as far as the scams being talked about i must admit it is a big concern with me. in the past i have been beaten for cash, and had a ring stolen, and one time in mde was drugged (no more having any drinks with a girl in my room ). all things considered i now fear most of all these scams where the girl has a police partner. to face the prospect of jail, and a big ransom to get out of the trouble is terrible. sure you can be careful, and all that, but if it is a outright setup then all your precautions will be in vain. i think if this is the new trend in the dr then i will hunt elsewhere.

It was not heard to find really great girls. It is a buyers market. I pulled one of the best girls ever out of Lou's Shark Bar. There are always a couple of girls in there. He does an excellent job of screening out the scammers and drama queens.

After skipping it the last several trips, I stayed at the New Garden. It was all that you would expect out of a hotel in Sosua. The guard was professional at night, and they had a bartender who was available to get you a drink when you got back. The girls that were available on site seemed better than in the past, but I did not try any of them out.

I agree that everyone needs to be cautious in Sosua, especially people who are new to this. On the other hand, I think people tend to over think the process. You are on vacation, so you should have a good time. Spot a girl you think it cute and offer to buy her a drink. By the end of the drink, you will have a good judgement on her. After you have bought a hand full of girls drinks, you are going to know which one you like best. Unless she is a real stunner, she will probably still be around.

My last four thoughts:

1. The TL is trying to go a new direction. That is apparent with their signs pushing sushi, salmon, and dozens of other expensive food items.

2. The pizza place right across the street from the TL has great pizza. It is cheap, and no one bothers you there.

3. I think it is great if you want to drink high-end liquor, but it is not necessary to pick up girls. The girls are not into you, because you are cool. They are motivated by money. I cannot imagine a local girl turning down a Presidente or Cuba libre. But it such girl exists down there, I want to avoid her.

4. I think your chances of getting into trouble are a lot higher if you are drunk out of your mind. There are so many people that are in that condition on a typical evening, that people (girls) who want to cause trouble avoid all the less intoxicated people. Again, these are just my opinions.

If you're on a budget then they also have some basic rooms with optional A / C too. I've never stayed in them, but on my next trip I'm planning on staying at the condo across the street. Even if you don't stay there, it's a good place to wander into for a drink. A Presidente is $RD100 at Passions, $RD150 in Classicos, $RD70 in Rumba Bar.

I buy servicio de Ron (bottle service) if drinking alcohol, a 375ml Barcelo Anejo 20oz coke + ice is like $RD 225 Pesos + TIP in Rumba. (four nice drinks)

I think a Bottle of Goose + mixers is RD$3500 in Classicos. Too rich for my tastes, but split a few ways is the way to go. DO NOT RUN A TAB there!!!

Not suggesting you eat at any of these places, but the menus give you a general idea of the price structure, depending on your taste in food. I'm not big on Pasions or Clasicos so I don't know the drink prices well. I think the prices at Rumba are decent if you drink beer.

First time poster here so.

Ray and Sue's place, the Britannia, has all day breakfasts (for those of us that like to start our day late) and the prices are more than reasonable for the strip.

All the food, all the time, is great and we eat there probably 50% of the time we're there.

The Jolly Roger food is very hit and miss, I find.

The tapas place across the street is not bad either but has weird hours and never seems to be open when you're hungry.

Just talking Clisante food now, not the rest of town.

Heading back in late Dec, early Jan for a couple of months.

Haven't decided where to stay after Jenny took us for a ride last time so any recommendations gratefully accepted.

- For food, I like Vache when it's quiet, The pirate restaurant or Toro. Good food for 400 a meal.

- The farmacy near those restaurants does sell La Pela (cials 20) for 50 pesos.

- Passion really has better girls than CMP.

- Businesses seem to be having a hard time here, maybe why some girls are getting crazy.

I read the price was about 15$ to 20$, don't know if it's still the price.
