The shortest one I can remember was a girl named Priscilla. One year I was in Brazil during Thanksgiving week, she was headed to Chicago the Monday after T-Day. When I returned to Rio for MLK weekend, she was already back in Help! Her marriage lasted a whole 6 weeks! LOL!

It's impossible to say where you will find the girl for you; in Solarium, Centaurus or Barbarellas. You could just as well throw the dice and go randomly to any of those places. Or try Monte Carlo or a privê in Centro. It's all about luck where to find what you are looking for. Hell, you might even be lucky in Balcony (I was and I guess I have high standards too).

Young punks from the Favelas are creating disturbances so they can rob people in the midst of the confusion. Police now have a tent on the beach between Copacabana and Ipanema to deal with the problem. Best advice: avoid the area but if you must venture there keep a close eye and hand on your belongings and be aware of those around you.

These young thugs come out of nowhere and are very brazen. They often travel in packs like wolves. Personal experience is if you be-slap them like you would a friend about to marry a hoe, they will run away like a dog struck with a rolled up newspaper. However, this is not recommended by my Brazilian friends who tell me that the street urchins could just as easily stab you.

That is what one of the beach guys told me back in the 90s. He said the black Brazilians would come out of the favela by the hundreds and just mob the beach. Then they would rob everyone that they saw and run back up in to the favela before the police could do anything about it. He said when you saw the onda negra coming, the only thing you could do was run.

I never heard that expression, but it could be right.
To create a huge arrastão it doesn't need an army of thieves. A bunch of thieves start robbing and grabbing stuff on the beach people will get up in masses and start running away. Then it becomes easy to grab the stuff the people have left.
I think the blame on the arrastoes these days wouldn't be of the people living in the Zona Sul favelas, rather scumbags from Zona Norte.

And THIS is exactly why in 15 years, I have never went swimming in Rio de Janeiro!

Implemented a program to help clean up a body of water in the 90's which cost over 700 million dollars, and there is nothing to show for it. Well. Now I understand how Centaurous Termas stays open for buss. With those insane prices. I wonder how much of those 700 million bucks have been spent on pu*why in Brazil. Just trying to connect the dots. Corruption exists everywhere, but man, Brazilians take it to another level, always at the expense of the common folk. My 2 cents
