Freelancers and In room safes
A quick warning about freelancers and in-room safes.
I had dinner last night with an "old friend" who does some freelancing on the side and has some freelancer friends.
She told me about one of her freelancer friends who I know from a couple of years ago.
Her freelancer friend was taught how to open the hotel safes and stole a lot from a client in ABC. She sold the guy's stuff and wasted the cash on drugs.
Easy to google how to open the safe and I watched a pretty good video on youtube showing how to do it.
Very easy to do with some simple tools. The in room safes are very weak.
Also I read on tripadvisor a lot of complaints from guys about stuff being taken from their room safe in AC hotels. Those guys were accusing the hotel staff.
I'm now padlocking the wardrobe door as a bit of additional security.
Cheers
Why Angeles and What to Do
Let me begin by saying that these are just my opinions, those of others may differ. My resume is as follows. Angeles 5x (coming again in April. Pun kind of intended) ; Manila / Makati 3x; Cebu 1x; Bangkok 2x; Pattaya 3x. So I get around. While I have plenty of good things to say about all the places I listed. I always wind up coming back to Angeles as my favorite locale to partake in female talent. Here's why:
First, there's no pretension about why you're there. If you're staying in AC near Fields you are looking to have sex with local girls. The hotel workers know it, the waiters and waitresses know it, the beggars on the street know it. Even the "good girls" who work at the mall or a call center know it. It's totally out in the open and you don't have to pretend you're "on business" or an eco-tourist looking to see waterfalls. I just booked my room at ABC and I emailed them to make sure that the bars would be open on Palm Sunday / Good Friday, etc. Here's the response I received. A direct cut and paste. "The bars are still open on the holy week Sir. So yes, the red light district will still have the lights on." How can you not love service like that? In Manila (especially in the nicer hotels in Makati) there are foreign travelers who are not looking to pillage the local talent. And some hotel workers will give you that knowing look / stare when they see you with a girl enough to be your daughter. It's accepted, but in that "we know what's going on but don't talk about it in public" sort of way. In AC the hotel staff will ask if you are OK if they see you come back to your room two nights in a row alone. Again. You have to love that.
Second, Everything in Angeles is located in close proximity. If you're in even moderately good shape you can walk everywhere. Fields, Perimeter, the Mall (that's kind of all there is). If you're tired, lazy, or it's hot. A trike will cost you maybe 100p (maybe less. I usually don't bother to negotiate as 100p means a lot more to them than it does to me).
Third, There are always pretty girls to be found. Yes, some will tell you that there are a lot of 4's. 5's and 6's in AC. And this is true. But there are always a couple of 8's or 9's in almost every bar at some point of time during the night. The volume of girls makes it almost impossible for you not to find what you are looking for. Just don't get too drunk too early.
Fourth, Almost all the girls speak enough English for you to have a basic but effective conversation with them. Some are actually quite skilled and make for excellent company (sadly they're usually not the 8's or 9's, but I'll take an enthusiastic 6 who doesn't describe herself as "simple" any day of the week)!
Now. On to what to do in Angeles. Sadly. During the day, the answer is not much. Your options are fairly limited. I don't play golf, but I hear that's available. If you stay at a hotel with a pool, a nice refreshing dip can hit the spot (if it's not raining). There are casinos and poker clubs. And you can always read a book or go to the mall and watch a movie. Perimeter bars open at around 2:00pm, so you can just slowly drink and chat with the ladies on any given afternoon (there are usually happy hour specials). Do not expect much culture or excellent food in AC. This is where Manila wins hands down. Ultimately you have to decide what you're looking to do and what is more important to you. I usually try to spend a few nights in Manila after going to AC. I find I appreciate the metropolitan nature of the city (which is a complete mad house by the way) once I've been in the country for a week or so.
