Do you mean a geographic or a metaphoric wrong turn? Neither turn is far-fetched. Most flights from Detroit or Eastcoast cities to East Asia pass over Alaska on the Westward leg-because it's relatively direct and avoids the headwinds from the Pacific westerlies. Problem is, no airlines that I know of fly nonstop from Alaska to Asia. You have to fly Alaska to the lower 48 states, and then take a hard right turn to Asia. Expensive. That may change as GDP in Asian countries continues to rise, making American tourism relatively cheap and Alaska a prime destination-to climb mountains, see the breathtaking landscapes, and fish for red (I. E, deteriorated, spawned out) salmon (stereotypic swipe at Asian knowledge of NorthAmerican fish).
As for the metaphor, construction and other oilfield jobs in Alaska in the 1970s paid extremely well. High pay and not enough time off on a weekly basis to get anywhere to spend it (other than brothels in Fairbanks and Anchorage or expensive white powder for the nose) put a lot of money in workers pockets for when they did get a month off. So for these workers taking a sharp right turn toward Asia during time off probably didn't seem like a wrong turn whatsoever.
Sounds like you might have spent some time there yourself did you ever live in fbks? I was there from 73 to 86, maybe we bumped elbows at tommy's elbow room if you did.

Some have had failed marriages or businesses, some affected by the GFC. Some are quite young and earning good money, some are retired or preparing for it.
Some live much closer than the US or EU, so travel is much more affordable.
Heard an annecdote about perceived wealth many years ago. Kerry Packer was sitting at a bar in Vegas and a 30 something year old guy was sitting next to him. Kerry was having a quiet drink. The 30 something yo guy was telling Kerry that he'd made 28million in the Texas oil fields and was incredibly rich. Kerry was a gambler, and was also a multi billionaire publisher. Kerry pulled a coin from his pocket and said "I'll toss you for it." The Texas millionaire stopped bothering him.

My observation has been that Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia have expended rapidly because of two main factors. The first is long term strategic vision. The second has been national investment in education.
Certainly in Malaysia and Singapore, both have been helped by national leaders who created long term strategic vision and then drove them for 30 years.
If anyone wants to gaze into a crystal ball and know what the future of AC will look like due to 'upward pricing pressures' just look at Thailand.
30 years ago the Phils, Vietnam and Thailand were similar in economies. Vietnam and Thailand understood that if they allowed large birth numbers they would not be able to grow economically because of the cost of education, medical care, and also high unemployment rates. Vietnam and Thailand promoted birth control and sex ed. You see what happened to them. They flourished. The Phils under the influence of the Catholic Church has gone downhill, sadly. But it is the huge number of unemployed young that also makes for fertile grounds (so to speak) for ISG visitors. As long as there is this big pool of unemployed there will be the employment that we enjoy, though the price may increase due to increased tourism and demand. If the Phils ever gets its act together (fat farking chance, unfortunately for the people) it would go the way of the other Southeast countries, and the hobby price would climb proportionately.

