There were always a couple of Bluebird / Pukasa taxis nearby but none parked directly in front of the clubs. I just walked up / down to the ends of Jalan Falatehan to find one.

The first night the driver used the meter without being prompted. But the second night, after getting in the car the driver informed me the price would be 200 K, which is outrageous. I already knew it would cost roughly 70 K to travel to North Jakarta so I hopped out and walked to the other end of the jalan and found another Bluebird, who used the meter.

When you take a taxi, make sure it says Bluebird or Pukasa on the side doors. There are taxis from other companies who have painted their cars with the same color scheme as the metered taxis to lure the unsuspecting customer, so always check the door.

As for safety, one night I walked a 360 degree oval around Jalan Falatehan and the neighboring 3 streets in pretty much an inebriated stupor because I wanted to flirt a little with the streetwalkers. Not one of my smartest decisions but I encountered no problems. In fact, the people I ran across at 3 am were pretty darned friendly and not outwardly menacing at all. But I don't plan on being so bold again.

By the way, the streetwalkers were asking for 300K for a BJ and 500K for short time. None of them were any superior in looks to some of the available girls in MyBar.

My last piece of advice: If you're going to Blok M, inform the driver you are going to Jalan Falatehan. Write it down on a piece of paper and show it to the driver. Don't just tell him you are going to the Blok M bars, like I did on my second night. He dropped me off in the much larger and nicer Japanese bar area of Blok M, which is a ways away from Falatehan. Bluebird taxis are actually allowed to pick people up and allowed to wait at the end of the street with no issues. 10 years ago, those taxis were terrified to infringe on the taxi mafia's turf. So that is one thing about Felatehan that has changed for the better. There also isn't the throng of little kids and old lady beggars in the street anymore. The most famous beggar of them all passed away a few years ago. Her name was Miriam and she was the old lady who used to pretend that she couldn't walk. She'd sit there in the street and ask for money and if someone didn't give her any, she'd say "I kill you tomorrow!" or "I bet your dick is too small to satisfy any woman". One time she was just outside the doorway of the beloved and since closed Lintas Melawai bar, sitting in the street and begging for money pretending that her legs were crippled. The girl I was with was going to give her money and I told the girl "don't give her anything, she's rude and a pain in the ass". Miriam immediately jumped up and ran after me telling me she was going to kill me. She was damn fast too! Luckily I was wearing tennis shoes that night or she would have caught me. Such a sweety. I always stayed at Hotel Falatehan on the same street as Top Gun et al. I spent many late nights (3 am) browsing the neighborhood, after my CJ's / BAT'S date left, and never once felt unsafe.

Sure, you get heckled a lot from the bystanders, but nothing more than that. I was 59 at the time; 6'1" and 250 lbs American.

Taxis were always problematic in that area with ridiculous rates. I always walked a few blocks to the Blok M mall and caught a taxi from there.

I return for 3 weeks in April 2018 and am truly excited.

Google Maps shows two locations when you search Malio-- one on North Petojo near the Lion Air tower (and across from Harris Vertu hotel, which is how I found it from a previous report), and one called "MALIOBORO" on West Rawa. Arrive at Malio Hotel and you can tell it's the spot because there are a ton of carts outside selling vitamin V and condoms, plus our favorite sketchy taxi drivers.

I enter through the most obvious entrance, go through a metal detector, receive a wristband, and then directed to elevators but no other instruction. I ended up on the 4th floor and got lost among the rooms before being directed back to the club area, which is two levels (I started on level 3, the upper level with the large booths and balcony where you can see down to the stage and lower level). There were several groups of girls in the booths, some with guys some without, and guys scattered around the balcony watching the dancers below.

I took a few minutes to take it all in, and figure out what was going on. It wasn't obvious that there was anything available as the girls for the most part looked bored and were just smoking / drinking on the upper level. Below, there were 5-6 dancers all wearing full dresses (kind of like what you might wear to the office) doing their best to look as bored as possible. A few started doing choreographed dances together later and seemed to have more fun.

I went down to the lower level, and had to flag down a server to get a beer. I saw what seemed to be mamasans wearing blazers with purses, but I wasn't sure. After about 45 min or so, a girl approached me who was pretty cute and who I would have taken upstairs, but she got greedy with the lady drinks and started ordering them without my approval, and tried to get me to order for her friend too. Full of great information. Disappointed to hear that about Malio. Going to be in the Harris Vertu for a week in February, will try my hand at Malio of course but 3,380,000 rp is ridiculous. Seems going there and getting numbers is the best way to utilize that facility.

It seems Malio has toned down its awesomeness a lot. Great reports on this thread like #11831 and #11731 had given me great hopes. There are no nude dancers and even in balcony booths these dancers would not open their tops.

I was quoted 1. 2 million or something for a regular girl, I don't remember exactly. Even Uzbek girls will go for less than 2 million. A waiter had told me upstairs of Malio club you could get girls for 400 k, 900 k and 1. 3 mil. But for the life of me I could not figure out where this Malio bar was at 1 am. I was told it's closed when I went upstairs.
