When I was a student, I roughed it. I had long vacations and needed to stretch the money. BKK, fan rooms, crowded local buses, cheap women......the damn Khao San road guest house wouldn't let me bring a wench into my room.

I'm really having a hard time understanding how one mans money has anything to do with anothers. I understand how someone spending alot for a girl seems like its ruining it for others but how many of you really take into consideration the guy before you spending all that money? You don't! Example: Honda's are everywhere but I bet everyone didn't pay the same price for the same exact car. No way you can make every dealer or seller sell that car for the same price. This isn't the 99 cent store where every item is the same price! Just the guys pay what they wanna pay. They will eventually learn they can get it for less. Hell, we all know the human mind. When you have a lot of money, we don't think about the cost we just know we can afford it no matter what. But when you're short on funds, that's when the "cheap charlie" comes out in you. LOL.

Guys, just have fun and enjoy the ladies, the overspending point is moot, you will never be able to control others spending habits.

I also started paying as I go several trips ago and have found I seem to spend far less on my bar hops now. Ringside in Makati is notorious for padding the bill but I'm sure many more try and get away with it nightly. Especially when the customer has already had a few drinks and not paying close attention. I'm sure I've been taken advantage of more than once.

Next time try barhopping over in Ermita near LA Cafe. There are several GRO bars in the area too. Personally I don't like the LA Cafe scene too much but the GRO bar just across the street (Stringfellows is the name I think) had over 100 girls working there on my last visit and the BF was only P1,000.

A wry smile crossed my lips when reading all those comments on the effects of inflation caused by our recent visitor from Hong Kong. Congratulations to Rick for having a good time and enjoying the time enough to pass on his comments to the forum.

So enough carping and harping which seems to affect most forums - there are girls out there who are charging a lot more than the figures he mentions and regularly enjoying the company of those much richer than the average punter. They are also rarely mentioned on these pages as most would be too shy to admit spending that amount. I was in Makati last year around april. forgot the place name where it's near Ayala mall, it's a hotel (no name), and it's sandwhiched between some bar and restaurants. the aquarium have about 15-20girls inside, and it's very near the ayala mall as I stayed in the Peninsula Hotel. A friend of mine is going next week, but I forgot the place name, especially the road. anyone know the place or have any suggestion for somewhere near by for a quickie (paid of course)

I arrived in Makati around 9 PM. Had to do some email and stuff so I could only get out by 10 PM. On top of that I had a very early meeting the next morning, so had to be (alone) in bed by one latest. I always stay in the Mandarin as it is very close to Burgos and I never had any hassle bringing girls in.

Honestly, I couldn't quite figure out if the police were angling me for money, but in the end we all agreed that it would be best not to make a formal report, because her cross complaint that I was engaging her services would be a hassle to deal with. Yes, I wanted to get her punished, but not if I had to call my attorney at 1 in the morning to sort this thing out. They assured me that she would spend the night in jail. And he also told me that they gave her a good whack. I mentioned that I would pay for their "investigative time", they said ok. I offered a 1, 000P, and they just said up to me. If they were angling for money, they could have easily gotten more out of me, but that did not seem to be the case. That is a really good thing, because it would be scary to think that by calling the police to report a crime, I would have to pay them money to avoid having charges filed against me. Fortunately, the police are corrupt, but they aren't that bad. Anyway, I exchanged cell numbers with the sergent who told me just to call him directly if I had a problem in Makati, and he would take care of me. Also, it was important to let this bakla know she picked the wrong dude to fuck with. I won't go into the details about what she went through, but she was certainly crying, very stressed out, and said, with tears streaming down her eyes "yes, everything is ok for you but how about me". Now, maybe I am a hartless SOB, but that wasn't enough. Not only had she forced her way into my car and stole my wallet, but she made up this story, causing me problems. So I explained to the officer that it would really make me feal good to see her whacked with the batton. And they obliged! Really a trip whatching the police whack someone at my command. I LOVE the Philippines.

So, I never got the 2, 000P that she stole from me (it disappeared, but I am quite sure she didn't get it), so I was out a total of 3, 000P, but I am quite happey with the deal. She certainly didn't get away with it, and I got the cell number of local policeman that I am quite sure will take care of any problem I might have for the right amount of money.

So the advice I can give you guys.

1) Don't be afraid to call the police, but keep in mind, justice out here cost's money. As long as you pay, you will get the best justice in the world that money can buy.

2) Don't carry too much money in your wallet. It is not unusual for me to have 20, 000P on me, but luckily today was not one of them. In the future, I will not carry more than I need.

3) If you have a car, be carefull of your surroundings before getting in. Open the door with the key to avoid opening all the doors with the remote.

4) If you sense that you are going to get into a struggle with someone, protect your wallet.

Also, I have been living out here 2 1/2 years and go the various red light districts (burgoss, EDSA complex, Malate/Ermita, and even the relatively rough airport district) quite regularly. This is the first problem I have ever had. So, don't think that this place is dangerous, because this type of story is not common.

I've seen the Baklas on Burgos many times myself and always try my best to avoid them for reasons other than you mentioned. Having had such success at LA Cafe and G Point Manila (reports to be filed separately), I thought 'why not go across to Makati?'

So at 2130 on a Sunday night, I hopped into a taxi in Ermita and 75 pesos and 25 minutes later, asked the driver to pull up at a Makati set of traffic lights.

The only other person around was a lone female, Chris, aged about 25 though she said 21. I got out, asked her where Havana was and she took my arm and led me there.

Once there, we each had a fruit shake (215 pesos each): she then said 'US$20 for a short time' so I agreed to take her back to my Ermita hotel. In the car, she was affectionate.

In the room, her demeanour changed. She took off her bra and demanded P1000 up front, saying 'in Makati we get paid first.' She then said 'I can give you BJ for P1000.' I said that wasn't what we had discussed: she then said she had a brother who was a policeman in Makati.

I then said 'it's time for you to leave' and asked her for at least P500 back, which she refused to give me. I then escorted her into a taxi: while waiting, she said 'you hit me' (which of course I had not).

I got angry, and told her it was all 'bula bula' but she said I had 'wasted her time' and that she could have made far more than P1000 in the two hours all this had taken.

I was shaken and had to go out for a drink to calm down, scared that the police might burst into my room. Of course they didn't!

Why are some of us seasoned travellers occasionally so guillible? I cannot even offer the excuse 'I was inebriated' because I wasn't!

Needless to say, Makati and Club Havana no longer feature on my list of 'must dos'.
