Secret K (Hongdae Kiss Bang)
I am not sure what the official name of this storied Kiss Bang in Hongdae is (the one near L7 Hotel, which has shifted locations a few times), but the sign on the outside says "Date" on the top," "Secret" (written in hangeul) below, followed by "K" in a very stylized font.
Anyway, for the more cut and dry directions: you can exit Hongik University Station (Line 2) at exit 9, and walk straight until you are at the Apple store. Then, turn right and cross the street. At the end of the block there will be a vibrant yellow "Mega" coffee shop. Just before that is the place in question. It's pretty obvious from the style of the sign. The establishment is on the lower level.
As others have mentioned, it is on a pretty busy street (with the coffee shop next door and a bus stop right in front). But if you just walk in like you know what you are doing, no one will pay attention. Koreans are 99% concerned with themselves.
After walking down a short flight of stairs, I reached the main door. It had a hand written sign in Korean, which I didn't feel like scrutinizing over. I just tried to open the door twice and within five seconds it was unlocked.
Inside I encountered a young man at the desk. I should say upfront that I am American (Caucasian), mid-30's, and I can speak limited Korean. I just immediately asked him in Korean if a one hour slot was possible and he quoted what I expected based on reports: 90,000 won. With that settled, he gestured to the restroom where there are disposable toothbrush packs and a very used tube of toothpaste.
One thing I did, which might make some difference, is bring my own Listerine bottle (there is no mouthwash in the bathroom. Only once you get into the room). The desk person is the first to see you when you come out of the restroom, and for a foreigner, carrying it at least subtly indicates that you know the score, and are clean and hygienic.
After that ritual, I was ushered by the same man into a room where I would wait for about 5 minutes. I had seen some pictures of Kiss Bang rooms on this forum and those usually had an uncomfortable looking couch as the main feature. To my surprise, this tiny room was taken up mostly by a pleather bed clearly meant to fit two people. There was a station aside it affixed with mouthwash, wet wipes, etc.
I had been expecting the worse in terms of the service that would be made available, the quality of the girl, and everything else, but my outlook began to shift when I saw the bed.
