Anyone who doesn't have their head up their ass knows that these prices are low to attract customers and that the lady is most certainly relying on the tips as her primary income.

I go to a 100bt shop too, but I tip the lady 100bt. That is $6 total for one hour of heaven. The lady gets the majority of that money which is as it should be. Meanwhile $6 is close to nothing in the larger scale of things. As long as the ladies can make a decent living off tips, the base price will remain low.

Mr. E was kind enough to meet me a couple trips ago and took me around on his motorbike to visit 3 soapies, Soi 6, and a couple other places. If we all had his "take it or leave it" attitude and mentality it would all be good in Pattaya. The price is the price because supply outweighs demand.

I just made my plans to return on August 20. I hope to see Mr. E & others again!

At all. Ever. So Mr E came in saying that he actually does tip, modestly, and so what?

This quibble has been going on since I first logged on to ISG more than ten years ago, and it is particularly vehement in the LOS threads for some reason (as are most things, but that's a discussion for another day). Nobody is going to change anybody's behavior, at least not in this regard, so why engage in this discussion? It's a waste of time, bandwidth and energy, IMHO.

From now on, I will keep my sanctimonious bullshit views on this topic to myself, and it would be really nice if others (on both sides of this so-called debate) would do the same. I've always been a dreamer, but I think this dream is DOA.

I'm generally in agreement. This is a boring topic that people are going to fight over forever. Personally, I'm going to spend my money how I damn well please and that includes how much I tip.

However, I do find it helpful to understand local tipping customs and that includes Bangkok's sex industry. I can put up with the juvenile rants and name calling. I expect to read a range of recommended tips from too little to too much. It's up to me to decide what I think is fair in each case.

I am mindful that some guys have to work hard to stretch their funds and if they are expats living in Bangkok I don't begrudge them for tipping like locals. If you're a tourist I think you should budget a fair amount for tips and not try to stretch your vacation budget by short-changing local service providers, be they sex workers or chamber maids. If one is fortunate enough to be financially secure and able to enjoy some of life's better things I believe a generous tip is fair. I'm fortunate enough to be able to stay in 5-star hotels when I travel. So I might leave THB100 for the maid who cleans my room, and if I notice the next day she puts in little extra effort to make my room extra nice I might give her THB150. I build $3-5 per day into my budget for lodging to cover these tips. That's 2% or less of the cost of my room. Why do I do this? Years ago I was staying in a Best Western in northwest Iowa on business. Everyday I left the maid $2. After a few days as I was walking down the hall she stopped my and verified that I was the guest in the room that was leaving her a tip everyday. She then gave me one of the most heart-felt thanks I have ever received. She said it was rare for someone to leave her a tip and that for her the extra $2 a day was not a small deal; but she explained even more importantly it made her feel good about her work knowing someone noticed and cared.

I believe an appropriate tip that reflects local customs, quality of service and economic realities, for you and the service provider is only right.

Just over a year ago I used this forum to prepare for my maiden voyage to Pattaya. I reported on my trip too.

Since then this forum has more or less become an argue center for trolls complaining about Pattaya and people responding to it.

I love ISG. One of the really strong points in here for me is no tolerance for Ladyboys people. Besides that there are some very seasoned mongers in here that can give a lot of good advice.

A year ago I went on this forum and read great trip reports and advice. Today it's almost all about arguing about tipping and other ridiculous shit!

People who have never even been to Pattaya talk shit about the place!

OK here is my positive bite.

I will be going there on this Friday for 2 weeks. I can't wait! I love it there! There are great places all over. Visit Soi 6 places like Night Wish or Sky bar. Both are exclusive girl places with the best hosts ever. Free food, party atmosphere etc.

Go to LK Metro, Go to go go's on WS. It's all about you. If you are a boring negative asshole then you reap what you sow!

The girl in my bed last night was young, pretty and very affectionate. I have known her for a while and she has never asked for more than 1000bht LT (and would probably accept less). For what it's worth I would be embarrassed to pay her only 1000 baht, and I have my own remuneration rate I aim to apply to all girls, no matter their looks or age.

It's why I largely stopped using this forum. There is another forum that breaks it's subjects down into threads, so that issues like 'tipping' can be easily ignored.

Anyway, my 10 days in Pattaya are coming to an end soon, and despite the rain, the low season feel, and the roadworks on Beach Road, it has been one of the best yet. Enough of the doom-mongers! :)

Sadly, I arrive a few hours after you leave, it seems. I was actually thinking of maybe dropping by Pattaya for one night or so. Other than my massive work commitments in BKK, the problem is that there is potential for violence if I run into the wrong girl. She was a Bacarra dancer when I saw her last, and we were hot and heavy for a while before I decided I needed my own space. If she sees me snooping around her girlfriends' nether regions, she may just lose it. That's a risk I might tolerate for a night or so, but that's it. I don't even know if she is still working at Bacarra (no way of finding out) , but still.

So you might have some places to recommend? That bar outside Happy Agogo sounds fun, in a lonely kind of way.
