There's a huge problem in Colombia with domestic violence, no doubt exacerbated by the difficulty of a woman in a difficult economic situation escaping the domestic situation. But I haven't read anything about trafficking, nor the government linking it with hooking, nor it wanting to stop hooking.

So when you read here about a guy paying for a hooker that he knows in Medellin to come see him in Cartagena, Mexico, or anywhere else, he could well be arrested for sex trafficking if the proper authorities know about it.

I'm certainly no lawyer, and much less so a Colombian one, but the CDC page, fwiw, states that trafficking requires threats, force, or coercion. I'm not sure that a person-to-person invitation to travel to engage in commercial sex meets that definition, does it? And, if so, then maybe even paying for a taxi for the girl does?

All this shit is based off the Mann Act in the USA, which was put in place over 100 years ago, before airplanes were a common mode of travel. As crazy as it is, the act makes an assumption that the person was coerced or forced. Remember, anytime you see some hooker joint get busted the story is always that someone made them do it.
