I was back in the zona this afternoon. The border wait for pedestrians getting INTO Mexico was a half hour in the early afternoon, and the street girl choice was incredibly sparse. Then moved to NCal and though my one way drive is 500 miles to the border, I still used to make trips at least once a months. I have many miles on my car, majority from trips to Tijuana. Then with work and other factors, my trips decreased and now about every 3 months or if I need dental needs. Also, I myself do not like to make the long trip in the cold weather.
Tijuana is real cheap as the chicas are not good at math and think 300 pesos is more than a single bill of USD 20.00! [/QUOTE]As someone who IS in Tijuana on at least a weekly basis, I have some observations about this, because I had taken a several year hiatus from Tijuana before re-discovering it in the middle of 2016:
For starters, the place is very much demonized in the San Diego media. We get all of the horror stories about widespread violent crime and rampant drug use and disease, but very little about the lower costs of most things. One of these is the cost of prescription meds. Something I USED to come over for, prior to Obamacare, but no longer had to once the Affordable Care Act significantly improved that situation for me personally.
Second, the border wait has been pretty bad ever since 9/11, and that situation has only recently improved with various workarounds like Sentry / Global Entry, and the addition of more crossing lanes via PedWest.
For me, the two main reasons that I had stopped coming over were the fact that the border wait was pretty damn bad, at just about any time of day, and the fact that I no longer needed to get prescriptions there took away my LEGITIMATE excuse for going over, which I could tell people without any stigma. The third reason was that, when the USA economy crapped out at the end of the Bush Presidency, the economics changed. The price of a decent hooker in San Diego had been $200 or more for a short time session, the economy drove that down to $100-140 for a half hour, with some not too bad providers offering $60-80 quickies. When I could get a reliable quickie in the USA For $80, I no longer had any incentive to deal with the border wait, especially when, at 13-14 pesos to the dollar, I was still paying $40-50 for a comparable shag in Tijuana, plus having to spend more money on gas and parking and cabs, plus killing an hour or more waiting to cross back to the USA, It simply wasn't worth the effort.
Now that Trump and Mexican government ineptitude has cratered the Peso to 20+ to a dollar, and the USA economy has improved, the economics are significantly more favorable for a Tijuana excursion. In the last year, I've seen the cost of a basic shag in the USA go UP from $60-80 to $80 minimum, more typically $100-120, even $140 minimum for a half hour GFE session on our side of the border. While at the same time, I can get that same quality in Tijuana for $12-15 for a basic quickie, and $30-40 for a half hour GFE quality session. And while the economics of fucking putas in Tijuana was improving, the border wait and the price of gas here in the USA was also improving. Nowadays, I can manage and time my trips so that I know that my combined border wait in both directions will be no more than a half hour, and I can get a GFE shag for under $40 and a quickie shag for under $15. All of that is very different from the way it was 3-5 years ago. And I would venture to guess that the VAST majority of men in Southern California don't even know about that, because there is no visibility to it in the San Diego media - just the drug violence.
My 2 cents is that the price of girls could even be 5 bucks but word has gotten around that the cops will jack you up if they have a chance.
A high possibility of getting assaults and robbed could be a factor too.
I think in Tijuana risking it for the reward of sex is a no-go for many Americans.

There were plenty idle taxis around La Zona late night Friday, may be 4 to 5 drivers for every potential customer.
With gas in shortage and price hike by 20%, the worst that could happen would be a 20% increase in fares in near future. Don't know long term. It could get worse because presently there are riots in Baja Sud due to shortage. Riots could be in Tijuana next.
Just get a clear agreement with the drivers, exactly where to go for how much, $5 / 50 pesos or $6 / 60 pesos (assuming cabbies are not smarter than their street girl friends), so no one feels cheated after the deal is done.

I'm going down to Mazatlan for a weekend soon. Going to park my car at the airport. Has anyone taken a cab to HK from the airport? Approx pesos?
The distance is about 7 to 10 miles. Normal cab fare may be around $20.
Check with old Diego, the blue cab driver who parks in front of bar Gloria. He speaks English. He and his other cabbie friends had taken my pilot friend to the Otay Mesa border crossing for $10 in a special deal.
Tijuana airport is nearer and easier, so negotiate with him.
The narrow road from La Zona to the Otay mesa border crossing goes through Zona Rio and some of the harshest barrios on the East side. Some stretches of the road are narrow, helter skelter rocky road high on edges of the mesa, looking down to the valley a few hundred feet below without guard rails. Drink and drive at night on that road is purely suicidal.
