Baht Bus debate: pretty mundane stuff but quite informative!
The baht buses are okay in the daytime, but traveling from Jomtien to Pattaya at night is no fun.
Second Road is a mess right now, jammed with traffic.
I live in Jomtien. I have had no problem traveling from Jomtien to Central Pattaya at night. In fact I did it last night in order to complete some personal errands. I returned to Jomtien on the Baht Bus without problem.
Hey Explorer, where do you actually live in Thailand that allows you to know so much about current conditions on the Baht Bus lines in running to and from Jomtien? I know you do not live in Jomtien. Unless it is a Jomtien in an alternate universe. Some guys do not even know you have to get on the Baht Bus on Second Road in order to take you there if you are in Pattaya proper.
The Commander is chilling and chatting about things
Hi guys,
I'm very interested in visiting Thailand and possibly living here due to the extreme cheap cost of living and great quality of life.
Lots of different places to live in Thailand. You chose the amount you want to pay for the lifestyle you want. All costs are relative.
The long time expats like myself who have lived in Pattaya for a long time, stay in areas, such as Jomtien, Pratamnak, or on the dark side. It's away from all the chaos and when you want to go to the bars, it's only a 10 minute bolt away. Pratamanak for example is very quiet.
Chances are you are going to pay much to rent or buy in Pratamanak then Central Pattaya. You are going to pay much less in North Pattaya than you will in Central Pattaya.
However, one big issue for me is that the women aren't thick. I'm going to be completely honest: I'm a guy that loves women with thick backsides and curves (such as Latinas). Is it possible at all for me to find that in Thailand? I would really like to visit here but I wish the women were thick. Please lmk if there are any and how I can go about finding them.
Everything has trade offs. If you life is ruled by your dick then you do not even need to ask that question. You know where you need to be: Caribbean, South America or on the African Continent. I you are coming here for the thin waist, curvy hips, big ass look the ONLY place you are going to find it on Thai girls is in the gym. The girls working out in my gym have the best bodies I have seen in Pattaya since I got here. Full Stop!
I have seen then else where, few and far between. Now don't get it twisted, Thai girls can have ass. They can have curves they are just not going to that dramatic look that you and I go for. If you are looking all the factors over all, personally I think Thailand stacks up pretty well against other places. I have outlined my observations below:
But one aspect is safety concerns. In Thailand you are pretty damn safe, period. But in South America you have to keep your head on a swivel.
Agreed! I spent a few years the Dominican Republic (the bulk of my posts were about there until I became a "new poster" in the Pattaya Reports thread and a visitor to Thailand.
Couple of nights ago I was hungry. So I walked to 7-11 at 2 AM to buy one of those pre-prepared meals that you just heat up in the microwave. I would not be able to do that anywhere where I lived in the Dominican Republic nor would they have had a colmado open at 2 AM in the morning with the same options. Now, if I wanted to hop in a vehicle there were plenty of restaurants open 20-hours a day that I could have driven to. But that is point to point. Many robberies occur with two individuals on a moto. One time, a pair on a moto parked passed me and pulled in front of me. Second individual pointed a gun at me. I hit my bright lights and sped up. Driver decided to get out of my way. Just another evening in the Dominican Republic. Keep your head on a swivel and your wits about you. I was never robed over the years I lived there at a point of a gun. Many workmen robbed me of the years through shoddy workmanship.
I prefer the culture in Thailand and Cambodia to the culture in South American countries..

That's primarily because I'm from the US, and have grown up and have been constantly exposed to Spanish culture forever. It's not interesting to me, nor particularly unique. And I speak New York Spanglish too.
Here is prime example of how different each individual is from each tribe. I too grew up in the (Dis) United States of America less than hour from the USA / Mexico border. Been doing currency conversions in my head since I was a teenager. I like Mexican girls.
For someone to say, "I have had exposure to Spanish Culture" is idiotic. Spanish is a language. Latin America Culture is reality. In fact, I can tell you for a fact that the individual with a background in Latin Culture that Nyezhov was exposed to on the east coast of the (Dis) United States of America are completely different than the individuals with Latin American culture I found myself associated with in the west coast of the (Dis) United States of America.
With so many cultures in Latin American to paint them all with a broad brush as some like to do just show how small minded some people all. Each country in Latin America has it's own unique culture, ways of doing things and cuisine. The exact same way as the countries of Asia. It is ok to have a preferences..
I don't like the culture in the (Dis) United State of America. I prefer both Latin American Culture and Asian Culture. But I am also smart enough to understand that each country and both Latin American and Asia is very different. I am certain as I move around to different countries in Asia I will find ones that I like and other ones that I don't like.
Bringing this back to Thailand. I have spoken to people who have told the following cities are the best places in Thailand: Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Hua Hin. As individuals, we all have our preferences. The different between me and many other posters ISG is do not feel the need to talk down about the preferences and choices of others. There is no best place in the world. Only ones that have greater pluses or minuses for each of us.
I find the girls of the Dominican Republic to be sexier (in general) to the ones found in Colombia or Thailand. But the girls of Thailand make up for their lack of ass (in general) and curvy bodies with a "drop their panties for you when you want" attitude and the quality of care they give you as a human being. Now, for the record, the girls of the Dominican Republic will also drop their panties whenever you desire, but these days days they do not take care of you like they used to do. Too much influence from the (Dis) United States of America.
Yes, now I am talking like everyone else that the old days were better. They were better in the Dominican Republic. But right now, this very minute there is a guy arriving in the Dominican Republic for the first time and they love it. There are also veterans arriving who have been going there for 20 years and have told me: "There is no place like it".
Now, I am that guy just arriving in Thailand and saying "What the Fuck?" this place is great. Think I can hang out here for a while. So, when someone tells me it used to be so much better back in the day, I just smile. Because it is pretty good for me right here and right now. So far, as I look at all the pluses and minuses of living in Thailand I see a lot more upside than downside. There is still so much room for growth that a lot of upside is possible.
What I like most about Pattaya (I have not been another place in Thailand) is that you are in complete control of how much money you spend or don't. I can live a life that is comfortable to me at a price point that does not require me to budget based on the money I have available to spend. I don't care if pussy cost 1000,1500, 2000 in the local currency, I can pay it. I don't worry about others are paying. I am happy I can find girls who I am attracted to at those prices, all while living a life where I can eat every meal out if I want, get a massage everyday, if I want, never have to drive a vehicle if I don't want and have a comfortable room with insanely low (at least for me) fixed costs. I can eat all I like, drink all I like, smoke all I like, fuck all I like. What exactly there is not to like? I have not been able to figure it out. I am sure I will at some point, I just have not yet.
Taking the Baht Bus to and from Jomtien
I live on Thappraya Road, so I take the baht buses coming from Jomtien.
So are you reporting on the trouble you are having with the Baht Bus getting on them on Thappraya Road?
Because I catch the Baht buses coming from Jomtien and have absolutely no problems (in the day or at night) and I am in Pattaya right now during high season. Although I do appreciate your candor that you are not speaking from current knowledge but from past experiences. I am speaking about the current situation.
Enjoy your trip to Brazil!
