I am quite familiar with places east of Jinji Lake and 'The Pants' building. There is a special massage place that if you kinda of tell them what you are looking and look non-native for the right price you are in. But I typically don't to them unless I am looking for a normal massage or foot massage. My best luck has been through WeChat and also hanging out in the lobby of the hotel. They seem to like to hang out in the hotel lobbies certain nights of the week. I have even had them just walk up behind me and follow me up the elevator.

Back in Shanghai after a few months in the States. Not much new to add to the previous reports about crackdown, lack of options, etc. Even some of my previous standards have gone silent on WeChat, etc. It appears the crackdown is part of a larger societal tightening including social credit scores for citizen, fingerprint scans for "foreigners" upon arrival, VPN blockage financial credit tightening, etc. While history says that things will loosen up again, or reappear in other formats, channel etc in the mongering area, it sure has taken the fun out of Shanghai for the time being. I will continue to look for good options and report back on any keepers.

Do you find that you need good Chinese language skills in Suzhou to meet girls? Which hotels do you have the best luck in meeting lobby girls? I will be at the Intercontinental, so due east of Jinji. Although not perfect you can get the jest of what they are saying and they also can get the jest of what you want. After we do meet most of them have a translator app on their phone where you can speak and it will translate back, I also have one. That and facial expressions work great and also hand gestures, LOL.

The hotel is good, also take some walks around the lake and smile and try and start up conversations with girls that smile back and not nose into their phone.

No massage place is not in the Pants building or the huge mall below, typically they are on side streets. The ideal place are buildings that have KTV and a massage place adjacent to them or on the same floor.

Adding insult to injury, they wanted nearly 1800. Politely declined and left. The 4 they offered I "might" do as freebies, but not for that price, protruding tummies, ugly faces, etc. These girls would have been 400-500 a few years ago.

They wechatted me after I left and offered a different location near Shanghai Railway Station. We'll see.

It's really hit and miss these days with all the internet marketing. But the trends seem to have sauna coming back with addition of many serve out of the apartments. I haven't tried too many of them. It may be good to start a Shanghai wechat group so we can share the info? I got a few good contacts we can share.

Just returned to Miami from a week long biz trip to Shanghai. Despite best efforts no good quality, affordable, safe fun to be found. Amazing change in atmosphere in a few months time. I guess only an authoritarian government can effectively enforce not only a crackdown, but instill a sense of fear into normally adventurous mongers and providers. GFE saunas gone underground, massage seems mostly legit, bar girls drink rip offs only, etc. Finding good fun is hit and miss at best. Prices rival USA. Maybe the intense summer heat and humidity even at night has everyone in a funk and we can hope for better things in the Fall, but for now, the playground is closed unless you want to overpay and under enjoy.

What is the status of the BJ "spa" on Changshou road in Jingan? Any reports?

It seems like they are possibly the best option right now. I'm just wondering if taking Judy's or Manhattan girls back to the hotel is still reasonably safe.
