Anywhere in Asia is racist vs. whites. I encounter it every time I am there from the families of the women I date down to the restaruants and bars that I go to with or without an Asian girl. But, I'm not in ACwhere it seems the white guy is king. Get outside of AC in the Phils and you are pretty well in need of local talent. Then, the "white" thing starts again.

Funny, but I've lived here almost five years now, traveled fairly extensively around the country, and I've never run into any of the anti-white attitude that you describe. Either I've been extremely lucky or you have been very unlucky. Contrary to your experiences I've found that often there's too much deference paid to whites.

My daughter, who's in her late 20s, visited me for several weeks and we did some touristy things together. Filipino men were always staring but never inappropriate. In fact, White people are the images of beauty that get flashed at them in our movies, so that, unfortunately, they feel sort of an inferiority complex by comparison to White people as though we're an Aryan super race. Do they like our money? Of course, but, believe it or not, some young Pinays even think of us old farts as attractive. Sure, it's sometimes a put on, but not always. I've also talked to a number of attractive young Western women who rode the tightly packed LR trains around Manila and never once got pinched. They wouldn't dare try that in Mexico or Italy.

Filipino's treatment toward me in restaurants and stores was often much more cordial and attentive than toward other Filipinos. I'm not talking about Ermita, or P. Burgos, or near the EDSA complex, which they think of as red light districts, but in the other Metro Manila areas like Quezon City, San Juan, Pasig, or Makati. Is this treatment due to expectations for American-sized tips or an assumption that I was more likely to make nice purchases? Maybe, but even when I didn't buy, I invariably got courteous goodbye greetings. At every establishment where I showed up more than once, by the second or third visit they invariably began to greet me cordially as though I was an old friend. Maybe it was just that I treated them courteously, and this contradicted their stereotypes about wealthy, bossy, inconsiderate Americans. So when I turned out to be a regular guy, it was like I became a "special" regular guy.

It is true that Filipino culture has some distinctive class divisions, and the well-to-dos and Filipinos with higher professional standing (doctors, lawyers, professors, executives) may not always treat the average working stiff Filipino all that respectfully. But I got to mix with both the average stiffs and the well-to-dos and made a point to treat them all as I wanted to be treated. The average stiffs went out of their way to reach out to me and make me feel welcome. I've traveled through much of Europe, and through some of Asia and Central America, and I find Filipinos to be about the most hospitable people I've encountered.

Are there different prices sometimes for Westerners? Yes. Will taxi drivers take advantage of you because they think they can get away with it? Yes. Are there con artists looking to separate you from your money? Yes. But for every one of these there are hotel staff, waiters, and store clerks who are just as likely to give you better service. By the way, any of the yanks on the board visited Paris lately? Sorry, but the anti-white racism has not been my experience in the Philippines.

Great post Skip and I agree with you 100%. Many filipinas are very curious about whites and want to become your friends. In some of the provinces I hang, where I was probably the only white guy for miles, I was treated very well in all situations. Treat them with respect, be humble and good things will happen!

A lot of items what is mentioned in the report "Why I love Filipinas the best, as lovers, playmates and best friends" is a result of two things.

1) The girls you met are poor poor girls and want to do everything to escape from this missery (the best they like is to go out of that country), Foreigners make them a millionair (for as long as you are with them or whem you are so nice to send them money which they will give directly to their family).

2) The local men are bad (drink, don't work, beat the wives) so every foreighner is nicer then they have now.

I met a lot of girls and most are not so nice. If you think on the price level of the PI then most girls "like" a lot of money. Second they will take possesion of you if you see them a few times (they will never let you be alone because they now that other pinay girls are all the same. Out for you (re money)). If you like to know the real pinay then speak to the rich girls in the PI or go once to Dubai. If they have money they don't need you and don't smile to you.

They are verry hard (they should be. They work hard for the money just to give to the no good bothers and single mother because father died of all the Red Horse beer or walked away to a younger Pinay). Insiders say they have a dual (two) heart. They just show the nice heart if they need you.

Last note on Pinay (oy). They live by day (there is no tomorow).

