The phone number is also a kind of insurance. If a customer were to do something stupid, they could use the knowledge of the phone number and details on their government issued ID to track them down and punish them.

Such a high barrier to entry obviously prevents sex tourism, but they could care less because they have more than enough customers in country. Therefore, the only way for those not living in Korea to access these places would be if a Korean friend took you along as his plus one. Otherwise, you're totally out of luck.

Keep in mind that these services are extremely difficult for even non-Korean residents to access.

Regarding your other question, DCinside contains some info about the sex industry written in Korean. In one of my past reports, I posted a link to a particularly informative article I found on their site.

Concerning RLDs, note that few reports have been written up recently. This is because the biggest and best RLDs (Suwon, 588, and Cheonho) have closed and the remaining ones are under intense pressure from government, land developers, and civic groups. YDP, Hooker Hill, and Miari are mere shadows of what they used to be.

As far as massage shops go, they are everywhere. Whether they're genuine massage shops or fronts for prostitution can be hard to establish. Lucky for you, some have been written about on this forum. Use the search function to see what you can find, but keep in mind that no matter where you go, YMMV.

Try as you might, you won't find hyugetels anywhere. They're all hidden within residential buildings. Imagine a long concrete corridor. Imagine that the corridor has 20 to 30 doors leading to tiny studio apartments and that the building has 15 identical floors. Behind two of the doors there are women, working in so-called Hyugetels, waiting for a phone operator to send men to their studio apartment. As a civilian, you would never know they existed, and as a tourist, no matter how hard you try, you simply won't have access to these places because the phone operators won't deal with you.

Found that article in one of your past posts and had a good read. DCInside is a maze even to someone who has a decent grasp of korean. Some forums are used regularly and others have dust collecting from years of disuse. Do you know if there's particular slang folks use to talk about this or a specific forum where this is discussed? The article you mentioned was randomly in the southeast asia part altho it discusses korean domestic use. I guess maybe sex tourism discussion is just higher in that forum and it bleeds over to this?

Also, do you know if the eSim + phone numbers you can only get at the airport would suffice for the sites on opgani etc? That seems to be the only way to get a korean phone number as a visitor without an ARC, but I'm not sure if that'll be some sort of strange number that IDs you as a visitor that agencies will filter out.

Otherwise I'the have to borrow other people's phones or go with someone basically LOL.

I did run across articles and such on the Barber Shops, but everything is from 2019 or earlier. Are these still around? Can a white guy walk in and get service? It actually sound like exactly what I want if possible.

I'd say the acceptance rate for whites before the pandemic was 70-80%. I haven't been in enough post-pandemic to get a feel for whether or not we're less accepted now, which is possible. It's definitely a case of YMMV. I'd say 60% of the time, you're going to get a HJ, and the other 40% of the time FS. If they charge 70-80, it's probably the former and if it's 100+, probably the latter, but I've gotten FS for 80. The women tend to be older, but sometimes they have younger gals in there too. I think if you go in the morning hours, you're more likely to get a younger one and in the peak hours, you're going to get the oldest one. Some want to do BBFS, so you may want to bring your own hat. I will report back that I've had good success getting a couple hyugatels and kiss rooms from opgani12 to send me their line-ups and start the reservation process. It's got to be 100% in Korean and I'm starting to pick up the lingo they use. About 75% of them asked me to call though to confirm which is where I hit a roadblock as I don't have a Korean phone but hoping to pick up a burner tomorrow.

I am heading to seoul at the end of June and wondering if anyone is willing to team up and find some nice places. DM me if you are interested.

By the way, you're not simply facing a phone issue. Getting a hold of a Korean phone number is certainly one major hurdle, but the higher mountain to climb is the requirement to provide a photo or scan of an ID card.

Most Hyugetels and OPs want to confirm their customers' identities and this means that new customers are asked to verify who they are by providing valid photo ID. I've had to provide ID twice, which suggests that there are at least two major organizations handling these types of businesses in Seoul and that they each use their own customer database.

Regarding your situation as a non-resident tourist, the issue is whether they will accept your ID. From first hand experience, I know that they accept Korean government issued ID, but I have no idea whether they would accept a passport or ID from another country. I don't believe anyone has posted a report confirming that they have successfully booked an appointment using ID issued outside Korea. This means that you're essentially in uncharted territory, and that any future report you write would be invaluable.

I'm sure a lot of people on this forum would greatly benefit from reading about your upcoming experience. Whether you're able to book an appointment from an online listing or not, please write up a report. I, for one, would be curious to know which types of providers you contacted (Hyugetel, OP, Gunma etc.), what troubles you faced, how far you got in the process, and whether the experience was worth all the hassle.

Providing ID is a pretty steep bar, I'm surprised how thorough this verification is and how willing customers are for this. Is there a verification process that agencies use instead? Ie give the number of two other agencies who can vouch for you as a reasonable customer? This is what other agencies in the US do sometimes. Then again, with a centralized DB service it seems like most agencies use, would that even be necessary?

For the IDs you provided, did you provide your ARC card then? Seems like you are a foreigner and yet have Korea-issued ID so seems like that's the only option really? Apologies if I'm prying.

Will certainly report back on any future endeavors but it may be a while from now. I will be doing research on my own around this centralized DB as this is interesting to me for.

A few years back, some places were OK with a picture of a business card (provided it included one's name and cell phone number). Some may still be OK with this, but I think many realized that police could easily make fake business cards, and so started to request official papers instead.

However, as far as I know, this entire process may have changed in the past few years. I provided my ID a long time ago, so I can't say I know for certain that it's done the same exact way now. It's possible that the process of vetting first time customers is different, however, I assume that it wouldn't have changed much because the need to vet customers is as high as ever.

In Korea, the databases are the customer verification process. From what I've read, these databases contain a load of customer information, and this has done away with the need for customers to provide referrals. Instead businesses just query the database to see where customers have been. Apparently, these databases contain a record of visits, course preferences, amounts paid, etc. I believe that the DCinside article also mentioned that the files contain information about customers' attitude, behaviour, or habits as well, I. E. , stinky, overweight, cums quickly, etc.

I am indeed a foreigner and, yes, I provided my ARC. I understand that most people wouldn't want to do this, but it's the only way, and so when in Rome, do as the Romans do.

I'm fairly certain that even foreigners who can read enough Korean to navigate the listings and then speak Korean well enough to call the business operators would be too cautious to provide ID most of the time. This is undoubtedly why so few foreigners use these services.

So on MR I see a few Bella's now. Which one is the recommended one?
