans. I want to warn everyone but I am unsure if it will do any good since none of us will be able to detect these new counterfeit bills.

I just got my Global Entry, and with the Sentri card, I understand the Tijuana boarder crossing is much quicker. Is there a separate line for Sentri card holders? If I take a taxi from Adeliatas Bar do I go to a different location to cross back to US?

I haven't been down in about three months when the posted price at the time was 35 pesos to ElCentro. There's also another sign that says if they charge you more than the posted price they have to pay you five times the amount. You should just walk up to the sign, show the listed price and they will honor it. If not there going to ask for $ 5 and more. The yellow taxis have to honor the posted prices where as the Taxi Libres can do what ever they like. Your right the taxis are always trying to rip off the gringos.

Perhaps you should bring the fake notes and report details to the FBI. May be they can catch the counterfeiters.

I've had mine for 2 years and it has probably saved me 20 hours at airport security and another 20 hours at the border crossing.

Taxi to the same place. When walking to the building, stay all the way to the right. There are some markings for Sentri lanes. I've never needed to wait to get inside the fence and have never had to wait for more than about 5 people inside.

I make it known PRIOR to exchanging money. If need be I will only change a little money at a time to avoid this issue. If no one can give me small change they will lose my business.

The driver told me someone tried to burn a cab earlier that afternoon.

Fakes are abundant in Mexico, even can be dispensed from ATMs.

Once in the past when she needed emergency money, I asked her if she wanted it wired, mailed or in person that weekend. Hours later she replied that she didn't need the money after all. That amount was larger than 500 pesos.

If she needed cash, she would simply have said "hurry up down here this weekend and I will screw your brains out for 1000 pesos" instead of "whenever you are in town next, could you swap out this fake 500 p bill you gave me?

He said the commercial police who is usually at the front door had walked over to the DJ booth and was trying to get a bullet out of the chamber, at that point he had it pointed at the ground. But it was jammed. He then held the weapon level and it went off and struck the DJ in the shoulder. His condition is still pretty serious. There was a massive police response because when it was reported they said a cop was shot.
