2 week trip starting tomorrow
I just booked a trip leaving tomorrow for DR. My first trip there.
I'll be there in SD from tomorrow until the 19th at Europa, then to the 25th at Reina and then headed to the north part of the country for a week.
I've been piecing together a good 7-day SD plan (drinking, nightlife, etc) from reading the reports, but I'm having to weed through a lot of stuff to find the gems I'm looking for.
Can anyone let me know the following:
1. When landing, what is the price of a taxi to where hotel Europa is? Looks like a 20 min ride, but I just need a basic idea or can I just say "turn on the meter" and trust the guys in front of the air port.
2. Anyone know if there are good night clubs there during the week or weekend.
3. Is there any place remotely like Del Rey there or is it mostly parlors in the day and strips clubs at night?
4. Finally, can someone just give me a rule of thumb as far as price goes for the parlors, strip clubs, and the independents (again, is there any place with a lot of independents like Del Rey)?
Sorry for the questions which I can probably research and find, but hopefully I'll just have a small helpful bump in information and I promise to return the favor with my first field report.
Look at the Map below your post
The map has a to z info about sd. It has not been updated but is very good. Sd is not easy for newbies. There's no central place to hangout. The will tell where and what's available. Where to eat to where the street walkers are. The key is do not press there plenty girls wanting your cash. Near your hotels you will be approached. So relaxed and do fun things. Go to a mall or casino. They will fine you. Good luck a be confident.

Cannot Fit a Square Peg in a Round Hole
I say that to say people must make sure they have a good plan when they come to Santo Domingo. The first thing you have to understand about Santo Domingo is that it is a big city so you must treat it as such. For those of you who do not want to pay for taxi's or hire a driver to take you to multiple locations or the best option I believe is to rent a car you have just limited your options tremendously. I only know of Old Kool and a couple of others who have been able to navigate successfully without a renting a car in Santo Domingo or using a driver. There are a few of you who have wrote about spending time on Venezuela where all the disco's and lounges are, but that is few and far between. Why you would come all the way to Santo Domingo and not be mobile and move around is beyond me. Some will say, but I do not want to pay a taxi driver all night long to take me around they are too expensive. Another reason you might say is I am only here for a short time. Then when things do not work out the way you want it too you cannot be mad or disappointed of the outcome.
I have been listening to the same questions asked all the time and when you realize it costs 24 dollars just to get into Santo Domingo by taxi from the airport. It makes no sense to me why someone does not pay 30 dollars a day using a rent a car so they can drive around and see what the city has to offer, but that is why Santo Domingo has always been for the "big boys". The no planners walk up and down conde street hoping to meet a girl or have to wait until the night to go to the strip club or casa and overpay (good luck gfe) unless they are willing to pay for a taxi to take them to gbp. It might cost more for a taxi and driver to go to gbp then actually to hook up with a women there, but people just do not manage Santo Domingo the right way. Santo Domingo has so much more to offer than casa's, strips clubs and casinos, but you would never know that by the same questions and stories you hear about Santo Domingo. That is why I would never go to Santo Domingo unless I was mobile, but that is just me. I am not paying money to overpay and be bored because I am afraid to rent a car. You will have a better time if you go somewhere else.
A quick story, I was at energy nightclub on Venezuela on a Thursday night not to long ago. Women drink free from 8 to 11 pm. Let me say again, very beautiful non-pro women drink free from 8 -11 pm. Anyway, I was there Chilin with my girl and shortly after 11 pm a white gringo in his 50's comes in and sits down and observes the crowd. He calls over the waiter and I see him speak to two hot girls sitting alone. Long story short, they come over to his table and sit down and he buys a bottle of black label. Later in the night, I look over he looks at me and gives me the nod I am not doing bad and I give him a head nod of approval. Later that night, he walks out holding hands with one of the hot chicks he just met. He knew what some of the people know on this board you have to adjust to your environment to have good time. He knew certain night's women drink free at various clubs early on Venezuela (Euphoria 8-11 pm on Wednesday, Energy Thursday 8 11 pm). Further, the club next to energy has a country western theme and plays hot Latin dance music and women sit at tables drinking beers. I have gone in to this club and bought a couple rounds of beers for women at tables and have met some hot chicks that way by myself. Never afraid to fail, or you can call it having some balls. Now some of you will say, but I do not speak the language well then you need to get a guide that is cool and you pay for a persons drinks all night and all they have to do is to translate for you they are usually very happy. Also, you could put their drivers license on your rental car and have them drive you around. Further, there are smaller bars around the city you should check out. There are casa's in Santo Domingo if you like that option, but that would not be my first option and I am just not in to the pay for play scene been there done that. I like meeting people and really learning about there culture. Now, that is just me and to everyone to each his own. Cape always has stories about meeting good women so they are there, but you have to listen and adjust. Most of us do not go into a job interview unprepared, but you do when it comes visiting Santo Domingo not a good use of cash in my opinion. I just would not fly all the way to Santo Domingo and then try to convince the board you pulled a hot sw because you did not want to pay the casa fee or your dc cupid did not work out and you were able to get lucky. When its raining out and you do not want to get wet you use an umbrella or stay inside you adjust accordingly. But, for Santo Domingo you want it to work the way you want it and then say Santo Domingo is not good sorry my friend you did not adapt to the environment.
Finally, you have to be honest with yourself when you visit Santo Domingo. If you're not willing to learn some Spanish, when you go out look the part, have an inviting and fun personality, willing to create flexibility in moving throughout the city, really do your homework in researching Santo Domingo then do not say it was Santo Domingo's fault you did not have goodtime. Nothing is free in life just how you want to pay for a good time is what matters.
Again, just my 2 cents do not get mad at me just my thoughts, but I just see people that keep making the same mistakes and are to stubborn to realize you cannot do it your way, but understand Santo Domingo is unique and do not waste your time if you are not serious with a good plan. Renting a car eliminates a good plan because i guarantee you will be flexible and move around and you will meet a ton of women that way. Again, it is a big boy town!
Everything Revere said is true
I will not drive in SD. No where in the US is the traffic as crazy. Issues like parking, being pulled over and risk of and accident scare the [CodeWord134] out of me. Motor couches, bumper to bumber traffic, pot holes and no signals. I drove there for over a week. I now use cabs with no problem because they know where they are going and I don't. Average trip both ways should be no more then 600 pesos. Like Revere I do not do casas or brothels and do not but I do not have the time to cultivate non pros. I enjoy SD night life but that comes into play on the weekends. Monday to Thursday I am not sure what to do. I like to wife up and do normal stuff you can do in a big city. Malls, movies and restaurants. If I run into a willing non pro sign me up. However that is not what I am searching for. This forum is primarily for guys doing P4 P. I put time in to make my time productive.
I no longer catch the $30 cabs from the airport. There is a local van that can be caught to SD for $2 on the 2nd floor of the airport. It stops in center SD. Right after you change your money walk 80 feet to the exit the local shuttle should be there.
