Both day and night, there was a little cluster of hookers on the corner one block closer to the railway station in that street.

You could take a train to Trang or Phattalung and bus the rest.
Both towns' busstations are a bit far away from the rws tho - but doable.

I never had safety concerns on board a sleeper train other than the normal disproportionate unsafe behaviour of Thais in general... But do keep an eye out for low life farang - they are the worst.
Of course, NEVER disclose your destination to anyone, except trainpersonel.

I'm back from my 3 week trip to Thailand-I left on the 27th (the day of your replies) I have to concur, Bangsaen isn't a place for mongering, the only place I found was 1 shithole beer bar on the road towards the beach road, the one 6/10 girl doable there was worth the 500B ST charge, but the 2 anti farang lesbians who ran the place were not friendly at all & they wanted 500B as BF(non negotiable), out of principle I passed & paid my 100B(over charged) vodka&tonic & went back to my hotel.

There are a couple of thai bars which the Uni students went to after thei Saturday morning exams which looked interesting, but I didn't like my chances to make the effort to try to score so I called in a night & relaxed back at hotel as I was heading for disneyland for men/Pattaya early the next morning.

I was hoping to have a thai guest stay with me in bangsaen during the 2 nights I was there, but that fell through.

Bangsaen is nice for a quiet romantic getaway & the hotel I stayed at was very nice, but for mongering, don't get off the bus here & keep on going to Pattaya.

mouse[/QUOTE]Met the Shrimp at the airport (with her thinking that I had just arrived from London, rather than having had a few days in Pattaya), and had a very comfortable AirAsia flight to Krabi. Took a cab at the other end to our mountain resort hotel, about 30 minutes away. Evening at hotel, then back to room.

The next day exploring the area and sitting by the pool - very pleasant. Next day boat trip out to the 4 Islands - great day out, good swimming, snorkelling, clmbing (it was 450 Bht per person when booked through the hotel manager, a fraction of what most tourists are quoted). Next day hired a bike and cruised around - climbed up the Tiger Cave Temple, went to the fossil beach, went to market, lots of good food, etc. Bike was very cheap, and a great way to get around. Next day got taxi back to the airport and flew back to BKK (only slightly spoiled by taxi turning up 30 minutes late, and me nearly losing my normal Zen-like calm with the driver. It was very hard to explain to both the Shrimp and the taxi driver that if you don't get to the desk on time then you don't get on the plane. I know - I've been there).

The Shrimp had to go to the temple so I was left on my own for the evening, and bumped into an old friend at the Beergarden.

All in all a lovely little holiday with a lovely girl.

Can't really comment on other aspects, but I didn't get the impression that there was much of a 'scene' in Krabi, although I am sure that if you look around you will find something interesting.

There are a couple of bar areas in Ao Nang (hope I got the name right) A lot of Farangs there are on tight budgets so wouldn't be hard to get the best bar girls.

But I had GF in tow at the time.

...because it is just a holiday snap of the first of the 4 Islands cruise.

The Shrimp is in the foreground, taking every precaution to avoid getting dark skin. Suprised she didn't bring a blanket to hide under.

The officers will understand that you are ultimately so cool, and it will then take all of 3 minutes to complete everything. Smile a lot as you say your thanks.

I live in Chiang Mai and will be spending a week in Chiang Rai soon. I have made fly through visits before with the GF to visit temples, but this time I will be own my own. I do not know Chiang Rai and would appreciate Girl Friendly hotel suggestions (am looking for nice places) plus any info on the Chiang Rai scene. I will be taking care of some business while in Chiang Rai, but will have plenty of time to have fun. Any tips will be appreciated.

Border pass only can be issued to those who resides in the states which border to Thailand. Kelantan, Kedah etc. The proof of address must be in the IC.

Well, Betong is really nice place to relax and "lakai" as well. Try. Kongka Betong. The place drains money out of you. But. The pussies. Wow.

I recently returned from a month bird watching trip in Thailand. A few nights were in Bangkok and Chiang-mai, and a number of nights were camping in national parks or staying in REALLY small towns, but a few nights I was in larger towns and had a look around. This was only my second time in Thailand and I speak no Thai, so consider this a beginner report.

