That page hasn't been updated to reflect that Congress has passed legislation saying passports will not be required until at least June 2009.
HOWEVER, the border stations are still going to require a driver's license AND a birth certificate or other proof of citizenship beginning January 31, 2008. Or you can use your passport.
On Monday, State Department and DHS announced its design for the new border card -- a special wallet sized passport -- that can be used at the land/sea crossings only. Details on how to get the card will be available this spring.

This card will be more convenient than the full sized passport and can help you protect your passport from getting damaged when you're traveling to the Mexican/Canadian border. However, it will probably take several months to get the program started so using your birth certificate or a regular starting in February will probably be the best.
Then again, I'm betting the birth certificate requirement will be suspended/canceled.

Well I passed(walked) through the border January 1st at about 1:30am and wasn't asked for a passport. The only thing the guys asked me what my citizenship was so I handed him my permanent resident card. He scanned it, handed it back and I walked through. No need for a passport. No one else in line showed one either.

Thanx! I knew about the Drivers' License and Birth Certificate thing, but it sounded like maybe they'd done away with that, too.
I really don't wanna lug around a certified copy of my BC. Sheesh! I guess I'll just go w/the passport until they get their sh*t together.

I just crossed La Linea last night with only a Drivers License and the border guard hardly blinked. I had my passport with me just in case, but looks like it's true about additional proof being in limbo.
Also, previously in December I asked a border guard if an old passport would work, and he said that'd be fine too. Nice to know since if you lose it, it's not a big deal, whereas if you lose a valid one.

I just got back from TJ and here is what I saw and heard.
One of the biggest mistakes I made was doing the stroll around the block looking for the cutest one. That took me forever to try to decide. So if I saw one that looked decent and wasn’t chunky I grabbed her. I saw one really plain looking gal with a decent body. Should have grabbed her because I bet she would have been a bargain and really worked it.
I would say half the street women were dead fish and just lied there with legs spread. Most would give head. A lot of the women once they got back to the room wanted more to give head. I picked up one cute blonde and asked how much and is that todo. She said yes but her todo was just taking off all her clothing and she didn’t give head.
Saw a lot of chicas that dressed up as school girls with visible thongs, which was pretty hot. Some wore way too much makeup and it was a turn off. Saw a few grannies but not a lot.
Saw lots of police all over the place. Every so often they would stop and grab someone off the street. I never saw them hassle any gringos. One time on a taxi ride back to the border my driver spoke English. As we were going along we came across three police cars that stopped and they stepped out all wearing black mask and had automatic weapons. The driver told me that violence was getting out of hand. One time when he was driving he saw a shoot out in front of him. He also told me that after dark do not walk back to the border. Sometimes there are robbers waiting in the dark shadows. One time at night I did walk from the border to the zone. I saw very few people walking and with the shadows on the cement buildings it looked very scary.
Spent some time in the Hong Kong club, which I thought was a waste.
Went into Adelitas and all I can say is oh my god. Everyone must go there at least once. The daytime is ok but at night it is incredible. There are some silicone sisters but wow the place is filled with lookers. Most of them don’t paw at you and you can joke around with them and the prices of the drinks are not bad.
I also want to try a massage place that gives a decent massage before the fun. Hopefully one of you guys can recommend a place.
I saw it posted elsewhere, but VivaMex on Revolucion is a good real massage place. Not sure if there are any extras (never seen or asked), but they give US quality massages for $25 for 45 min.
They also offer $35 for 1hr, but technically that's more expensive, so I've always opted for the 45 mins. Guess I'm a cheap bastard.

Pool Halls?
Does anyone know of a good pool/bar hall close to the zona? Might be a good pre-zona stop for me sometimes. Thanks.

Thanx! I'll give it a try. Of course, with my luck, that'd be the day they decide to enforce the law, and make an example of some schmuck sex tourist! ;-)

What I found...
I found this information on the US Department of States website...
http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html#compliant_document
and here's information from the Homeland Security website...
http://www.dhs.gov/xnews/releases/pr_1182350422171.shtm
It looks like after Jan 31st of 2008 that you can use your drivers license but you will also have to have proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate with you. I hope this information is helpful!!!

Pueblo Amigo
Has anyone stayed at the Pueblo Amigo Hotel in TJ. If so, can you tell me what the rates are? Also, has anybody been to the club directly next door to the Pueblo Amigo? It is supposed to have the hottest ladies in TJ. Any info would be helpful.

We just posted a little discussion about Pueblo Amigo on this same thread around 12/30/07. There are two web links: 1.) the hotel website 2.) expedia, which has current rates.

From the lobby area it looks very much like a US styled hotel. Layout reminded me of an Embassy Suites lobby but not as nice.
As for the place next door, if you're talking about Luxor (massage), it's ok. Compared to the likes of Purple Rain, Mermaids, etc I think they run a better business (options for 2 girls, cleaner jacuzzi, etc). But all of them are going to run you a lot more than what AB or CC are going to cost you. (Curiousity got the best of me ;) ).
Occassionally Luxor had a couple of hotties, and GFE was to be had if you happen to connect with one of them (if you do, take the option of showering with them off the clock). But you're still talking ~$40-55 to the house for 45-60 min and then whatever the girl charges. It's been a while, but I was charged $80 by my fav there during the afternoons which is slow, seems like the other places Purple Rain, etc either charge more or I got a discount (time of day, repeat business, etc). At the time, the cleanliness there (place and girls) appealed to me, as well the thought that these girls weren't busy so they'd only be seeing perhaps 2-3 guys a day (non-Fri/Sat). Now that was about 2 years ago, so slow business could have cut into the quantity/quality of girls, or for whatever reason there's a shift in their popularity and then there might be some good quality there now. I don't know. But if someone told you from a recent 1st hand experience then check it out if you're curious (just dont trust any cabbie!).
For me, it was always nice to have an option if I didn't find anything at AB during the day, to take a quick look over at Luxor for a nice last chance before walking over to the border. Btw, Pueblo Amigo is close enough to walk to the border (7-8 min from the normal taxi drop off) if you want to save yourself a little cab fare. From AB to Pueblo Amigo/Luxor should only cost you $5.

One thing a border guard said to me that was interesting. In talking about the vagueness of the new requirements he said, "Legally there is nothing that can prevent a US citizen from re-entering his own country except for some criminal reason." So the gist I got from that guard is they might hassle you, delay you but at least he wouldn't keep you out of the country.
Remember, if you know your rights things will go a lot smoother.
Besides worse to worse, the passport requirement for sea entry won't go into effect until 2009. You could always hit La Playa and swim for it! ;)

report 1368 and 1369
are the two reports Star. The place next door did have some pretty girls outside whenever I wandered by but my buddy and I never went in. We asked the guys in the hotel about it the night before we left and they said it was ok. These guys were pretty cool and looked out for us the few days we were there. I think they were genuine in their opinion and by no means "pressured" us to go. I'm going to TJ next Thursday and was going to try to stop in and check it out so I can tell my buddy about it. If I go I will be sure to post something.

Nice places to eat
CJ or anyone else,
Do you guys know of some good restaurants in TJ? Perhaps upscale (by TJ standards) or with good ambiance. I heard Ochoa is pretty good and it has a piano bar, but it was closed when I went over there. I drove over to La Playa, and at least the street closest to the beach was kind of a dump (by US standards). Someone needs to built a Cheescake Factory there. Some of the apartments has signs for some cheap rent though.
