There are several reasons why people send money.

One of the main reasons is many people are content with one girl while visiting. One of my girls said one guy comes there once a year for a month and wants her to stay with him. He fucks her only once a week. He gives her more than 30000 pesos besides gifts. He does not take her anywhere. He goes out by himself only. She just has to stay in the rented apartment. Expect commercial exchange rates and minimal fees. This makes a big difference to small transfers where traditional bank's high fees take a proportionally big chunk of your cash and on large transfers where the better FX rate kicks in.

Transferwise is widely used but you can Google for the many other options.

It's not rare to hear of guys transferring to a sister or aunts account. Alternatively, any additional layer of convenience is going to cost extra fees.

I'd also agree with the poster that said if you are going to send money and it's a small amount (which I hope it is) is a dollar or two really going to make a difference?

Western Union is suppose to be immediate. I had to wait from 15 minutes to 2 days. Go figure.

US money center banks with international wire transfer with no correspondence bank in between can take 1 hour to weeks.

First avoid all banks. Their fees and on going fees will eat on both ends and you will have very little money left. US name banks are no better for those who remember Citi pulling out of PI.

Brokerages usually are better. The only way to find out is to open an account and try several test transfers.

As a general rule, the US is the pits when it comes to sending outbound currency. Including the fees.

The Philippines use mostly Cebuanna or Palawan. Just show ID, phone number and pickup code and pick up cash. Like Western Union but cheaper. In general, keep it simple, look at the net value received. WU gets you the fees and FX and their net cash value received is very low.

Since this is basically a one shot deal for the original poster, I suggest he just befriends a pinay sending money home at western union and buy her a cup of coffee. He might know by the end of coffee if the money was picked up. The ethnic mostly Muslim changers probably are the best value.
