I have seen tours to Cotopaxi for 45 dollars. I think they only go there on Thursdays. For Mitad del Mundo I don't know about tours, but I took a bus there which runs along avenida 10 de Agusto. It was very inexpensive-less than a dollar each way.

They will try to charge more, but the rate to ANY hotel in Quito from the airport is an agreed upon 5 dollars. I've had this discussion with cabdrivers a number of times.

If you really want to save a few hundred pennies this is what you do!

Once you exit the Airport head South, make a left to the National section of the Airport, you will see a lot of Ecuadorians crossing to the other side of the road. Why did the Ecuadorian cross the road? To save on cab fare!

Once there Taxis will stop and you ask them if they will turn on the meter for you, and they will Oh Hell No! From the Airport to the Sheraton I paid $2.35 give or take 50 pennies!

I agree with all the guys that hate being ripped off, but I also agree with the guys who say relax your on vacation, a few hundred pennies is not worth getting bent out of shape over, or raising your blood pressure at almost 10,000 feet!

Bound if your Espanol is fluent, you can catch the bus to almost anywhere in Quito, to the center of the World I think it is under a dollar! Hell a ten hour bus ride from Quito to Portoviejo is $8 to $10 bills!

I need to be quick so I'll try to stick to salient points:

-I continue to be impressed by the people. They are similar to Guatemalans in their gentile nature and they seem to lack the anti-American predisposition prevalent in Argentina and Chile.

-Prices for good food harken back to the glory days in BA after the devaluation and before the inflation. I'm not insensitive to the fact that many Argentines suffered during that time, and I speak only from a gringo financial position.

-Enjoyed meeting up with Jaimito on the 2nd evening. I thought the Swiss Hotel looked pretty nice from the lobby and the manager was engaging. I stayed at the Hilton and was much more favorably impressed than Jaimito was during his visit.

-Cafe Rojo was my 6th establishment to visit, or attempt to visit in my short trips to Quito.
+I liked the atmosphere very much. The music was pleasant, the decor subdued and clean, and the space adequate.
+The room in the back was quite spacious and included a king (at least a queen) sized bed, a bathroom, and plenty of room to walk around.
+The quality of girls was pretty good. Of the 20 or so present, at least half were very doable. Two or three were downright hot. About half would due in a crisis.
+Pricing is displayed electronically and there are no hidden fees. No entrada, beers around $2.25, waters around $1.50. I'm sorta' guessing because I always got a water for Jaimito to go with my beer.
+Service was acceptable but not spectacular. I spend 4-8 days in Rio every month where the GFE is the rule rather than the exception, so comparison is difficult, especially in 20 minute intervals. That said, my girl did not shy away from every promised service, although I didn't partake in all of them due to an attempt to upcharge.

-For what it's worth in the big debate, I favor being generous by offering presents and tips when they are least expected, give locals the benefit of doubt when I sense a discrepency, but fight like hell when I know they're ripping me off, especially if I think they're are exploiting my because I'm a gringo.

I often see that Americans feel they have to impress or not be cheap when they go to another country. In most cases trying to be the "big American" only garners disdain, and over time ruins a country for low cost touring/mongering.

As someone who has traveled for 25 years in Latin America, I've seen the real effects of big spending/tipping gringos in Costa Rica. I'm not talking about tipping a chica $5 or $10, but of guys who pay a $10 chica, $100 for a few hours. The rationale, "But I'd pay $300 for the same pussy in Boise, NYC, or Chicago", doesn't wash, though. If you want to turn Quito, Lima or wherever into a place that is full of low quality chicas, asking inflated prices, keep on doing it.

Yes, I feel the same way. If I'm being taken for a ride (in a bad way), it's not nice at all.

I went back a couple days later, and took that chica I was eyeing. I didn't expect much, but she was quite nice. Never a whisper for a tip, but I gave her $5 anyways. Took a few pictures as well.

I asked the bartender about the amount of time, and was told it was 20 minutes, for future reference. Your chica came by and said hi, but I didn't have any interest in her. She did ask about you. :)

Cafe Rojo did have a high percentage of fuckable chicas. However, so did the two $8 places I wrote reports on. Getting a BBBJ wasn't easy, though.

A Google search of "Canadian dollar" reveals: 1 Canadian dollar = 1 US dollar.

Just a forum heads up to all members on this stunning development. Ezinho brought this monetary issue to our attention so, upon much consideration, there will be minor changes going forth in Quito pricing structures.

All subsequent Quito Fuckclub List updates will be priced in Canadian dollars due to this country's spectacular currency appreciation in the last few years (62% since 2002), and its seemingly inevitable future domination of North American markets. The last time the two currencies traded at par was November 1976, some 31 years ago.

Hence forth Quito fichas will probably be getting cheaper for our Canadian members who love pouring maple syrup on their beavers for breakfast, supplemented with healthy slices of back-bacon while watching favorite re-runs of Bob & Doug Mackenzie, pounding back I-am-Canadian beers. Instead of pennies we will be adopting a "loonie" and "twonie" system of pricing up to two decimal places (we will avoid fractions).

Jackson might want to consider changing the pricing rules for all forums worldwide, as some suspect the US dollar is only the first to be conquered by the Canucks. Word on the street is: "the Euro is next, eh."

Hell the price of Ecuador is almost at par with Thailand! The price not the number of women.

I have stayed in Hotels in Quito from $55 to $100 per night and on the Coast from $12 to $25 per night. Before I get nailed, there are a ton of places to stay in Quito for far less, but my ass enjoys just a few creature comforts.

As soon as I resize my damn pics I will post my semi-monger experience in Ecuador.

If you have no problems with altitude sickness 4 or 5 days may be enough time to become acclimated, but I wouldn't try to rush it too much. You could easily spend two weeks visiting all the Chongos.

Tung's guide was extremely helpful to me. I used it as a guidebook for my visits. I was in Quito for almost 2 weeks, and never even got to the South or North brothels. I liked the Touch Me, Casa Roja, and 121 (I think) brothels the most for quantity and quality.
