It happened to me a couple of years ago. I reported it immediately to the FB authorities and they immediately blocked access to the profile. You might want to let them know the nature of the blackmail so that they can block that IP address from contacting any of your FB friends. As you found out through your research its a well organized syndicated scam and got global attention when one of the people being blackmailed actually committed suicide.

I just happened to be in the area and free for some time, so I thought to check this lodge.
