Still no curfews in town. Doesn't look like it right now but can change any minute if the protests are going violent again.

Rio is open, I called them and all is fine. So I guess all other clubs open as well as usual.

Right now there is a big OSCE ministerial event, so big hotels are all packed with poiticians and traffic must be like hell due the official corteges.

And of course due to the demonstration the traffic at all in the city center is more than worse.

I fly tomorrow to Kiev if my cold is not getting worse, so will let know soon more about it.

I decided to go ahead with a preplanned trip to Kiev as the protests seemed to be quite peaceful in the last few days. I also checked with some contacts in Kiev and they told me that the protests (and any likely trouble consequentially) are focused in 2 locations in the center. The rest of the city is fine. I was told to stay away from Maidan (Independence Square) and parts of Kreschatik near the square, so I booked an apartment on Basseina near Arena City. So far so good. Everything on this side of town seems normal and peaceful. Lets hope it stays that way!

I don't know how the bars and clubs will be, but will go out tonight and let everyone know.

What is happening in Kiev? Still protests? I talked with girls. They say all ok. Doesn't matter I already bought my ticket and booked a flat on baseina prospekt. I have blacckberry phone which operator I need to buy for internet access of (BIS)? Last time I stay a flat at kreshatc but all street there was a internet blackout for 2 days and I used roaming service to translate message. I paid 200$ for this only in 2 days. Now I found a company in Kiev ent a cellphone daily. I use my local simcard with this phone and buy a ukrain simcard probably MCT for blackberry internet access.

It's all cool in Kiev. The protests are peaceful and almost a concert / party atmosphere. There are a lot of police around but they are keeping their distance and not interfering with the protests. The epicenter for the protests is Maidan (Independence Square) but most of Kreschatik is blocked. However, pretty easy to get around that. I would not recommend staying at a flat near Kreschatik (it's noisy, road blocked off, and mobile data services shutdown in a few block radius) , but everywhere else is normal.

All bars and clubs are open and with normal crowds. I found Buddha Bar and D'Lux to be not as full as usual. With regular or working girls, but most other places were packed and happening on Friday and Saturday night, especially Bar Sky and Decadence.

So, as of tonight, I would say its safe to come to Kiev. No issues whatsoever. And the usual fun to be had.

Of course, with Yanukovich now back in the country, the risk is that he might try to shut down the protest in some way or another. Including enforcing curfew, but every local person I've talked to doesn't think that will happen. Yanukovich is likely to let the protests lose steam in the cold. Any forced action by the government is likely to backfire.

Today was very normal and peaceful, but there are reports of thousands more troops being called into Kiev from elsewhere and that Yanukovich may confront protesters with force. Tomorrow's meeting with opposition party and protest leaders will be key. Please watch the news carefully for what may happen in the next few days. BBC's coverage has been pretty accurate on what's going on with the protests. Though the vast majority of the city has been completely normal.
