M1,
The bus you took which I did once by mistake most likely was the local one that stops often and goes through route 34 the old Chon Buri route. The Bell bus from the airport is no more than 2 hours tops to the station at Pattaya Nua, the bus I take from inside BKK Ekamai is around 2. 5 if it has to makes stops going through Chon Buri, Lam Chambang, Siricha and up Sukhumvit.
LBM
Quite possibly so, LBM. It was about 5 years ago, and I haven't done it since. I often spend £20 for a taxi to get half way across London, so I think 1000 baht for 90 minutes is good value.

Bell bus

Bit slower than a taxi but pretty ok.
Bus dropped off at bus Station in Pattaya and then changed to mini bus with hotel drop off.
On the way back picked up at hotel by minibus. Moved to a coach in the bus station. Airport drop off.
Think 230 thb each way. If timing suits its pretty good.
Not really. That was the total door-to-door elapsed time:
Taxi from hotel to bus station in BKK.
Buy ticket and wait for bus.
Bus journey to Pattaya at about 80 kph, with several stops, including one long comfort stop.
Arrive at bus station in Pattaya.
Hire baht bus to take me to hotel.
Hotel was off WS, so baht bus couldn't get too close. Walk remaining distance to hotel dragging suitcase.
Nowadays:
Taxi from hotel to hotel.
Er, that's it.
That's my experience as well. Sure, if you only measure the time between getting on the bus and getting off the bus, it's much less. But that's not what counts, it's door-to-door time that's important. And for me, it's a pain in the ass to move my luggage at each stage.
One thing that's not always taken into consideration for the taxi drivers is the annoying stop to get fuel. With all the LPG and CNG vehicles, they claim they have to stop outside of Pattaya. This adds 15 to 20 minutes to the trip.
During my last trip from Pattaya to DMK, the driver went waaaay out of the way to get fuel near BKK. It is annoying as well, but I'd still rather that that take the bus.

I set aside the money to make sure once I get my bags which is 2 large full of stuff for the year I can't be bother with taking the bus. If I do which I have done before I have to pay another 200 baht to get me from the station to my place. Now I just go down to the taxi stand pay the 1500 and I'm off and in Pattaya in 1 1/2 tops. Like they say it is a individual choice and time is money and when I'm back got to spend some money that night to unwind and relax after I take my long nap?
When I go to the states that is when I take the Bell bus, coming back my arrival by the time I get out of immigration I always miss the bus a noon, not about to wait another 2 hours.

And the other annoying thing is when you hire a taxi at the airport, and after 5 minutes he explains that actually his friend will take you the rest of the way. Not usually a problem, but last trip we had to swap cars standing in the middle of the expressway, on the painted 'island' where the road splits in two. Scary.
It does indeed suck when they do that. They usually go to that parking lot/office to swap off. It only takes all of 5 minutes though. Last week we got into a nice comfortable mini SUV at the airport with the air conditioner feeling good. Then went to swap off into a freaking Camry.

Just arrived Pattaya
Arrived Pattaya last night. Exhausted. Set up my taxi online for 1000 baht. Once in the airport got taxi-jacked. Not a terrible experience but the driver had no clue where to go, and cost was 1400 baht. It was 4:30 am Japan time (2:30 Pattaya time) when arrived, and after the six hour flight really out of it. Little leg room, and Delta now charges extra for an exit row seat. Progress, go figure. This time staying right in South Pattaya. On the way to Walking Street met this one gal."Hi. I love you." "You want short time?"."You want 2000 baht? Hahahahhahahaahahahahaha." Walking Street was LOADED with gals. Why the heck would any, any sane person would pay bar fines, when there are just so so many gals avail. Usually I never pay over 800, 900 for a beauty, but was just so tired and didn't care. All caution to the wind and decided to go 1000.
Next gals wanted 1500."I love you 1000 baht." If they thought about it, just walked away. Should be a no brainer. Within 15/20 minutes found gal who offered 1000. Easy. Name: "One" and she's been in Pattaya for a year. From Issan. Lives in Jontiem. 30 years and had a kid. Had a Vit C hard on and it would not go away. Did her countless positions, and she was up to everything. Her ass was just so sexy, and nice small fit stomach. She offered me her ass for an extra 500 be. Pass. We were probably at it for 45 minutes. I had "sexy movies" prepared on my PC if needed, and she was up for them, but never got around to it. Damn she was strong. And I am proud to say that Little Popper was absolutely a monster in the sack. Completely nice, unhurried, sensual banging.
She offered LT at 2000 but I not only felt it bit high, but her attitude, though outstanding slightly materialistic. Damn could she phuk. Puzzy tasted wonderful too. She was a gal who I had a good feeling about, and would contact again. She gave me her number, and off she went. Was going to take her picture, but since I just arrived did not even know if my cell even had a charge. It did, worked fine and even told me I had 224 baht on it. However, I could not send a text message cause it wanted more money since "expired".
Sigh. Go figure.

