I do not have an account with HSBC, I just use HSBC'see ATM on occasion using a foreign ATM card. I am not charged the 200php foreign ATM card fee and I can withdraw up to 40000php at once. All in nice neat 1000php bills. The HSBC branch I use is located in Cebu near Ayala.

The fact you can withdraw up to 20000php max is a limit set by your bank whichever that may be.

TIA[/QUOTE]I have three local philippine banking accounts. To get the best possible forex rate I make arraignments and get my black market money changer to meet me at my bank. I withdraw money from my third currency account and exchange it for php on a day of my choosing when the rate is very favorable. Sometimes I will use the black market money changer offered by the bank manager if the rate is higher, often it's lower but once in awhile they will match the rate sometimes not. Very easy process to sit and chat with the bank manager while the counting machines are put to good use. The money stays in the bank, and is only being transferred from one account to the other and I never have the risk of walking around with bundles of cash. The money changer takes that risk and comes with armed guards. I never withdraw money and exchange it at the posted bank rate because it's often 3-6php lower depending on what day of the month, inflow OFW remittance balances and local pay cycles.

The details to opening an account are straight forward but instead of clogging up the AC section with more forex talk, ask on the living in Philippines section.

Something has run amok.) plus the address of my condo. I recall minimum dollar deposit is $200 for most banks, but you can check online. BPI, BDO, and MetroBank are three of the larger ones. You can then wire transfer a sizable dollar sum to the dollar account. BTW, minimum peso deposit for a peso account is p500. You might want to open one of those too, and if the exchange rate works in your favour withdraw dollars, exchange, and deposit for use later.