Just becouse there maybe SOME koreans who are struggling doesn't mean those who do have money don't come.
A KOREAN company is building a $300 million USD golf course / Resort on Clark RIGHT NOW. Do you think they are building that for Filippino's
Koreans with money come for the weekend. Golf is HUGE in Korea, Super Expensive and Hard to get Tee time. Plenty come to mix Golf and Girls. They come with Money to blow cause for them its cheap and they come to have fun.
AC will soon be close to like "Vegas" for Asians. They can Gamble, play Golf and women. With Clark daily flights its easy to get to and cheap compared to other SEA locations. New Condo's being built. They are NOT for the budget minded types.
The area is attracting a more "upscale" type Tourist / monger Period. There is nothing anyone can do to stop the rise in Prices. Its more about the development of the area than any ones spending style.
Enjoy it while you can. It is going to get more expensive. That's REALITY.
I think it's easy for a lot of guys that are more cost conscious to blame other mongers for increased cost. And although that may somewhat influence cost I think other things are more to blame. Although there is economic pressure on most of the world there are a lot of people earning a lot of money and those people are starting to use that money. I live in an upper middle class suburb of a major US metropolitan area. Trust me, there is no economic problem here. The town I'm in has a lot of upscale restaurants and you better have a reservation. You know what? You better have one in the city or you're not eating.
A few miles from me is an upscale mall. And by high end I mean Neiman Marcus, Tiffany's, Coach, and almost all the little boutique stores you'll fin on Rodeo Drive. You want to buy your girlfriend a necklace at Tiffany's you better expect to wait an hour in line during the Christmas season. In the cold. And the parking lts are full or Rovers, Benzes, and Beemers, Porsches and I'm guessing a few exotics. I'm guessing these people with money are in other countries of the world that have wealth. Korea, Japan, Europe, and others.
The people that sell know about this money. They peddle to it. (Korean Golf Course) I was dating a young cutie a few years ago. Hot 23 year old and I was 53. We went to Vegas for New Years and our dinner was over $2500 at the Parisian. Now that's probably the craziest thing I've done. I'm in my 50's have worked hard all my life. I'm at a point in life where if I wanted to I can comfortably retire. My home is paid for. I have no debt. I eat out 90% of the time. I give to charity in many ways. Some weeks I spend $600 for P4P here. Now! I'm not bragging. I'm very grateful for my life BUT! I'm not traveling around the world to some third world country to have fun and let loose then get there to pinch pennies. Not grab a cutie because she's asking $5 more than the established rate. I mean guys. Lets be real. A cup of Starbucks is $5. So yes, the little head is definitely doing the talking but for me it's more about common sense as anything else. I came here to have fun. If she's hot she's mine.
Now inasmuch as this doesn't sit well with everyone it's the lay of the land. It's life. Not everyone can be equal. You know what. I'm a car guy, I have a vintage convertible. There are a lot of other cars that I would like but guess what? I can't afford it. It makes no sense with my budget. But you know what? That doesn't make Jay Leno a jag-off because he has 100's of cars. Hey, I'm happy watching specials about his cars on TV.
So, don't blame your fellow monger, blame it on economic forces that are out of anyones control. You're not going to get Jay to quit buying cars just as you're not going to get me to stop going to Starbucks. I would be sick if I calculated how much I spend there. I'm visiting family in another state and on my smart phone I'm looking at the temperatures in Thailand and the Philippines. It's fucking cold here. I'm going to be there soon and I'm not looking to blow my wad in one night but I'm certainly not going to let 10-20 dollars ruin a night for me.
I used to go to the countries of the FSU and quite honestly I feel that I'm priced out of that market. I'm not on the boards crying about it. I've found a way to get comprable quality here for a little less so why travel? I've done the tourist thing. And it does me no good to bash the guys that are still doing Moscow and Kiev.
Sorry I don't mean to rain on anyones parade, but that's my reality. I don't expect Jay to sell his cars so he and I are equal. It's jsut not how it works.
Simon says. Have fun
You don't have to give me examples of how the rich financial parasites are fucking up the world for the regular Joe. I live in New York so I've been seeing it first hand for decades. Sad to see it spread to Asia now.
Yea Koreans with more money than they need blow their wads just like Americans and Euros in similar positions do. That's my point. It's not about the money. The average Joe in Korea in Japan is worse off now than he was 10 years ago, same as USA. The world is becoming more and more the rich man's oyster and the regular man's shell.

But I think that the crying here about pricing is sometimes out of hand and that too many guys get hammered because they want to live life within their means. The point I was trying to make is that a few mongers that overpay are not the force driving the inflation. So why get in all these flame wars about it?
As far as the financial divide. You're 100% right. But I don't know that this is the forum to discuss those inequities. I read a lot of the Asian forums and you seem very price sensitive. You slam Cambodia because of the pricing. Complaining is not ging to change the realities. As omnipotent as we like o think we are regardless of the level of success we've achieved in life has very little bearing on what we can change around us. That's evident in out politics here in the US and might I say a lot of other places around the world. What makes me thing that guys on the down low (underground) will have much luck in organizing to affect any kind of change. Never happen. The guy with more money is not going to sacrifice his happiness for the betterment of the general population. And you and I both know that if the shoes were reversed we would be the same. Human nature. Just like our desire for thrusting between them sweet smooth Asian thighs.

