Save a Bar Fine. Buy a Book
Happy New Year to you and all fellow members at ISG. In between your time with various hotties and recounting your explots, in the quieter moments may I recommend some light reading. Lawrence Osborne's 'Bangkok Days' really is the definitive and realistic view of life in Thailand. Which I can associate with in my time living here. Enjoy.
Yup. Thanks for the book suggestion. I read a lot. I found a good interview with your recommended author. He hits a a few close nerves in his explanation of his incentive to write about Bangkok.

An excerpt from this interview:
"Loneliness is my subject here, I think, far more than the sex trade. But the sex trade is about loneliness, too. It's part of the same thing. I don't think these guys who live there are obsessed with sex, because I don't think human beings are obsessed with sex in that way. We're all obsessed with sex, but not to the point where we just determine our whole life around it. I think that's a myth. It's more complicated than that. It has to do with how you deal with solitude, which gets worse as you get older. When you're young, in your 20s, you don't worry so much about loneliness. But in your 40s and 50s and 60s, you really worry about it. It starts to become a kind of critical thing."
Yet, living in Bangkok as an ex-pat, at least some people, is so much more than trolling for sex, for . Alex Kerr does a good job covering this in 'Bangkok Found: Reflections on the City. ' I was especially impressed how he addresses the constant change that becomes part of everyday life here.
An excerpt from the book:
"As usual, when people start talking about Thailand, you run into more and more complications, and it ends up in a muddle. Bangkok is like a 'thep phanom, ' a smiling angel with hands clasped in prayer above – and twirling leaves and vines below.
(and) Everything is negotiable."
Some quick questions from a potential traveller
Folks.
I aplogise in advance if I am not posting this in correct section.
I have been to Bangkok before but was with family so could not partake any action.
I plan to travel through BKK very soon and would be greatful if someone can please answer some of the following questions.
1. What do you recommend for someone who has no more than 30 hours available in BKK, has a hotel room but is not a bar kind of guy and does not drink etc? Where do I go to get "partners" for ST and LT?
2. How much (approx) am I looking to spend for LT (min. 5 hours) and ST (min. 1 hour)?
3. Do upscale hotels always charge an extra fee when one walks back with a "lady friend" during day or night?
4. Do most of girls in bars etc speak reasonable english so that one can discuss one's expected services such as anal etc?
5. Which bar (s) is best to quickly go in, take a pick and get going?
5. Are there any places which offer good, private, safe incalls? I don't want something like a busy brothal, but something that is safe and comparable to what we get in the west for incalls?
Thanks again for any imput.
