Even more absurd were the people asking for tips for HAVING DONE NOTHING. A woman in the changing room asked me for the tip on the way out, even though I'd never seen here before (on the way in). Bartender wanted a tip. Bathroom guy wanted a tip. Woman at reception wanted a tip. I told her I work hard every day from 8. 30 am to 9 pm, and nobody gave me a Christmas tip. And that I was broke after paying my doormen, maid, and the doormen at my company. She said, aw, here you go and handed me are $1. 00. I handed it back and said "here's your tip. ".***

Worst of all: bottle of sparkling water, are $10.

I was joking with the cab driver on the way out that basically you can fuck in Centro just for the are $140 entrada.

Going all the way back to when the rate was almost 4/1, I used to tell my fellow gringos to stop tipping everyone in the termas! I would constantly say "Do you see the brazilians tipping? I downloaded Bubba Boy's guide and am curious if his info from a couple of years ago is still accurate. Since I'll be here for a while, I'd like to find some affordable termas with good service. My preference is athletic, early 20's, dark skin.

Appreciate any advice or suggestions.

You could try 4 x4 before 6 pm which I think is (or used to be) their cut-off for getting a discount on the rooms.

Since you said Termas, that's what I'd suggest.

Copa has plenty of clinicas and massagems, but they cost more than the ones in Centro and close early. Copa has the beach, scenery, restaurants and probably better apartments. I'll either do Ipa (just because I like it there), or pick a hotel that's strategically located between the beaches / tourist zones and Centro. I don't think I want to be right in Centro, but I definitely want to be closer than where Copa would put me. Some of my favorite termas are in Centro, and the next time around I intend to work in some of the privees. Those in Centro that get good reviews. Not worth it to me to go to Tijuca. Problem is, I'm a night owl who likes to get going mid to late afternoon and keep on going until the wee hours of the morning most nights when on vacation. I'm going to have to change that pattern if I'm going to be able to get up in good time and enjoy the privees. And believe me. I will do what it takes! I want to be there before the lunch crowd hits! Working some privees into my "rotation" will be good because that will add something new and exciting to my Rio adventures. I thank Sperto for reporting on the privees over the years and telling us what a bargain they are. It's been hard in the past for me to get to them though because I see myself as a "night" monger. That's going to change.
