I always use a Wachovia debit card, which uses the Plus network, at various ATMs in Colombia, including Bancolombia (in the Bogota Airport) and several Citibank locations in Medellin. At Bancolombia I am able able to pull $700k pesos and Citibank $800k. These transactions always yield about $600k in $50k bills and the rest in $20k and $10k bills. Wachovia fucks me on the fees, but significantly less than what Bank of America charges. Overall, it is still much better than the rate available to charge cash dollars.

In South America look for: Banelco - Banred - Conexus - GlobalNet - Link - Redbanc - Suiche 7B - Telebanco - Unicard

I agree FLA fun, I have a card on the cirrus network it is 10X better than PLUS in latin america.

Also, the plus card CAN NOT be used at citibank or Bancolombia, otherwise availability would be a non issue.

Just go to this link and look for banks that say plus (not just visa..) next to them:

If you have a debit card such as the guy with the Wachovia account, it is also on the visa network which is much more extensive than plus, which is why it works at many other institutions.

The problem with the capone account is that it is a savings account, not a debit card, and will not work on the visa network or for point of sale transactions. It will only work at plus atm's which are mainly more obscure tier 2 banks (and rare outside of major colombian cities).

Your best bet is a low fee cirrus atm card or visa/mc debit card. Also though, keep in mind with debit cards, if they are stolen you could have a much bigger problem as they do not require a pin for non cash transactions.

Unfortunately, you need to be there when they are open or get lucky when the cleaning crew is there. I was able to get 300,000 per transaction. I was able to do three transactions in one day.

Does anyone remeber Col Bog? He was a regullar poster on this forum in Colombia, and he seems to have just dissapered! I hope hes ok. Col Bog if your out there, just pop in and say hello

Methinks Bogota is the place for that. Been to both Cartagena and Medellin and both are skimpy on such services, mainly because they're not really needed that much. Probably Cali the same. Many alternatives such as casas, independents, etc.
