For a very interesting tour of Sao Paolo, take a ride on the main street leading to Universidad do Sao Paolo.

More than anything, I find it annoying and counter intuitive that you can't get one at the airport. It's the first thing that a tourist needs to do.

Even outside the airport, it's not simple. I went to the Vivo store with my passport 4 times yesterday and I still have issues with my phone. I got to go back and see if they can fix it. Right now, it's only my internet that's not working. But I can't Uber around without it. I might look into GoogleFi as Lalabo mentioned.

As for the currency exchange, I don't recall the exchange rate being mentioned regarding the airport. 5:1 exchange rate at the mall was decent, so I lost $10 from that mistake at the airport. I don't think I really regret it. I didn't need the cash, but you never know what emergency you'd run into. I've read the post regarding using Schwab. And I'll get around to it, probably by the end of the year. But I don't think it's much of an issue. The phone problem was / is the biggest hurdle right now.

I used to do this many years ago and then T-Mobile switched to unlimited data plans while traveling for like $10 month so I would use that. Now, I have a dual sim phone so I just purchase an eSim thru an app that gives me high speed data use for my trips.

I would like to compare which would be the cheaper and most importantly, the easier option.

The T-mobile plan that I have had for the last many years includes unlimited data while traveling, free calls and texts between USA, Canada, and Mexico. Free calls over wifi. I pay $70 including taxes. It has been close to 10 years that I was able to ditch my Brazilian SIM because of T-mobile.

Philippines and Dominican Republic (Ban Reservas, the other bank will fuck you) are the best that I have seen and next to those is Thailand. Any other airport, just use the ATM. It only takes 2 minutes these days to set up an account online with Schwab. My mom and dad hardly travel, but I set up an account for both of them to use when they need.

Claro is the only provider with 5 G but is spotty, 30 R for 6 gigs of data and whatsapp data is free and free calls if you use their prefix dialing 021.

Last time I was in a T-Mobile store was when I got my XS which was close to three years ago. I think I changed my plan back then. I should go back in and see what they offer now. I do remember that I have the higher speed data while traveling which is what the extra $10 might be for.

I didn't care to get a new Schwab account as I don't travel much yet. I plan on traveling much more starting the end of this year or early next year so I'll definitely open one before then. For those without a Schwab account, I recommend exchanging currency close to home before your trip to Brazil.

The phone plan I got was $2 (activation) and $10 for data + minutes. I don't know how much data / minutes. Communication was very difficult, even with google translate. It is definitely a cheap option if I can get it to work. I tried T-Mobile for a brief time a couple years ago, but they didn't have very good coverage many places (close by work, home, golf courses), so I've been with Verizon for many years.

Staying in Bourbon has been a huge blessing. Being able to walk around everywhere even though my phone's internet's not working has made the biggest difference. Thank you for suggesting this hotel!

The open area of Scandallo is as mentioned, the restaurant and outdoor patio only, and everything is packed in there. Maybe 50-70 girls. You can even pay for a high speed day pass for like $5 per day.
