Best bet is taking a little trip to Seoul. It will only take about 1hour to 1hour and a half by taxi or Airport Express bus.

However if you are going to stay near the Airport. There is this small town nearest to the airport only takes about 5-10min. You will also need to a taxi. just tell the driver to goto Airport town(or Gonghang City).

Not Much happening in Icheon, The Hyatt hotel close by the Airport is really nice. While I was there one of the Bellman took me out to the local town. It would be helpful if you posted a link to an article as a reference. Without any documentation of such a report, this is all speculation at best.

Having said that, I don't remember coming across anything specifically about the RLDs being shut down. However, I'll be the first to admit that I haven't really being paying that much attention to Korean politics.

Given the recent turmoil in the poltiical scene in Korea, I think it is unlikely anything will happen in the near future. Perhaps that is just wishful thinking on my part.

The Office of the Prime Minister announced these and other measures to combat the sex trade Wednesday, proclaiming its determination that it would no longer tolerate the trafficking in women's bodies.

"The government will enact a special law next year to provide the legal ground for the closure of brothels and begin to shut down 69 red-light districts across the country in phases from 2007, starting with those in juvenile-protection and residential areas," said Gender Equality Minister Chi Eun-hee.

The government will step up its administrative supervision on entertainment businesses to prevent prostitution and seize entire earnings of business owners who are found to have arranged these illegal transactions.

In addition, counseling centers will be established near red-light districts to help women who are forced into prostitution and to provide expanded legal assistance.

To prevent trade in juvenile prostitution, the government also plans to revise a law and publicly identify those who hire minors and force them to work as prostitutes.

Having read the articles now, I have to say that although I'm concerned about the possibility of this actually happening, I still think that we in the hobby will have to take a wait and see attitude.

First of all, the start of this proposed shut down isn't until 2007. That's a long way off, with a national election between now and then. It's entirely possible that this is pre-election propaganda and won't amount to anything substantial.

Secondly, given the sheer volume of corruption still present in the Korean government, I'd be surprised if the RLD industry didn't have some influence over some parliament members. Even if this is a serious effort by certain cabinet members, it may not get anywhere.

Finally, even if they actually get to the point where shut downs start to happen, I believe that the RLD industry is fueled by enough demand that it will simply go underground in some form or another. And I really don't think that the Korean LE have enough resources to actively pursue everything.

Again, all this might just be wishful thinking on my part... Maybe I'll just have to schedule more trips to Korea between now and 2007.
