I will be passing through there so i will check out the lisboa hotel. can a sweet talking whitey get the same deal? after reading reviews both here and there it seems prices are all over the map. a runway model for the same price as a bg in manilla? is 50 dollars us the normal rate now in manilla? all inclusive? i guess Angeles City is much cheaper?

Am on safari in Manila and checked out the Butterfly Bar. Standard go-go (bikini dancing) bar owned by the guy who runs Foxy's on P Burgos. There is quality talent available (there was a sweet slim 18yo named Joy circulating as well as some other tasty looking ladies), but IMHO was not the norm and it certainly comes at a price. Bar fine was total PHP1,900, which was a PHP1,000 base fine plus 3x300 peso lady drinks. I thought this was a most odd pricing structure, capturing both the high PHP1,000 bar fine of EDSA Complex as well as the obligatory lady drinks of P Burgos. Considering that Butterfly sits in the neon shadows of LA Cafe just 1 min walk up the street, I struggled to see any strong advantage. There were no less than three girls I recognized as LA Cafe originals, so the talent pool cannot be considered exotic. The girls told me that the girls also come in from Amazonia and the sister bar at Burgos, so expect the talent to shuffle regularly.

All in all, Butterfly Bar is a relaxed and cozy atmosphere compared to LA Cafe and the girls were not as mercenary as P Burgos. The girls did not immediately assault me with lady drink requests (as I dislike at P Burgos) and the girls all cheered when one of the punters brought a girl out. All the benefits of being a new place. Worth checking out and might produce an occasional gem.

Happened to be in Manila last week during the big Anti-Arroyo rally, which was held in the Makati business district. Had to walk from my hotel to another hotel for a meeting, so brought my video camera. Getting into one of these demonstrations, you really see how the media (foreign and domestic) can really distort what is really happening. The pictures on TV made it seem like a real massive crowd.

The first picture I took from my hotel room. Once I got down onto the street I could just see people milling around. People must have thought I was bloody CNN or something because, as soon as they spotted me, they started waving their arms and cheering. Quite a festive atmosphere. Basically most people were wearing t-shirts from rival political parties and just chatting with each other.

You can see the pic I took with all the jeepneys lined up. I guess most were just bussed in for the event. I almost fell to the ground laughing when I got near the speaker truck - there was some guy singing "Oust GMA" to the tune from the song "YMCA."

Sorry, some of this is really Makati but I don't feel like sorting it out.

Went out last night to Miss Universal in Pasay City, Harrison Street with a group of 5 girls and another American guy. This is a stripper bar popular with Asian businessmen. It's not at all cheap, as evidenced by the kinds of cars parked out front. For example it costs 5000 to get a VIP room. Lots of drinks are included with this, but you have to negotiate separately for what you to with girls in here. Even so, it's worth coming here just for a look. The girls are mostly the creamy, flawless skin types popular with the clientele that comes here. Lots of nicely shaved pussies too. So even if you don't actually do anything it's worth a look.

It's usually OK bringing regular girls to bars like this. In fact it's good for making them horny, combined with a few glasses of wine, hehe.

After we left here I was able to separate out one of the girls and we went together to Conway in the Shangri-La in Makati. This is a live band place with a dance floor. A few more glasses of wine and some close dancing and I was 'in.'

Then I went to EDSA Entertainment Complex, near where EDSA meets Roxas Blvd. I found that I was about the only punter in the whole place. In hindsight it's silly that I didn't take someone from here because I had all kinds of fantastic choices. I did ask and was told that barfines are 1000 and then you negotiate with the girl.

After that I was off to LA Cafe, didn't see much there. Then I went to Ratsky, a live band place. I like the one in Cebu so I checked this one out. Again, not much there that wasn't already attached. By this time the gin tonic count was well into double figures. I was just sober enough to decide that I really didn't want to go back with a girl I didn't know, even though it was tempting to go back to EDSA.

Only spending 3 days here so there won't be time for much more hunting. I've kept my girl in Cagayan waiting long enough.

Gents: Thanks for the 2 up on the "protests". Seems that musician understands the score. The jeepneys would be needed to bus protesters in in any event and obviously someone has to organise the gig. I was in Davao a few months back when it was bombed. The Muslims had a "what about" protest outside CityHall, see below, and no one hassled them.
How widespred is hepatitis in the Phils? I find it hard to believe such a fucked up country has such low HIV rates. I read some dumb ass post here about a guy playing the odds because "only" 1-2% of Phil hookers are "officially" HIV+.
