Having said this, I usually give, when service is very good to excellent, between 300 and 500 baht as a tip on top of the 2300 baht standard fee for two hours (800 to the shop, 1500 to the girl). But I'm only one data point and will be interested to see what others do.

It used to be that tipping on top of the 2300 baht was truly optional without any expectation there would be a tip; I suspect this is only partially true these days, but am not sure about this.

That is sort of my thinking. I gave her 500 and feel good about it, largely because even by the standards of the old days, at least those I recall, Benz exceeded expectations. I just wish they did it the other way so that, as should be the case, a poor performer is penalized rather than one who merely meets expectations gets extra.

Although I expect good service I never push a gal to do anything she does not want to or is not comfortable doing. If that day she does not want to do A+, I won't even frown. No problem. I am always nice, respectful, and try to keep the mood light and funny. My Thai is plenty good enough to joke around and have fun. And I do my best to create a relaxed and fun environment. All in all I am a pretty easy customer.

Some dudes tip, some don't. I am convinced that it does not get you better service. But, it make some guys feel better. More power to them. It's their jing. Of course if you tip once that will always be expected. Then when you have a subpar session with that gal she might still expect a tip.

I don't pay up front either. Since I have been a regular for 8 plus years I am never asked to pay first in any of the PSE places. Also, I don't ever specify how long a sesh I will book. I am always "leew te. " "It depends. " That way if it is not going well or if I am not so motivated I can do 60 instead of 90 min.