Had this happen one time and never again. Now I stick strictly with Mr. T. Never has let me down yet. 1000 bt to / from BKK or 1200 bt to / from DMK.

More than one person and start to consider a private taxi.

I refused. The van was ok but I didn't want to be on a trip with endless pickups and dropoffs.
I pointed at the taxi I came in. The then offered me a volvo which I took as it was midnite already.

Mr. E,
I take it there are no veterans, everyone pays their dues regardless of how much some brag it is a continuous process?
I use to and still from time to time I do when I don't have lots of stuff with me. I use to haul all my stuff upstairs wait at the end and usually two things happens. The taxi guy see a guy with 2 large bags and look at me like a big lolipop? And starts to tell me this and that? Then when I do get one and I'm loading a cop comes up and ask me what I'm doing? Meantime I thinking who needs all this B. S. I just want to get back to Pat and drop my pants.
So now I just budget a few hundred baht more pay the 1500 which I consider includes the toll and tip. 1500 flat. When I don't have lots of stuff I don't mine upstairs.

Go Go Review
it was one of these evenings when they roast the pork near the stairs and serve sausages in heaven above. shared a drink with one of the owners, lets call him mr. tennis and was introduced to mr. sobbin, owner of a go-go just across. had never noticed it, with mr. sobbin acknowledging its small size and limited business. gave it a peep a bit past 1am, its called the gentlemen's club. it had this dark, red ambiance, with these scarface pacino sofa's, beers are sincerely priced and they serve peanuts (love it with my whiskey). they have a place upstairs for private stuff, will check next time and update.
came across this creamy girl on the pole, a bit on the old side but delicious. continued watching her and the shift ended, the girls do a quick round giving the usual hellos to the customers who have no company. a young girl came and sat with me. she has limited english and a cherubic face. i was getting bored holding on to the whiskey glass and her fine legs looked like a good alternative, so ordered her a drink and asked for a translator. she was barely 22 from buriram, dusky and very new to the scene. without getting into the usual details of what she do, what she like etc, decided to bar-fine her.
she turned out to be a sweet delight, expressive and innocent to every touch, kiss. lots of foreplay, dfk. turned her over and gave her one of my tongue massages. two positions and i was done. requested her is she could stay a bit longer, for another round and encountered same language issues which were solved by displaying some currency notes, her face lit up and she picks a 500 baht note. so opened up a few beers, she drank only coke (still not spoilt) and we were ready for round 2, heaven!
damage: 1, 500 + 500 + 500 bar fine

Thanks
Since this question has arisen several times of recent and there are no gentlemen providing any update, I presume the works on our beloved Beach Road should be complete by October, or if you like, certainly by the arrival of high season; of this I am confident. Been home for a month now and the works were nearing three quarters done end July, when I sadly left for home.
Of our freelancer darlings, enough should be about. I would doubt the works would effect the nightly turnouts, they have to earn a living. No work, no rent.

I figure the construction on Beach Road is less than 1 month from completion. It's funny though because what I noticed about the new lane at the north end around Soi 6 is that it was being used more for parking than anything elae. Not to worry, there are tons of freelancers around. Most are across the street from the construction. Those whose area has traditionally been where the completed parts are, have already settled into their new homes.
