1. AC is not any more dangerous than Pattaya if you stay on compass. Fields and Perimeter bars are great. There is no reason to wander far afield late at night.

2. Thai food is superior, but you can eat reasonably well in AC.

3 Although Pattaya has 10x more girls and bars, there are a ton of women in AC. They will not run short, ever. Supply exponentially exceeds demand. I have been to AC 3 times. I still have visited less than one third of the bars I eventually plan to visit. I have visited Pattaya 8 times and will never experience more than 15% of the bars in Pat.

4. Pattaya gets boring after a while too and who can stand the straight tourists clogging up Walking Street in high season. It has become a gawker's paradise freak show. AC is for mongers only. A strong selling point.

5. If you like Pattaya, you owe it to yourself to visit AC at least once and compare. If you like AC, you owe it to yourself to visit Pattaya at least once and compare. I like both towns. I highly recommend breaking up an Asian trip by spending time in both places. This is very easy and inexpensive to accomplish thanks to direct flights straight into Clark from BKK. The bottom line: Filipinas are very different than Thai girls. Both nationalities have their plus and minus points. A seasoned well-travelled punter will want to sample from both pools. Variety is the spice of life.

What I do on most trips is split the time between the two countries, you only need several days in each town and then move on, keeps you stimulated with a far more intense experience overall. Over a two week period one can even spend a few days in Bangkok and Manila, can't wait for the next trip in just a few days. Doing this sounds expensive for the budget minded, however, it is easily doable on a moderate budget, I have developed the [b]skills[/b] To travel at the minimal cost.

I just spent 5 days there, first time vist, and never felt in danger whatsoever. If you don't do stupid things and stay in the areas that sane people would stay you will be just fine. Would you walk Watts in LA? The closest thing to crime I saw were guys that were literally falling down drunk being helped out of the bars by multiple bar girls. I'm sure those sessions didn't end well. And that's the headline or report everyone will base their conclusions from. Not really fair.

Tiger 888, Walk on the south side of Chicago and you will feel the same danger. Go to Baltimore, DC, NYC, or the favelas in Rio or some areas in Meddelin, there are areas you would go to and there are areas one would wonder why you are going there. As I said I would never go to Watts.

Most people go to Pattaya or Angeles specifically to do stupid things we tend not to do back home. Get drunk, drop their guard a bit, and most importantly, spend time with hookers (and be in close proximity to all the lowlife associated with them -- boyfriends/pimps, drug dealers, addicts and so on). The difference is, in Pattaya it usually takes a lot of effort to get into serious trouble, whereas in Angeles all it takes is venturing few hundred meters away from the small Fields Ave drag at the wrong time.

Of course, you're right, with a bit of awareness and some luck you could be just fine in Angeles, it's not a war zone.

I'd rate Angeles less safe than Pattaya, Manila less safe than Bangkok and Hong Kong and Singapore more safe than everywhere else.

Crocodilexp, with alll due respect, I disagree with you. Most people go to Pat or AC to have a good time and to have a lot of sex with friendly bar girls. Sure a lot of alcohol is consumed. So what? There is nothing stupid in that. I think shagging a whole lot of women in a short amount of time is very healthy for ones psyche. It is true one can wonder all over Pattaya drunk late at night no problem. So I agree that Pattaya and BKK are both safer than AC, but punting in AC is definitely within reasonable 95% safety margins.

I have been punting in Asia a long, long time. I spend 100% of my time with the girls. I never come into social contact with BF's, pimps, or addicts. Your dark description of AC does not match my experience at all. The bars are 100% safe. Fields is 100% safe. Barhopping on Fields is 100% safe. The hotels are safe. The bar girls themselves are never a danger. The worst thing that will happen in AC is your girl will run out on the EWR after one shot. Lock your valuables up in the room safe. Take a trike if travelling late at night between Fields and Perimeter bar areas. By the way, the bar areas of Raymond and A Santos are safe as long as the bars are open. That's about all there is too it. Like anywhere in the world, if you go looking for trouble, I am sure you will find it. AC is no exception on that score.

One just needs to exercise a little common sense. If something bad or physically threatening / dangerous happened to you personally in AC then tell us about it so we can understand what you are talking about. And let's take further discussion of AC safety or lack thereof over to the AC thread. I am pretty sure most board members over there will not agree with your position either. Let's find out.

I agree that the PI is a more dangerous country than LOS, HKG, and Singapore, but to understand the degree of danger, comparisons help. I think AC can become dangerous over time to expats living there who become known to the bad guys, but not to short stay punters hanging out on Fields or Perimeter if they have any minimum level of common sense.

Hey Tiger, how would you compare AC to CP in terms of violent crime against foreigners. Manila is obviously more dangerous than BKK, but MNL does not seem more dangerous than any large American city and many Central and South American cities like Mexico City and Sao Paulo are far more dangerous. I feel fairly comfortable walking around Ermite / Malate, but I stay alert of my surroundings at all times which is something that is not required in BKK or Singapore.
