1. Sheik Zayed Road (10 mins from York)
2. Bur Dubai (5 mins from York)
3. Downtown (walking distance from York.
People generally mix up the last two ones. Both of them are very close to York / Karama Hotel. The one on Sheik Zayed is a 20-25AED taxi ride away. All three are friendly for visitors (passport required).
There are two other Sheraton properties in the neighbourhood. But they definitely are further away maybe 20-25 mins and cost more (30-40AED).
1. Sheraton Creek. Basically on the other side of the creek. Nice hotel, but a bit far away.
2. Sheraton Deira. Basically in Deira / town. A bit oldish but far away.
All two are friendly for visitors (passport required).
Generally the FP Sheraton's on Bur Dubai / Downtown + Sheraton Deira are cheapest in price while the PF Sheraton are also newer looking. Considering location / price go for the FP Sheraton.
My long overdue Dubai trip happened a few days back and took time out to see how things have changed. Here is the quick update:
1. First place that I could visit was the old famed TGIT in Bur Dubai during evening time. The initial entry fee of AED 35 could give me one drink and a sight of many PRC, perhaps Euthopeans and surprise. Surprise. Pakistanis. Never before had I seen the last variety. They were past their prime but are now becoming available openly in Dubai meat market. Had small chats with few PRCs and Pakis. Your observation is quite right. I did the mistake of walking with her almost. And there were few men who I think were watching us. We had walked almost together into that small building. And straight into the same elevator (there was only one). The man apparently pressed the bell of the flat door which was fitted with a camera so from inside they can see who is outside. As to your point of how the man knew which floor or flat we went, it could be someone who knew exactly where PRC ladies stayed. The plot was very much ripe for someone to come up and press a bell, especially if there is non-Chinese man with a pretty Chinese lady. When the senior PRC lady told me that someone may have followed us. And has pressed a bell. He look like a local. I'll admit, I'd get lulled into not specifying "pay after" IN THE BAR because there were no problems for so long, then some problem does crop up when back home with her, so it's lesson RE-LEARNED.
