Don't worry. The situation in Copa has not worsen.
There are still homeless people sleeping on the street, streetrats and occasionally arrastões. However Rio is much safer than it used to be a few years ago. Not to mention how the situation was 10 or 20 years ago. The main violence happens in Zona Norte. In Zona Sul you're quite safe as long as you use common sense. If somebody wants a 100% safe destination, don't choose Brazil.

Btw, it would be nice with more reports. All the guys with endless questions here never seems to report back.

I like to share information. I have been more than 20 countries and safety issues usually exegerating in most I was feeling safe since Istanbul is far being perfectly safe.