Fast Eddie 48
I was not speaking about myself per se. I was speaking about vacationers in general. Not everyone is loaded and has 20 weeks paid vacation time like you Fast Eddie. Some people actually have to make sacrifices and save up over time for their vacations. Look around, look around. Most people have never left the city they were born in. And if you think the majority are beneath you because they are not able to pick up and go to AC or any other place on a whim as you may be able to do then you need to wake up and step down from your ivory tower.
I was not always as fortunate as I am now. I was born in the ghetto. I did not always have a car. I had to walk and take public transportation. I watched friends eating packs of ketchup and hot sauce while we were in the university because they did not have money for food. (Some of those same friends are high ranking military officers now. One even works at the White House.) I have been on both sides of the tracks so I am able to sympathize with and understand different types of people. No matter what you have now it could be gone in a flash at any moment. Remember the toes you step on today may be connected to the ass you have to kiss tomorrow. (Coincidence that this is today's comic.)
Even very rich people tend to economize when they come to AC. Some week end millionaires tend to splurge.
Few years ago barfine was 600-800 pesos. Now 1500-3000. It is not necessarily because some people throw lots of money.
AC will be there as long as economy and population keep supplying young girls to the industry. Bars have lots of expenses including raising per diem to employees, increase in rent, electricity, liquor prices etc.
Only those like me who have been going regualarly for the last 20 years or so see the difference. Newbies still think it is a bargain compared to prices they pay at home.

Leknomforme
Right now AC would be called dead, in practically every bar the girls would outnumber guys 4 to 1 if not more but nevertheless the p[rices would remain the same, and given the penalties for sneak out bgiven my limited experience it would seem hard to achieve.
I have on offdays ie days where my libido was low staked out the street waiting for girls comming home from work and there are deinately opportunties, but it confl; icts with my personality as I am impatient and I don't want to pick the left overs just so I can save a bit of money so that seems a hard way of doing things. I also haven't trried the buy a ladies drink and pass on my details and play the number games as I'm a guy that when I want to get alid I will get laid not wait around for when the girls get money desperate, but I was lucky enuff to get passed some details of girls from a fellow member so I will invest a bit of time in that option.
My experiences with girls in AC is that in the 2000-3000 range you would get girls as attractive as girls in EDSA, makati, subic or Cebu for the same or cheaper price.
But one of the activities for me in AC is to bar hop in the perimiter bars ie in the 1200-1500 range trying to find a hidden gem, so far I have bar fined two, one turned out to be a sweet but disspointing star fish, the other had hidden stretchmarks, and I nwas unlucky enuff to bar fine her as her period just started, and even tho they could be technically a runner, the sweet way in which they asked to be released early made it hard for me to be upset, never the less I just gave them 100 taxi rather than a sizable tip.
And hence thats the problem with botom feeding in that whist it possible to find hidden gems most tend to be dissppointments, but then the dissappointment is only 35USD for 4-6hrs company and unrushed sex I can't see why people get so upset about runners. I would rather have a runner leave rather have her share my bad in a bad mood.
So when you compare AC 35 USD for unrushed sex up to a max of 70-80 for a model with a good chance of overnights as most girls who wanted to leave early used the baby as the excuse / reason, compared to vietnam 30usd / 1hr at a local brothel, Thailand soi 6 35usd I hr, Cambodia 30usd 1-2hrs it doesn't make AC looks so bad pricewise.
Speaking of pricing, I'm kinda tired of all the blame being places on the koreans, japanese etc, because in my home turf ie vietnam, its the white guys who are guilty of overpaying, and being the cause of hyper inflation but I would be a fool to blame it on a general racial class. In EVERY racial group tehre are the guys who are the cheap charlies ie try and be cheap to the point of ruining your vacation, guys who are worldly and price savvy, guys who have the money and don't mind paying a bit extra, guys who don't have the money but try and use money to buy the girls attention and finally guys who are stupid with money and who use the excuse because its more expensive in their own country. To me the last two types are the ones least worthy of respect, neverthe less in AC and in Thailand where everything is well exposed, then each to there own.
All I can say is that if anyone has any hidden gems ie places or cities that hasnt be written about, I would suggest that it remain unbroadcasted.
In the end of the day whilst it cannot be denied that your week millionaires / overspenders contribute to the price inflation, but it would be one of many contributing factors, so as one tiny leaf in this current of humanity it it is predicted that in 10yrs time a bar fine will be 4000, then all I need to do is keep ahead of of the price inflation, because thats all one can do, no point about complaining about the stupid majority who will continue to do what they will do, and to be secretive if one was to find any gems.
Guys are getting upset about xyz overpaying, but if for example I take a girl for 1500, then I take her bar hopping, take her to dinner at a italian place take her to the movie and I spend 1000, which is never reported, but if I was to take her to the hotel and we have a relaxing night watching tv and fucking, then I report that I tipped her 1000, then I'd be flamed as being someone who is ruining the market. The girls would rather have a extra tipp than being dragged around to places they don't really enjoy anyway.
My two cents
