i have a ton of questions about heading out to a. c. as a possibility to living there. i've mongered many times in costa rica and colombia (and lived there a bit as well) and now in thailand at the moment. i've always wanted to check out a. c, and while i understand that it is a big grungy there, i do see some expats living there. i love athletic girl types. like fitness competitor types, or the gymnast body hard body.

i have been emailing back and forth a poster in another expat forum (and he used to post at the h. a. forums too) and we got into a good email discussion on living in bangkok vs angeles city or basically thailand vs philippines. what is cool is that he likes the same girls that i like. i might head on over to angeles city in about two months from now and check it out.

i took much of his answers from his email and did a tiny bit of editing. with his permission (though he is not interesting in being a member here) i want to post this.

i asked him basically.

1. where is it cheaper to live?

2. is it hard to find athletic type girls, like having some muscle on their lower body, thick strong legs with a nice ass but with no bellies?

3. how are non pros vs pros.

4. is it easy to find a cheap place to live that is furnished (small studio) with ac that is less than $200 a month. he didn't go into this though.

i don't look at thailand vs philippines as to see which one is better. i see them what is the best possible option depending on circumstance.

for me it was the actual cost of living and my sex addiction that chose angeles over say bkk. yes, i am a sex addict at the age of 50.

this does not mean angeles city is better to live than bkk.

i tell my friends to live in bkk due to better infrastructure, cleaner streets, better food, safety, daily activities, etc. this is with the assumption you are pulling at least a grand per month in us dollars.

right now my income is roughly between $400 as a low to $650-$700 as a high. trying to live in bkk on $500-$550 / month is rather difficult.

throw in the factor for my sex addiction and it makes things that much harder.

i have heard people living on $600 a month in bkk but they are barely making it. i tried it and while i had a decent studio with aircon, food was pretty good, it was just no fun trying. i'm not even including the ridiculous visa runs which adds up the expense overall than say a. c.

in angeles city it's pretty easy to get by with $600 a month and have sex a few times a week with attractive girls. once you live in a. c. you know where to find the cheaper bar girls and have the patience to scope the beauties. also girls in a. c. aren't as sexually repressive as they are in many places in thailand and even bkk. obviously you can get a non-pro in bkk but the effort is much higher than a. c. i've had sex with many non-pros over the past couple years in a. c. when i was living in bkk, i did manage to get with a few non-pros but nowhere near the rate as a. c.

bkk has awesome shopping malls. just walking around for exercise and grabbing a smoothie is fun while scoping out thai girls.

i have adjusted to the seedy and ragginess of a. c. in other words, even though it look kinda ugly in general in comparison to many places in the world, i have gotten used to that and is now ingrained as just another day in reality. it does not bother me at all. as for food in a. c, once you live here for awhile, you know where to go for healthier options. there are bbq grills rep001tered around that grill seafood-chicken or whatever for you. go shopping and prepare your own meals.

i[/quote]i like this post. i however do think $600. 00 us a month is a bit low to get along well in ac. i do think its possible if you live like a extreme cheap charlie which i am not sure i could do. this is a bare bone budget imo but it does let me have confidence that i could consider a move there for the $1000. 00 pension i have just received. my worry is i will not afford the comforts of life i don; t think i can live without which include a high maintenance of personal hygiene. got to have hot water ac and a clean place to stay. i also can't see me not having nice clothes to wear and looking like the slobs that walk around ac at times with their flip flops and wife beaters and looking like they have not taking a shower for weeks. dude your feet look like a cow hove get you some socks and some shoes and cover them up. ha ha ha!

$600 (24, 000pp) a month in AC? That would be tough, not impossible. You can rent a shit hole apt for as little as 2000pp, but it'd be 3rd world to the max.

A more reasonable price would be 7 8000pp and another 1500 2000 on top for water / electricity / internet / Cable TV. This price should get you hot water as well.

You would more than likely live out towards perimeter / Don juico ave (same street really) and would be a 10 minute jeep ride from fields or the SM shopping mall. If you want to be a cheap charlie, then 8pp jeepneys are for you. Living near a jeep route will save you $$. They run all night and day too. Trikes from fields to most places are 50 70pp if you are an experienced haggler. 100pp if you are not. And as much 200pp from fields to SM if you are Korean.

OK, so lets say you've now spent 9000 10, 000 on you pad. That leaves you with around 14, 000 15, 000 left. On fields a barfine or EWR or whatever its called these days goes for basically 2000pp so you'll very rarely be doing that! Out on perimeter the barfines are less, say 1500, but still pricey if you want to have action daily. You can short time on A-santos (blow row) with dingy room provided, for around 700 800. Same price for short time places behind Orchid Inn. At least at these places you don't have to buy a beer or buy one for the ladies. So let's say 800 a session. 10 sessions a month. You now have 7000 left to eat etc. That's 233pp a day! That will buy you the absolute bare minimum at the supermarket. Most bars charge 110pp now (125pp if you are at a dollhouse group bar!) so not much go-go drinking for you! And you will also need to buy load for your phone!

You can get street girls for 500pp, and you are by all means welcome to them! I wouldn't touch their dirty street asses! They hang out on A-Santos street just past Orchid resort 24/7. Although at night there are also ladyboys, if thats your thang!

And you are right, there is nothing to do (especially if you have no money!) No beach. There is plenty of golf, but not on your budget. Movies are cheap 70pp. A water-park, hooker bars, a shopping mall, hooker bars, no beach, hooker bars. You get the picture. Subic isn't too far away, but the beach is crap and the bars are. Well, in the end not too much difference from AC.

Bottom line is $600 for a sex addict is only enough for a spartan existence in AC.

Yes, a person can indeed live in AC on $600. 00 s month but that's more of an existence thing rather than having even somewhat of a life. You can stay up to 16 months renewing it as the schedule dictates. One of the renewals (either the second or third) is more expensive because you'll be issued the Alien Certificate of Registration, an ID. I recall this renewal being a bit north of p7000. The government website breaks down the renewal fees.

Another cost to consider is healthcare. I've long used Cigna International and it isn't cheap. You may chose to opt out of insurance, but if you require treatment you'll have to pay upfront. Need another test? Pay first. Yada yada. Your hospital visit may include numerous trips to the ATM and then the cashier. Meds are expensive, even if you have the flu, which I've picked up several times due to too much spit swapping.

Goyer, one rule I've always followed is to spend no more than 1/4 of my income on housing. Since your "income" is $600, or approx. P25, 800 at 43:1, you may not want to spend no more than p6300 per month on rent. And you'll be especially sensitive to FX risk.
