Ho Chi Minh City - General Info

The poolice have been giving the bars around Hai Bai Trung a hard time over the last few days - checking the girls for their permit to work in Saigon.

On Sunday night at 10 pm most of the HBT bars were shut or had one or two girls in overcoats. There were groups of girls in their overcoats roaming the side streets trying to get back to their bars without encountering the poolice.

Last night I even saw the poolice checking papers in the Red Hot Chile bar which is a quiet drinking spot with girls in Aoi Dai but no takeout.

One of the mamasans tells me that this will probably go on for another week or so as they ''clean the place up'' for the Mayday celebrations.

Apparently U2 bar just moved, it's now around the corner on Dong Khoi street, not far from where it was up until a few nights ago. I was there on what they told me was its last night operating in that spot, that they'd move around the corner the next day. So I think it's at 28 Dong Khoi now, or thereabout.

Perhaps their new premises will see a return to the old U2 action.

There is another little bar on Dong Khoi opposite the Grand Hotel, calling itself the Hard Rock. Down an alley and upstairs. Grim little place with grim women!

I was in transit overnight at HCM after came back from business trip in Vung Tau. I stayed at the Sheraton Hotel. I checked into hotel and then went out to Four Season for dinner. I was wandering back to hotel and pass Bar 51 on HBT and found myself dragged in!!! I walked on. The bar I finally sat down in just a couple of doors away was pushy as well - I decided to go in for a beer. An old (3 on my scale) sat next to me and I told her I wasn't interested. The next girl said nothing whatsoever to me except 'you buy me one drink now?’ I kept just replying 'no' and finally she left. However another girl serving behind the bar was young and cute. Been there done there! There's this one cafe om place called Thien Thai on Lac Long Quan st. just east of Au Co st. in Dist Tan Binh/Dist. 11. There are lots of hot looking girls there. 10k for the drink, & 30-50k for the girls. You can touch them & grope them. If you want anything more than that, you would have to come back a couple more times, they would take you back to their apartments during their afternoon breaks or after work for a fee, of course. None of them speaks any English, I don't think. It's been over a year now so it might not be there anymore as cafe shops like that don't seem to last long. There are lots more places like that no westerners have ever frequented in other districts outside the touristy areas. I always feel that paying anything more than $50 for a ST is way too much in VN.

A very infrequent contributor here, (Tokyo and Chicago forums). Now doing regular trips to HCMC. Staying at Caravelle, had tried the Banana massage on offer at Jasmine Sauna, to the left of the Continental Hotel, paying $10 for the massage and overpaying $20 for the single pop with roaming hands. Did that couple of times the first day.

RTFF and took a trip round the block passing #91 etc to end up at Japanese sounding Spa near the Sheraton, (Sachi or Asahi, maybe) and went up the narrow stairs, cute cute girl, with older girl giving pretty good massage ($8 included the 20% off). When came time for the flip, I was more aggressive, asked for FS, hoping another 'secret room' would magically become available, and wouldnt budge from VND$400, 000 for FS. They haggled, I backed down from the FS and settled on VND$400k for two girl BBBJ taking turns, sucking nipples etc. Bonus: the older girl, who didn't want the BBBJ at first had bigger boobs, because she had a baby! (except I did hide a $100k in my shoe in case I get duped and need a cab home! ) The guy spoke pretty good English, and said he used to manage a Massage place, which he took me by to look. (He is 43, married for 3 yrs, and has a son on the way! )

The bike ride to the mini-hotel, still in Q1 takes about 8-10 minutes. The cost breaks down like this, VND$200k for the Hotel, VND$300k (USD$24! ) for the gorgeous 20yr old, who loves herself more than me**, but can't help but pop a couple of O's. (**my arse looked great in the mirror I thought. Hahah) and VND$50k for the driver. He said he would call as many girls as I needed to come in until I found the right one, but I gave him my specs, and he nailed it first time!

Since he was way too helpful, I slid him another VND$150k, on the basis that he help fellow mongers who call him. He said no probs, and now I have the cell number of Mr. H! I will definitely use him next trip, everyday I think, and am willing to share the digits with seasoned posters on this site via I/M. They can be the custodians of his details, to give to other mongers they trust or know better than me. I hope you'd follow my lead in giving him a $100k more at least. His earns it through his trust.

So, if you're lucky enough to have Sudsoz and Wendella's confidence, and they e-mail you the digits, tell Mr H. 'nihongobrit' told you to call. He stored that ID in his cell phone. He'll come and pick you up, take you there, wait and then drop you back. I hope you guys are okay with that?

Also, I will be back in June, so if any of you want to do some hunting in packs, let me know. I am usually the lone wolf, but know a fellow mongerer is never far away!

Thanks all for the super reports. I wonder if someone could explain in a little more detail for this newby what actually happens after the deal is struck? Are there things to watch out for in the cab, at the hotel desk, etc? Do they ask for your passport? What's the protocol? Etc. Are cops are concern for westerners? I feel more vulnerable after I get out of the bar, and I want to minimize the anxiety and enjoy the experience.

Your prayers have been answered. There's a strange little room upstairs, you kind of climb through a window-like hole in the wall to get in there, and it's a tiny little room with a couple of couches, lower than floor-level. Kind of a love cave. Not as private as it could (should) be. I believe a full range of services are offered in the Cave.

Bar 29 (the old U2 staff plus some new ones) is on Dong Khoi almost diagonally opposite the Grand Hotel and a few doors from Maxims Restaurant.

I did not go upstairs but I was told it was more bar area - no mention of special 'looms'.

I did not have a lot of time so I did a quick recce at Bar 29 and the new one on Hai Bai Trung.

At each I buy one beer and one lady drink so the bill is VND75000. Check out the ladies assets over the next ten minutes or so and when I walk out I leave the balance of a VND100,000 bill as a tip. In each case they all carry on like I am a cheap Charlie. This wingeing and whineing for tips really gets up my nose.
