This is rich, how does a big tipper ruin your fun? If he tips and you are against tipping then just don't tip. Also not sure how you know if "no one" expects you to tip since you have not spoken to everyone. Tipping is always one of the never ending topics on the BKK thread with many lectures like this one. After all is said, nothing will change, people will do what they want to do with their money as they should and you should do what you want with yours.
All true. But that doesn't change the fact that is not right to over-tip. Phordphan has indicated what is right, then if one want to be and look stupid to these people, feel free.

Yet again

Phordphan has indicated what is right, then if one want to be and look stupid to these people, feel free.
What I tip and you tip does not matter a damn. Because nearly 100 percent of punters have never heard of ISG and will tip what they think right.
Even ISG members are not consistent; I tip on the high side for excellent / above average service (be it restaurants or WGs) and on the low side if the service does not meet my expectations.
Thank god we no longer have all this on paper. The amount of printed rubbish would de-forest Finland.

Everyone tips not just Americans think about what you are saying?
If you don't tip outside of the Bar fine how are you going to get it on with girls and where are all these reports coming from if one doesn't tip? No wonder so many Go Go's are asking for payment up front? What next don't give my spare change to the lady holding her child begging for money.

Tips
The only tip I give working girls is the purple one my jizz blasts out of. I give deductions. Waiters I give about 10 baht per 130 I spend and the subway technicians get 6 of my baht because I live there and not trying to eat a bacon, lettuce, tomato, and pubic hair sandwiches. Taxi drivers I give a higher percentage.

Horse Sh*t
Fine. You are importing your country tipping standards into another. Call it "Imperialistic Cultural Stupidity", quite typical for in certain people from certain places.
This has nothing to do with "Imperialistic Cultural Stupidity" as you rudely call my approach to tipping.
Irrespective of my, equally rudely implied, background I, as an individual can determine what I tip and to whom and for what.
I repeat too that ISG has a totally minimal effect on the market, as do your opinions.

The point you are missing is that I don't care about what you do and I did not even mention "effects to the markets".
The point you're making across, is that for you, your own habits and believings take precedence to adapting to local customs. And that is a form of cultural imperialism.
At one point one girl was texting while holding a vibrator against my balls and the other was pushing her chest against my face and telling some story to the first. I kind of lost my interest.
I think at this point you casually ram your manhood up the backside of the girl from the 'wrong' side of the line, while dialing up a mate on your cellphone and inquiring about some sports score.
It's true, the Eden and DD girls can be a bit of a challenge because they're so used to getting away with their standard procedures. But if you make it clear to them that you're expecting more, and then really take control, most of them can rise to the occasion.
No offense but I would be ashamed to recommend someone to tip 20 baht. Talk about the utmost disrespect. Is the lady going to wipe her bowel movement with that 20 baht.
Better to tip nothing than 20 baht.
What's wrong with tipping 20 baht? If I get an hour massage for 100 baht and tip 20 baht that is 20%. And if I get one of those happy hour beers for 55 baht then 20 baht tip is 36%.
The point you're making across, is that for you, your own habits and believings take precedence to adapting to local customs. And that is a form of cultural imperialism.
If you read carefully what I said you would not have this hang-up about 'cultural imperialism. ' I tip what I want, over and under, based on my experience of the local customs and culture.
I do not import the US habit of tipping 15-20% nor the Australian custom of not tipping.
So back in your box unless you have a constructive comment to make.
Better to tip nothing than 20 baht.
It'd be a bit strange to hand a masseuse B20, but it's an absolutely standard tip at restaurants and bars, and usually about right for taxis too.
To all american (USA) people here and everywhere in Thailand,
Slight change of subject. Over 19 million people visited Thailand in 2011, 684k of them were from the USA. That's only 3. 5% of the tourists.

Better to tip nothing than 20 baht.
If you'd get out of mom's basement and actually travel around the country you might learn something.
In that particular case I was with a friend in Chiang Mai. It was a local massage shop frequented by locals. I followed her lead. Paid for the massage and a bit extra.

LBM
In Thailand and other places the money paid to the lady is a "tip." In Mexico it's a "donation." Both are just euphemisms for their fee, as the payment is not optional. A genuine tip, aka gratuity, would be over and above the amount agreed upon.
And, yes, never give your spare change to the lady holding a kid. It's not her kid. If you were to watch most of them over a period of time you'd see the kid changes every few months. The money goes to support some yaa-baa addict or some other nefarious Fagin. If some beggar is hungry, offer to buy them some food. That'll weed out the scammers real quick.
Ha. Perfect comment. Having been screamed at by one or two." Honey, I'm not from your country so how would I know that the US$ 10/20 tip I left wasnt adequate" conversations that have occurred in various cities in Cleveland, Denver San Francisco and Honolulu.
Followed up by " Yes you did indeed read me the specials and yes, you did enquire if everything was ok ". But do tell, was there any other part of your job that you did in a way that merited more than a 10% add on?". Of course all this spoken with ones finest English accent.
The problem in the US is that Uncle Sam has a microscope rammed up everybody's ass looking for "income."
Used to be that tips were just that. A reward for service above and beyond the call. Then some genius figured out that too many scofflaw waitresses were getting away with unclaimed income. So, now waitstaff are taxed on their gross sales. The kind and benevolent IRS assumes they'll be tipped something like 8% of their gross sales during a day and they levy income tax accordingly. If one doesn't tip the waiter actually loses money on the deal, which is grossly unfair to them unless they really suck at their job.
Yet another item in the long litany of why the founding fathers made the income tax unconstitutional.
