I went to Apo (Apu?) market, just for something to do. Its about 10 minutes from the McDonalds at end of Fields in a trike. All sorts of interesting market things to see and buy, DVDs are ok, I got some DC shoes too. As someone else mentioned there are girls there who look interested, but I think its just because I am not Filipino, didn't get any offers! I did think about a day trip to Subic bay too but didn t quite get round to it. Maybe next time! Enjoy!

i also like how the philippine authorities pretty much had to be dragged along on this operation. it is pure hipocracy for the americans to try to force their view or morality, their view of right or wrong, their view of what is just, on the rest of the world. personally i will be glad when america declines and china rises. instead of trying to create an american world maybe we will have a more worldly america. i see the rise of china as a good in many ways; china will only be concerned with assuring its hegemony and will not try to force their moral views on the rest of the world as the americans always try to do.

prostitution is a women's right to choose, they chose it for economic reasons for sure. but, it is a women's right to choose and they should have the right to choose that profession rather it's for temporary needs a long term profession or an occasional profession to help ends meet. they should have the right to choose that profession without the fear of abuse prosecution or humiliation. did anyone even bother to ask the prostitute at the bar if they wanted saving, no they didn't. the only person father shay cullen and these moral crusaders are saving are their own ngo donations and budgets.

i applaud father shay cullen's effort to crack down on under-age prostitution. i definitely understand that the philippines has a severe problem with poverty. i'll admit that i do not have all the answers about "fixing" the underlying problems there, but i do know that selling children in the sex trade is not the answer.

China will not care if prostitution is legal illegal or what the age of consent is so long as they maintain economic dominance. the real issue here, however, is the attack on prostitution in general. it is a women's right to choose and she should be able to choose that profession without fear of abuse, harassment, prosecution, or humiliation. organizations such as the one featured are not doing these women any good they are just furthering their plight and desperation. women choose this profession for economic reasons and they should be applauded for their entrepreneurial drive. they come predominantly from poor backgrounds with little assets and little options. they take what asset they have and they capitalize on it while they still have their looks. if they are smart they will get an education while they are making money, buy property, or a business. if the father truly wanted to help these women he would be working to make this profession legal so they could get protection from the authorities and not be abused by the authorities.

take the secret service scandal in columbia, i am not going to go into the whole can of worms, but the basic premise to be taken from this is that prostitution is legal there and when there was a dispute over money what did she do, she went to the police. in places where it is illegal there would be very little she could do. if the moral crusaders truly wanted to help these women they would be working for its legalization and respect and protection for these women. in this case the father did nothing but return these women to abject rural poverty with little options. the father is helping no one, no one was saved.

i too am glad that arthur benjamin's exploiting **** children has been shut down. the guy was so bold and brazen about it that he bragged about it to an undercover reporter. how dumb is that? he thought he was so untouchable that he eagerly bragged to someone he hardly knew (the undercover reporter) that he's banging and prostituting **** girls. the problem with guys like benjamin is that they have no low limit to their 'age of consent. some might argue that the arrest of benjamin is an attempt by americans 'to dictate the age of consent to the world' and pushing 'their hypocafull views of morality and standards on the rest of the world. ' this is narrow sighted and an overly broad statement which implies that the people and governments of canada, europe, japan, korea, philippines, australia, colombia, mexico, etc are not as opposed to the sexual exploitation of **** children as americans.

this was not an american government lead investigation. father shay is irish. he was working with an australian film crew. the lead investigation was done by the filipino national bureau of investigation. the american ice was brought in because benjamin is a us citizen which makes him subject to arrest by the us government. the case against benjamin was about his sexual exploitation of **** girls. nothing more. nothing less. it has nothing to do with americans trying 'to dictate the age of the consent to the world. ' it was the filipino government enforcing their laws on the age of consent; not shutting down legal age prostitution.