What that means you can imagine. But if you take them home and they have money you surely will divorse the most of them.

I like to fool arround with the girls. But it is so dissapointing that they don't care about the area they are living (all the dirt and polution of cars). In my view Cambodian (Khmer) girls are looking better then Pinay and Cambodian girls are even less demanding. While Thai are more demanding and more Ugly. But the Thai became so because to many foreighners throw arround with to many money. The same counts already in Manila (and Vietnam and Phnom Penh). Remember the average wage in the PI is ca 2$ after 12 hrs working. So it is in oure hands wether we can still have humble lovely Pinay in the future or that we spoil everything after a 2 week holiday.

Please allow me to preface my answer with the following statement; I have thoroughly read both your post and the original post (#1168) and I see merit in both. As I see it, the original post reflects a sunny day and your post portrays a cloudy day. JMHO. I would categorise the original poster as an optimist and you as a pessimist (absolutely no offence meant to you). I will define a pessimist as a person who thinks all women are bad. An optimist is one who hopes they are. Both optimists and pessimists contribute to our society. The optimist invents the aeroplane and the pessimist the parachute.

You have expressed your belief that the girls who work in bars are desperate and want to leave the Philippines by marrying a foreigner. This is not correct and I would challenge you to substantiate your claim. I see you have take something out of context. Again, the optimist sees 95% employment and the pessimist sees 5% unemployment. When you criticise a girl for sending money "to the no good brothers and single mother...." you clearly do not understand the Philippine Culture. Most girls, not just bar girls, have a deep esteem for their families as typical of other Asian cultures. They completely believe that the family comes first, that is,the corner-stone of society is the family unit. In essence, the family establishes society's basic values. Therefore, it follows that Filipinas make excellent mothers/wives/friends and all the good things as expressed by the original poster.

Here you have exaggerated. (an exaggeration is the truth losing its temper). Again, the pessimist in you is showing through. A wise man told me once " you always borrow money from a pessimist as he doesn't expect to be paid back."

Andre, when I read your report I have to respect the fact that English is not your first language and I aways admire people who have the ability to speak more than one language fluently.

We have a live in (24/7) Yaya for our home, 1200 pesos/month salary.
English tutor is gonna be cheap. Ask at the school local to her.

Good points made in your post Max. Andre words like "some", "many", "most", "often", "sometimes" will solve the problem of over-generalizations. As Max points out, over-generalizations can often be proven false.

For example:
The children of a broken family will become involved in crime.
The childeren of a broken family are MORE LIKELY to be involved in crime.

Unfortunately, SOME of the native English speakers here also TEND to overgeneralize.

Wazza i'd like to chime in here & say that in my experience whilst some BG's are career hookers, most are not. Most are girl next door types who through circumstance find themselves doing that job.

Common life story from bar girls is : from a poor family, job of last resort either due to loss of breadwinner in family at early age (typically father) or got knocked up by pinoy guy (long gone) & shamed into taking this work to support the new mouth to feed.

If you don't think girls in this situation don't dream of falling in love with a nice rich foreigner and having a better life you're kidding yourself.

When bar girls look me in the eye & say 'this is not my dream job' I understand where she is coming from in this strictly catholic hypocritical country.

Most of these girls would not be working in the bars unless they absolutely had to due to various financial circumstances but nearly all of them are hoping to hit the jackpot and latch onto a foreigner. That's like winning the lotto there. Anyone who thinks otherwise is really living in denial. Why do you think Filipinas provide such an excellent GFE to someone they just met? It's because every guy that that hooks up with them is a potential winning lottery ticket and they will be on their best behavior and do anything they can to convince you to stay with them longer and (perish the thought) marry them. I'm not complaining or knocking this situation. In fact, it's due to this reality that I prefer the PI to Thailand for the excellent GFE. But for anyone to believe these girls don't have an ulterior motive for "falling in love" with an overweight guy 20 years her senior. Well I have some excellent beach front property in Angles City that I'd like to sell you.

Not only is Sushi's post entirely accurate, but let's not forget that these girls often also feed the entire family with their earnings, and send younger siblings to school.
