Alternative to hotels
Hi Guys,
Just returned from another wonderful Jakarta trip. However this time instead of staying in a hotel which I regularly do. I stayed in an apartment. While not on the main street and not close to any malls. Staying in an apartment is worth researching for those of you who are regular visitors.
The advantages: less costly than hotels, more privacy.
The disadvantages: maybe a bit further away from main streets, no daily room service (unless you request it) , no 24 hr restaurants.
This time I stayed at Surdirman park apartments, it's close to Shangri-La hotel. For me it was a bit better than staying in a hotel as I can move around without feeling guilty. Although there were security at the apartments the front desk 'walk of shame' I avoided.
Next time I will try staying at the Thamrin residences behind Plaza Indonesia.
You can rent the apartments, daily or weekly, in some apartments not all of them. So some researching has to be done.
But if someone is looking for an alternative choice of accomodations I would recommend thinking about renting an apartment.
BTE, I paid 400, 000 (IDR) per night at the apartment, whereas Ambhara was 660, 000, Le Meridien 970, 000, Merlynn Park 535, 000.
And THe Akmani 635, 000 (all numbers from KAHA) , I have used KAHA extensively in the past so I know the MO.
Just a thought for those who want a bit more privacy. In the past I was reluctant to bring back 2 or more girls to the hotel (yes I know many of you have done it before). But staying at the apartment it was much easier to do.
This was my previous post. I posted this right before the one that you responded to. My apologies for snapping. I did search as you can see. I just was wanting some updated info thats all.
TB
Maybe you should use BATS or Bats or B. A. T. S as keyword for the Shangrilla bar and CJ for the Mulia bar. There are some recent postings on Bats anyway.
I didn't look for CJ.

Thanks for the update! Perhaps if budget is an issue than this motel / inn is a suitable choice for OTR? ;)
I stayed there last December and it is more like a kost. There are 3 floors and the rooms vary in price the higher the floor. It is walking distance to setiabudi one and ambassador mall. It is a good place and clean. Everytime I brought a girl back her I'd was recorded by security. You literally need to walk 10 feet to buy strret food or anything you would get from a warung. Interent and satalite tv are provided as well. The staff did give me a sideways glance everytime I walked in with a girl though. The owner I believe resided in Hk and was never on site. I did not get the impression they were that girl friendly . Especially if a working girl . One other thing . It is located kind of on a back street so taxi drivers can give you the run around and for the first couple days , easy to get lost in all those side streets . Try 68 or 61 karet pedurenan . On a busier street and 2 min walk to ambassador mall where you can easily get a taxi or anything else for that matter .
Care to share the promo/normal rate because I may need a kitchen if I intend on visiting Jakarta soon because of my special diet requirements!
Having said that, I'm enjoying the introductory rate at Citadines on Wahid Hasyim; crappy breakfast but decent room with cooking facilities. I could have cooked better scrambled eggs in the room. But all said and done, it's good value for money. And a good base to bring freebies where no one will see you.
Care to share the promo/normal rate because I may need a kitchen if I intend on visiting Jakarta soon because of my special diet requirements!
First time I went, the promo rate was USD65+ (USD71 nett) second time it was USD82nett. Last couple of trips, I couldn't even get a room; pity, as I have a girl who'd like to swim in their little pool there with me. It's quite a nice setting (for a pool in the middle of a busy area) and not many people go to the pool level. Hmmm. Take note that the pans in the room are Aluminium and NOT non-stick. The cooker is running on electricity and not gas. Otherwise everything is still pretty new. BTW, I believe they've changed it to Morrisey now. Good luck getting a room. They seem to get pretty full for some reason. Last two trips I was in Aryaduta Suites Semanggi and Akmani.

First time
After doing a lot of research, I'm still lost in my trip planning for Indonesia! This is a last minute trip because Bangkok appears to be washed out with all the flooding. So I'm considering mongering on the North side? Perhaps Kota? I've heard good things about Block M as well. Any suggestions on what area I should do my hunting in and what hotels to stay in? I like clean, girl friendly, internet and a good close location to the action with a lot of other things to do on the down time. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Chims!

Hetel and LT
Hi guys,

Hotels in Jakarta are more expensive than ones in Bangkot, in general.
If you want to pickup LT, Blok M area (Southern jakarta) is better than Kota (northern Jakarta)
You can find out hotels when you arrive in Sukarno-Hatta airport. Just go to Hotel information 'Kaha' or 'Indotel' The price is good in general.
There are many hotels in Blok M area.
Hotel Melawei
Golden Boutique Hotel
Hotel Ambara
Hotel Mahakam (and many budget hotel)
For LT, just go to jalan Falatehan after 10 pm. There are many bars but <topgun is most popular with many girls.
Well. 600 thousand rupiah is average for LT. Of course, the girls ask more, one million at first. You need to negotiate.
Hotel bell boy might ask you if you want massage but it is ST.
Hope you enjoy Jakarta trip!
Thanks mate. Going to book Sparks. Will report later.
Ronin500
I dislike Sparks because they are always trying to scam you for damage to the sheets. Also found minibar items that were half empty.
I prefer the Arwana which is nearby. Didn't like Olympic much, or Prinsen.

Hotel prices
Hi folks,
While I live in Indonesia, I have been away for the past 4 months and am getting back to Indonesia this month. While I was in indonesia, I always booked hotel rooms at mulia through rajakamar. Com and at Le Meridien through my starwood points. I found a Chinese Indonesian girl who desires to pick me up in the airport and desires to stay only in mulla and not anywhere. I desire to book the room before I land and I figured out that the various websites are costlier by 30 to 125% off the mulla website prices. And am aware that rajakamar is cheaper by 40% of the mulla website price. Don't want to take any chances on missing out on this girl, who I have been wooing for quite sometime. Cannot ask my company to book the room, since I live in Jakarta and can't take the girl home for obvious reasons. Would you advise that I book the room when I land at the airport or any suggestions to get a good rate.
Any suggestions.
Cheers

I try to figure which hotel is better for my first timer in Jakarta this year 2012. In the past, I went to Bangkok many times to do the mongering and very much know the scene there. One thing is hotel plenty in Bangkok and booking very simple. Jakarta is a total different from Bangkok. I try the Classic hotel and they want the deposit up front for a 4million rp. If I stay 7days. They Don't even take Credit card, only pay VIA. Their bank may be by money transfer bank to bank. I think that is too much hassle just to make a reservation in Classic hotel. Now, I think about Malioboro hotel as an alternate place to stay. They do not have e-mail address on line. So, I need to call and check the room. Did any body have experience about Malioboro? Does hotel reservation by tel. Quite simple and they take credit card charge?
Is malioboro girl friendly? I like the Malo club and seems very fun with a lot of hot girls there.
I appreciate very much in advance for your input.

Pullman Central Park
No reports on this hotel. Maybe its too far from central and north Jakarta, but after research closeness to activities is very important? Any response would be much appreciated.

I don, t classic hotel is a good location if this is your first trip, I recommended you stay at Losakari plaza area like the spark hotel there are many bar and massage place and hotel travel is in that area, there are nothing around classic hotel other than the sauna inside the hotel you can just take a taxi from Losakari only 10 min to Malioboro and stadium.