Tha Ton

This is a pleasant small town a few hours north of Chiang Mai (past Fang and Mae Ai near the Burma border), with some nice and inexpensive tourist hotels on the river. (You can get a boat from here to Chiang Rai). I asked at a bar where I might find some ladies, and was told of a place a little south of town that might work. I found the place, which looked promising: hidden down a back street, colored lights and silhouettes of ladies painted on the wall, and plenty of women inside. But I was told by the girl who sat down with me, and the bartender, and the mama-san: girls do not go out, ever.

So I went to a massage place that was still open at 11:00 (going north, just across the bridge on the left), where they had little curtains separating the mats, but was tired enough that I just went with the massage. Next night I went back and asked the boss about extras. "You want boom-boom? 700 baht" She called out someone (no fishbowl here! ) and we went off to a small private room. Nothing memorable, but I think it’s the only game in town.

Chaeng Saen

On the Mekong about 15 KM downriver from Golden Triangle. Very pleasant riverfront with excellent fresh fish available. Found a bar with some women, but the bartender said they don’t go out. So he took me on his motorbike to another bar he thought they did go out, but same story here. So a guy here takes me on his motorbike further out of town to an apparent brothel with the unlikely name "Family Hotel" but the guy here says no women available (about 11PM). So he drops me off at my hotel (cheap place on the river) and I go next door to a bar, and there’s an oriental guy with two hot women drinking pitchers. One of them keeps smiling at me, and when the guy gets up to take a leak, she runs over and gives me her phone number So I think I’m good for the next day, but somehow, the next day, I manage to lose my phone (with the number) in the reeds around Chaeng Saen Lake. So I gave up on Chaeng Saen and went 30 KM up the river to Mae Sai for the night. But maybe there's some FL possibilities in the riverfront bars.

Mae Sai

This has probably been covered by people on visa runs. Town seems to consist of one wide busy street leading to the border crossing. I didn’t find anything on the main street, and went down the last street on the right before the border to a likely looking MP, but a guy coming out said massage only, but directed me further down the street, then a block left, to some bars with women sitting around. These bars were kind of different: no lady drinks, no sitting around chatting the girls up, no barfines, just pick one and go. 700 B ST, 2500 LT. The LT number made no sense to me but they wouldn’t budge, so I went for ST. It was kind of a ways back to my hotel, but there was a perfectly decent short time place nearby for only 50B. The girl I picked was, truly, the best looking woman I have been with in Thailand, great smile, great body, not too skinny. So naturally she was a dud in bed.

Cha-am

This is a beach town north of Hua Hin. I stayed here after camping in Kaeng Krachan National Park a few nights. From the highway, take the main street east to Cha-am Beach, where there is a T junction. From here there are plenty of hotels north and south, and a few good seafood restaurants. The main bar street is a few hundred yards south of the T. There are about a dozen bars, some with pool tables (and some M Ps). I walked up and down the street once and randomly selected a place. A nice looking girl came over and started giving me a nice back rub, and I‘m thinking I shouldn’t just pick the first girl that comes along, but it really was a nice massage, so WTH. Price was 300 B barfine and 1000B LT. Well, for some reason we just really clicked in bed. She actually woke me up around 3AM for another go. Totally unexpectedly, it was my best night in Thailand.

Krabi

Major disappointment. First tip off should have been, when I put ISG URL into the browser at my hotel’s internet to get some advice, the site was blocked. I walked up the main tourist bar street, but it was strictly tourists/backpackers in the bars. The one hot woman I saw turned out to be a he. He/she had no advice on where to go. I stopped in at the bar at the Thai Hotel, where they had about 30 hot girls taking turns, 3 at a time, singing on a stage. You could have your waitress give the singer a flower garland and a slip of paper with your table number, and they’d come over and drink with you, but no takeout.

I left and walked in to the first MP I came to up the street, which looked to be a "normal" MP, and said I wanted sex. She asked me how much I’d pay, and I said 800 for an hour massage and sex, she countered with 1500, we settled on 1200. She took me past the room with a bunch of pads on the floor to the "VIP room" which was large, with a nice shower. Well, the massage was great, and the sex was better. Afterwards, she just wanted to lie there for 10 minutes, an interesting change from the norm. (She said it had been a couple months.) I went back the next afternoon for a two hour massage, and it was just as good.

That night I found a street with 3 or 4 more traditional FS Mps. (go west from the night market to first main street, north a block or two, and its on the west). Poor massage, mediocre (professional) sex, 1200B. A waste.
